“Great!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2012

The hostel is good; the rooms are ok, and the courtyard is charming. The place is nice. Friendly staff and friendly people there too. Such well located, just 3 mins to Tian Men Square. They have computers with internet, good breakfast, and drinks. Next to a very lively hutong.

The hostel is located in the middle of the centre, just a couple of hundred meters away from the forbidden city. The hostel itself is great, especially the courtyard. You can eassily meet other travellers and every night is very nice to sit around, drinking some beers and just chat with everybody.
The owner is a very nice and helpfull man, that is why I find it really strange that his staff is completely the opposite. They hardly ever greet when you walk in (even if you greet them first there is often no reply). When you ask anything (from a map to the nearest ATM or for booking a tour) you can see they actually rather don't help. Eventually they do, but they don't give you a good feeling. So I hope the owner will kick there ..... And show them how you should treat paying customers.

All in all this was a nice place but it can be a great place in the future. Hopefully the owner realises this.

Great location- as others reviews say, close to Tiananmen sq., close to a main road with lots of places to shop and eat, and 5 min walk to the metro station (easiest way to travel around Beijing).

I stayed in a dorm room with 4 beds, mixed. Although i took it due to my limited budjet, it was really nice. Big beds, a personal light attached to the bed and lots of space under the bed to leave ur stuff.
The shared toilets are nice, suitable for backpackers (not so for a vecation-type of trip) with limited budget.

Free wifi, free & slow computers in the lobby. nice lounge with a tv (we watched there some dvd's). Nice and helpful staff (bad english but understandable).

If i'll get to travel Beijing again as a backpacker, i would definately stay there.
Enjoy ur trip!

Qianmen hostel is in the heart of beijing city, just 5 minutes south of Tianamen square (if that excites you????) and conveniently located within 5 minutes walking distance of the local Qianmen metro station. Better yet it is just off the main street in the area that goes off in the day and night full with restaurants and your glamourous brands such as zara's, H&M, Rolex etc. and if you have just arrived in the country... like us... and are struggling to find some chinese food to eat that isnt chickens feet or head there is a McDonald's just across the road.

to the hostel itself i spent 5 nights at Qianmen hostel paying 60 RMB (bit steep) with one other person in a 4 person dorm, the first room was nice and spacious with a couch in the room, reading light, powerpoint for every bed and writing table. however after spending two nights there the following morning we were on our way out for a day trip when before we could leave the hostel receptionists told us that we would have to move rooms before we could go out.... highly annoyed at this situation and trying to put up a fight they came to the conclusion that we could either move rooms or leave the hostel. the reason we had to move rooms was that they had 4 people coming to check in that day and needed our full room, so it came down to money as they would prefer to have 4 paying customers instead of 2, hence why they didnt mind to kick us out.

the new room we moved to was alot smaller, broken light and electrical socket, no couch yet still paying same price. the whole building felt like it was going to fall down, is very old. toilets are in the back corner of the building and is very annoying to get to with the boys only sink being out side the bathroom itself for the girls to use too alongside there 2 private ones.... shower was amazing, best in the whole of china. breakfast pancakes were very small and too overpriced, 15 for the smallest of crepes.

after having to move to a new room in a rush i left some belongings in the old room, when asking staff if it was in the room everyone kept telling me to ask another person and wouldn't even open the room to look for me... after 2 more days of asking they told me no one knew where these items were anymore, highly dissatisfied about the loss of MY items!

if i were to come to beijing again (which i wont) i wouldn't stay at this place again as i found the hostels ethos of money over loyal customers to be very very rude and would look around for another place

Room Tip: ask for dorm with a couch in it... is bigger and are very comfy to chill out on

Merely a 5 minute walk from Qienmen subway station, across from a McDonald's and right in the centre of a very happening shopping area - awesome! Myself and a friend stayed here for 5 nights through our stay in Beijing and found it to be a perfect hostel for us being centrally located and good value. We stayed in a 4-bed dorm room for 60 RMB each per night with both wifi and an extremely comfortable couch in the room.

The hostel had a nice communal courtyard, free computer access in the foyer and the staff were always very helpful with directions and answering all our questions. There is one communal toilet/bathroom/shower area that the entire hostel uses, which was clean and had 24hr hot water, however it was quite annoying having to walk to the toilets each time we needed to use them as our room was not on the ground floor. The only other negative thing that we found here was after our 2nd night, we were told we had to change dorm rooms as a group of four was checking in. We didn't really want to move dorms but were told anyway that "our options were either to move dorms or move out." Not the greatest service on their behalf but what can you do... They also offer a variety of breakfasts for 15-25 RMB, which was very convenient. A quick tip for anyone wanting the banana pancakes: they were quite tasty with honey, banana and chocolate but wasn't filling at all as you only get one pancake!

Anyway, overall we were happy with our stay at Qienmen Hostel and would definitely return if we head back to Beijing in the future. Thanks!

We stayed here for four nights. It is brilliantly located just south of the Forbidden City and is in walking distance from the underground station.
The service here is good, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the beers are cheap! The only criticism I have is that it is slightly overpriced for a hostel.
One word of advice: dont go to the great wall through an organised tour, go through public transport you will save a great deal of money. A good description of how to get there can be found in the Lonely Planet Travel Guide.

Great location, 2 minutes on foot from Tian An Men Square, has a bus stop at the door, opposite a Mac Donald (it can be handy, just to grab a coffee. At least you know how much it costs! I was asked 30 RMB (5 USD) at a terrible place at the corner!), near Dushalan Street and a huton full of great (popular) restaurants, travel agents, and in the middle of atmospheric hutongs.
The patio has a nice and friendly atmosphere, the ideal place to meet people and exchange information and opinions.
However, the hotel does NOT have great facilities. It is not spotlessly clean, the rooms are basic. Ours, B111, was on the ground floor (in China it is called the FIRST floor as in the US), givingin directly on the patio, had twin beds and the room has a partition in glass (only partially frosted) which has created the space for a toilet and a shower which have no doors, but just a curtain. You need to feel really comfortable with the person you share your room with.
The hostel has a kitchen, where you can have breakfast for around 25 RMB (4 USD) and coffee (10 RMB). In the night I had a pizza which was ok (around 40 RMB, 5.5 USD, if I am not wrong).
The staff is not always friendly, and not really prepared to help you with information. The best was a boy, whom I assume to be the boss, but I had no possibility to double check.
