Location: very convenient to MRT station and also walking distance to Wang Fu Jing street.
definitely a good choice with easy access to 2 MRT lines.

Culture: interesting little courtyard which is highly recommended for whoever want to travel and get a feel of Beijing HuTong.

Room: We've stayed in Room B as well as Room C for 4 nights, the rooms are not as nice as showing in the picture, but still it's comfortable and clean. the whole place only have 5 different rooms available, Room C,D E are relatively smaller/packed...

Comfort: it's not very comfortable to shower in either Room B and C, shower area is not well seperated if that's an issue for you as well.
Basic shower gel/shampoo, slippers, bathrobes provided in the room, it's warm and the bed in Room B is comfortable, while Room C is very small and not feel so nice.
There is one night the water from the shower is very small and not warm enough until maybe other people stayed in the other rooms finished shower it become normal...

Service: There was some mis-understanding happening about the price and room type confirmed. we've booked room A but have been put in room B without any notice.
If you've got breakfast included in the room rate, the owner actually go out and buy the food for you, I find it's very thoughtful and personal service, but if you are get used to routine hotel type of buffet breakfast, this is not what you would expect.
Young is very helpful and nice person.

Overall, it's not a fancy place but very interesting stay.

Room Tip: choose Room A or Room B (more spacious and well maintained)

My friend and I stayed here for five days this winter and were pleasantly surprised by our experience in this traditional courtyard house.

Here are some things we enjoyed about our stay:

1) CONVENIENCE - The location of this accommodation is superb. We had easy access to the main attractions. It is a three block walk (5 minutes) to the metro station. All of Beijing's attractions are within walking distance of the metro.

You can book activities, tours and transportation from the hotel. We were able to book a taxi to and from the airport through Freeman and Young, so we had no trouble locating the hotel. We were able to book a tour to the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall and a Chinese opera show through the hotel. By booking with Freeman and Young, you avoid the inconvenience of having to pay for each activity separately; you need only to pay for the activities upon your check-out.

There are also many restaurants, fast food establishments, ATMS and convenience stores within easy walking distance of the hotel.

2) CUSTOMERS SERVICE IS IMPECCABLE

Freeman and Young were very friendly and accommodating. If you have any requests or questions, you need only ask them. They happily pointed out directions for us and wrote directions in Mandarin for us so we can show it to taxi drivers. They greeted us with a smile whenever we arrived and left. Freeman and Young made us feel very at home and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

3) AUTHENTIC BEIJING

The accommodation is located in a traditional hutong, so you get an experience that you wouldn't get from a big chain hotel.

4) CLEAN, COMFORTABLE ROOM

The rooms are very comfortable, clean with ample space to relax.

__________

I cannot say enough good things about Emperor's Guard Station. We enjoyed our stay here immensely and will definitely stay here again if when we next visit Beijing.

First of all: do you want a VERY interersting view of living in a chinese hutong and a warmful sociological experience? This is the right place for you (as it was for us). Very different from the amount of the "same old stuff" hotels, this one is a pearl. It's inside a real hutong, and controlled with the strong, gentle and always competent hands of Bonnie and her staff. You'll be pleased, she knows everything about Beijing (and if she does't, she'll look for you, believe us). Nevertheless, there is a slight problem: even the taxi drivers get confused when trying to find the address. It's not difficult, but you have to know EXACTLY where it is, as it goes: lines 1 and 5 - Dongdan Subway station at DongDang Bei Dajie, in front of the Oriental Plaza Shopping mall on the opposite side of it, you'll find Xifenglou Hutong. Enter it and on the SECOND srteet, turn left and go on until the seafood resuant, on our left wo buildings after, and you're there! Secnd point: there are no photos of the hotel entrance, so, we've uploaded some of the exterior entrance, once the site's picture is the room's not the hotel's entrance. Then, don't be scared of the electric boiler at your side when you bathe: it's scary, but harmless. I agree: it's not comfortable to bathe side by side an electrical appliance, but... no harm. It wouldn't hurt either a wet mop under the bed and furniture. The allergic guests would thank to that. The rest of the room is clean, comfortable and clear. Definitely a must stay!

Room Tip: any room-it's a hutong!

I have stayed 3 nights and this small hotel lived to all the expectations. Young and Freeman are very helpful and friendly. They organized a taxi to pick us from the airport and arrange for some train tickets. We were receive with a smile every time and got really good suggestions on things to do and where to eat. If you are looking for great warm service this is the place to go.
The rooms are characterful, clean and comfortable. The location (in a hutong) is very central and surprisingly quiet. On the minus side the breakfast is not great but there are plenty of alternatives around.

My son and I stayed here for 4 nights. Freeman was a terrific and warm host. We liked being able to walk to Oriental Plaza (an upscale shopping mall) and the Grand Hyatt for a special and enormous breakfast. The location really is superb. It's in a hutong so it's an authentic Beijing experience too.
