This is a lovely old house in the heart of hutong, a few minutes from the metro station. Its decorated in traditional chinese style furnishing and lovely silk sheets. Lovely staff very friendly and helpfull. Good location to the main attractions.

I booked this hotel, as a result of TA recommendations. The positive, is staying in the Hutong, and the location is great, the staff at the front desk were great with recommendations. We stayed in December, which is a very cold in Beijing. The heater provided sufficient warmth, and I'm from Florida. Late at night they would keep it very warm, but early evening, it was not as warm, but "ok". The last night, the water heater did not work well, through the next morning. It wasn't freezing, but it was definitely not hot enough for a shower. This would not be totally unexpected from an older hotel, and the charm, makes up for some of the inconvenience. The other concern, were the comments/posts regarding the lack of taxis in the area. While we found taxis (not minibus) would take us to the hotel, the "alley" was so narrow, very difficult to maneuver, particularly when residents park their cars in the alley. However, locals somehow know how to handle, even the police cars drive down the alley. The alley is long, with the hotel in the middle, however, we felt safe walking the alley at night. Maybe if I was traveling alone, or two females, I would be concerned. Keep in mind this is a 3 star hotel, but it is very good. It's a great experience, particularly, as these hotels/alleys appear to be going away for new development.

Room Tip: Wedding room. Note, there are no elevators.

If you want a hotel with an authentic feel this is where to go.From arrival to departure the staff were brilliant, the food excellent, and the rooms spotless and warm.
Location good about 20 mins walk to forbidden city, or take taxis which are very cheap and save your legs.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

We stayed here for 4 nights on June 2013. Arriving at midday through the chaos that Beijing is - taxi turns into a Hutong (residential side streets) and you think "where are they taking me to!?". Only when you are let into the hotel do you understand what the fuss is all about. The hotel is built on a reconstructed traditional manor so it is full of gardens. I'm western and this was my second time in China. I didn't get it at first.

But slowly things start to make sense. Rooms are spacious and fitted with A/C. The place is dead quiet as if you were on a temple. Staff is always friendly and smiling. This is one of those places that grows on you.

Sure you can get a Hilton for the price. But it will be just another hotel. This has character - without being fake. We did get some bad smell from the drains coming into the room at one stage (still giving it 5*). Breakfast was very chinese (you can tell that they tried making it western-friendly but just didnt get anything right). I.e. they served olives right in the middle of the fruits. I think this helped me get the traditional chinese breakfast stuff that they offered - from dumplings to pastries.

Ask yourself this - do you want just another hotel or something to remember? If it is the latter come here. You'll be double happy! :-)

My wife & 2 kids stayed for 6 nights at this hotel. We simply could not have asked for a more friendly & helpful group of hotel staff members. They were truly fantastic. We booked 2 rooms which were both clean & tidy & a pleasure to stay in. Breakfast was excellent catering for us Aussies. And it was actually quite nice to speak with other western travellers staying at the hotel. It is a hidden secret that I recomend people travelling to this part of the world investigate. The narrow alley leading down to the hotel took a little getting used to. The hotel is centrally placed to local shops & the wonderful Beijing subway system that can get you effortlessly around the city. Well done Double Happiness!!

We stayed 3 nights at Double Happiness Hotel. This is in an excellent location and we could walk to places and also use the subway which is very close. We were also close to some great restaurants. The staff are excellent and take the time to attend to your needs, well over and above expectations. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breaksfast is a feast with so much to choose from. Highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights at this hotel and could not have asked for much more. We stayed in a honeymoon suite that we found spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning. We found the location to be one of the hidden gems that isn't mentioned too often. This hotel is located very close to the subway and on a quiet hutong.

We found the service to be exceptional
