“A taste of old china with a western touch”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

If you are looking for western style deluxe 4-5 star hotels, then don't book here. This hotel is located in a hutong, a dark street that is hardly large enough for a mid sized car and it is definitely not a deluxe hotel. It's more like a chinese family guest house that offers more ammenities than expected. The location is good and very close to the line 5 Dongsi metro station. We stayed here in February and it was very cold, so, it was very tough to have to wander in the open air freezing halls every time we had to commute between our room and other parts of the hotel. The rooms were very well heated, though. The chinese style deluxe double room we had (room 138) was quite tiny, but had everything we needed and a little more. There was a complimentary fruit basket with an apple, a mandarin and a pear on the first day, however, it wasn't refreshed after that. They also offer complimentary coffe and tea. The bathroom came with super clean towels, hair dryer, and ammenities such as, laundry detergent, tooth brushes, combs, soaps, razor and bath caps. The soap, shampoo and conditioner were contained in a dispenser in the shower. The shower was super good with plenty of strong and hot water. The bed was a little on the hard side, but still very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was not too big, but it offered chinese and western food that was very good. In the evenings they have a lady playing chinese melodies on the harp and also hold tea ceremonies for their guests. It's a fun experience and a challenge to traditional hotels.

I liked the hotel which was actually an old courtyard house changed in to a traditional hotel.
The staff was very friendly .The room was furnished in a traditional way .The breakfast was typical
Chinese , a real culinary experience.I enjoyed it .In the evening they had a cultural program :music and traditional tea tasting .The hotel has a very good cuisine for dinners .
I staid only one night but it was a real "Double Happiness" for me and for them.

Kindly note That I staid at the hotel on August 2012 but there is no such option .

Room Tip: If you want to avoid getting to your room with an umbrella through wet stairs ask for a ground flour...

I have had the opportunity to travel a lot and stay at many various hotels across the world and this place was one of the best experiences I have had to date. Hotel itself is not five star luxury but it is five star service all around. This little courtyard hotel is immaculately clean and comfortable. Staff are overly polite, friendly and always want to know how they can be of assistance.

Coming back to the hotel after a day of touring felt like I was coming home to family. This says a lot as I was only there for 3 nights. Staff showed genuine interest as to how my day was and if I found everything okay. It was nice to have these friends to come "home" to as I was traveling the city Solo.

Bed was very comfortable and room was always cleaned well. Room had amenities such as bed slippers and robe that you would expect in higher end hotels. Wifi worked well and the location was very convenient to metro and dining.

I must comment on breakfast as I am a picker eater and usually hate breakfast buffets in non-western countries. This place delivered, yes there was some odd choices but there were so many choices that you will certainly find something to eat and something you will enjoy.

EVERY single staff member we encountered provided excellent service! We arrived in Beijing and realised that no one spoke english very well and we found it hard to communicate. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by the lovely June and escorted to our room in the middle of the night. The staff at the hotel assisted every query we had and we were never disappointed with any of their suggestions. One was even nice enough to lend us her own bike for the night as the bikes they had were too tall! The hotel has an abundance of information about the do's and don't's of Beijing which we also found extremely helpful.
We stayed at several other hotels throughout China, Hong Kong and Macau and found that the service provided at The Double Happiness Courtyard Hotel was the best of the best!
Thank you!!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the courtyard as it is easily accessible and enjoyable.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The wedding room was lovely, beds were beautiful if a little small by western standards. The only disappointment was the bathroom, it was tiny and smelt damp. Breakfast was interesting, but always something you could eat. A lot of American and Australian guests. The hutongs were very interesting to walk around and seemed very safe. Metros easy and efficient to use. Saw all famous sights with the help of our experienced guide Lily. We had some amazing food and it was very cheap!

Great little hotel in an interesting location. Very friendly, helpful staff who speak excellent English. Rooms beautifully decorated in traditional style but with all modern facilities. Tea and coffee making facilities in room plus basket of nibbles and fruit. Easy walk to subway station and with choice of shops and eating options nearby.

What is it about this hotel tucked away in the non touristy hutongs?
For one, the office staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.
The room was chinese with satin bedding, a carved wooden bed and extras like canisters of tea. Dinner in the restaurant was very nice and we were treated to a traditional musician. Breakfast was also good.
This is a lovely little piece of traditional China in the middle of a huge city but unaffected by it.
I'll summarise it all as AMBIENCE, CHARMING AND GOOD VALUE WITH THE LITTLE EXTRAS.
Probably the best service we've had in China with English speaking staff.
