“Popular local restaurant ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and serves authentic Chinese quisine. We got a table outside. None of the staff speak any English but there are pictures and an English explanation in the menu making choosing pretty easy. We chose a lot of different dishes that were all decent but not great.

“Could have been better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

We stopped by to have dinner. This restaurant is really popular with the locals so be prepared to wait. The restaurant is not very friendly to foreigners if you don't speak Mandarin. It is not that anyone was rude, it is just very difficult to communicate with the servers and the staff.
We had several dishes and everything was ok, not great. There are definitely better places to eat in Beijing.

“Excellent Food Worth the Price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

If you are in the neighbourhood (Chaoyang District), definitely try to have a meal at this truly fine restaurant. As other yelpers have observed, the service is outstanding--I was really impressed, even though none of the staff at the time I was there knew English. What they did instead was to recruit someone who seemed to be their manager and who, with true humility and natural, well-humored patience, took the time to translate with me back-and-forth on his smartphone translator regarding my order requests. In fact, he and the staff seemed to enjoy it. The food is excellent--I had a whole fish with a garlic-black mushroom-chilli sauce; shaved asparagus, onion, and carrot dish; and blueberry juice. Total price, with 2 yuan for something like the plastic container and nice bag to take the food home (I didn't take tea), was 166 yuan (= abt 27.50 USD), which is expensive by Chinese standards, but a great deal by tourist standards. Add to all this the cool historical courtyard architecture, and you really ought to eat here if you can.

PS--The only reason I didn't select that this is one of the best meals I've ever had in a restaurant is because I was in a rush when I had dinner here. Had I taken the time to enjoy the setting and more of the fine food, I'm pretty sure it would have been one of the best. =)

“Awesome terrace and great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Booked a table for two 2 days ahead for 6 pm on a Sunday in June. Arrived to find there was no table inside the restaurant and was ushered to the terrace on the 1st floor instead. Was a bit apprehensive of possible heat and/or thunderstorms because there was no air-conditioning and no cover whatsoever. But it turned out to be a great place. Was airy while the inside was so crowded and stuffy. Couldn't congratulate myself more on this good fortune.

Food was tasty and inexpensive. The waitress was considerate enough to warn me that all the dishes I ordered were on the sweet side and they proved to be so.

Loved the place.
