This is a vary relaxed neighborhood, with nice cafes and restaurants, the Gust house is in a nice side street, room is vary big and nice, the staff is vary helpful and speaks good English.
the rooms are around a small and privet court yard, it is nice place to chill and have a bear, free drinking water and Wi Fi and Landry service....

Room Tip: we stayed in a room with a window to an ally, it was rather noisy at day time, at night it was fine.

Visited in August 2012, but TripAdvisor did not let me put it there. We first searched for the hotel for a good 20 minutes. After having found it though, we realized it was worth the effort. The host was very friendly and spoke fluent English. He gave us a map and sat down with us, marking out all the important places and answering the questions we had. The room was small but clean, though it was hard for me to get used to the bed as my feet dangled over the edge. The local area was lively and we had breakfast bought from stands and vendors on nearby street corners - tasty, authentic cuisine (the dumplings were 1-2 yuan when we visited). Overall a great experience, would definitely reccommend.

We stayed here last September and overall, the best thing about this small B&B courtyard inn is the owner/manager who is super friendly, kind and helpful. The 2nd thing is probably the location although we did not make full use of it as we only stayed for one nite. The small double room we had (which I hope is fixed by now) had a leak in one of the walls by the bed and so it stained walls and a musty smell, Additonally, the bathroom window had a gap even when fully close. the bathroom had a odd shower that is in same tiny area as the toilet. Lastly, I had difficulty sleeping because there was so much creaky noises (or leaks) during the nite. Sure the price is cheap but quite sure you can find better courtyard style stay for around the same price.

Enjoyed our 6 night stay with family in 3 of the 5 rooms-very relaxed and an intimate experience of Hutong living. The rooms were basic but clean and beds were comfy with own bathrooms. The location was excellent-2 min walk from Metro and next to police station-we felt so safe! Highlight was the was yummy breakfast and noodle stalls close by and we enjoyed sampling the wide range of dumplings, buns, Chinese porridge, pancakes on offer as ordered each morning and delivered by the helpful manager who is there 24/7. He even helped us order at a local noodle restaurant where there was no English spoken or written. We enjoyed wondering around the Old Neighbourhood and seeing the locals go about their own business-it was a lovely end to our 3 week stay in China. You cant get this at the 4 or 5 star hotels.

We really enjoyed the fact that we were staying in a quirky courtyard hotel in a Hutong. The location was ideal, close to the Metro and to the Forbidden City etc. Yang, the owner was really very attentive and helpful and always available to assist us. There were a table and chairs in the courtyard and it was nice to sit out and enjoy the sunshine.
Our room was small and cute, we liked the authentic Chinese décor. The WiFi was very good and the room was equipped with working AC and everything we needed.
We really didn't mind the fact that the furniture, doors etc were a bit shabby, that just added to the character of the place, but we did feel that it should have been cleaner, in fact, the cleanliness is the only thing which stops us giving this place a higher rating. To be fair, the bedding and the towels were clean enough but apart from that the room and the bathroom were a bit grubby.
In the bedroom just after we arrived we found a piece of toilet paper stuck to a pipe next to our bed. There were lots of cobwebs all around the edge of the ceiling and the dust was quite thick in places. We found some things down the side of the bed which other guests must have dropped. The bathroom floor looked very dirty around the edges and there was a strong smell of drains which was sometimes bad enough to come into the bedroom, even with the bathroom door closed. The bowl of the toilet was brown.
Other than these few issues it was a good place to stay. We don't like to be negative and we didn't want to leave a bad review as generally our stay here was fine, but these issues did spoil it a bit for us and it was a shame because it wouldn't take much effort from the cleaner to sort these problems out. I was tempted to go and buy some cleaning products and do it myself! If these problems could just be addressed then, from our point of view, this place would be ideal.
As far as value is concerned, Beijing is expensive and considering the location, this place was quite reasonable but we really do feel that for the price we paid, our room and bathroom should at least have been properly clean.
