“European Food in Beijing”
Review of Brasserie 1893

Brasserie 1893
Ranked #28 of 12,688 Restaurants in Beijing
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$50 - US$300
Description: Brasserie 1893 is all about candid chef-and-guest interaction, gastronomical indulgence and visual bliss. Combining the French term 'brasserie', for informal doing of high quality, and the year 1893, which marks the opening year of the first Waldorf Astoria in New York, Brasserie 1893 stands out as a perfect reflection of the trendsetting restaurant ran by the legendary Oscar Tschirky, maître d'hotel. Working for many years at Waldorf Astoria New York, this gourmet master is credited with the invention of Waldorf Salad and Eggs Benedict, both signature dishes of Brasserie 1893 in Beijing. The central focus of the restaurant is the show kitchen, which is installed with two exclusive Molteni stoves. Sip an exquisite glass of wine as you watch the chef grill your steak to perfection or prepare oysters.

“European Food in Beijing”
Reviewed 14 May 2017

Brasserie 1893 is located off the lobby in the Waldorf Astoria Beijing. We had a good lunch of lentil soup and veal with mushrooms. Scrupulous service. Open for B-L-D.

“Exceptional ”
Reviewed 1 May 2017 via mobile

We were staying at The hotel and having arrived early evening on a long flight wanted a quick meal so we decided upon then in house restaurant.

In many ways this idea was a mistake, as the ambiance, staff and food were so good we ended up having a long evening and ended up falling into bed.

The food is top quality, inventively cooked with excellent ingredients and portion size that for us meant only two courses, which was a shame as there looked to be some fine desserts.

In reality this is fine dinning at its best, and whilst this comes with a price tag, certainly a reasonable one.

“Food quality but pricy”
Reviewed 17 April 2017 via mobile

Very nice interior (restaurant is in the Waldorf Astoria hotel).

Nice menu card - we went for the 4-course menu.

The quality is nice/good, but we had higher expectations in advance.

Good experience in total, but when quality/price is added up, we will not return as there are too many other opportunities to explore, but certainly a very nice one-off visit.

“Great night out :)”
Reviewed 2 April 2017 via mobile

Definitely a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere with nice oldies playing at the background... for a moment, we forgot we were in China.

Service was warm, friendly but we were rather confused by the way the cutleries were set coz we weren't sure why the knives were set to the left.

So now! Let's get straight to business. We started with a delectable egg, asparagus and ham salad, followed by their award winning Jing Roll for starters.

Genius was the only word I could think of, especially when the Wagyu & mushrooms seamlessly melted into the creaminess of the sweet potatoes and herbed okra.

For mains I chose the lobster and scallop ravioli and hubs took the 250gm angus. Both were generously portioned and cooked to perfection.

We had a bit of disappointment with their potato gratin but they took it in their hands to prepare a sweet apology in the form of their signature Banoffee.

The chocolate soufflé fondant was lovely, but I would've loved a larger scoop of their light and superlicious vanilla sorbet to complement the well sized soufflé.

Price was extremely fair given the quality, creativity and service. We'll definitely be back to try the rest of their extensive menu. Thank you for the great night out :)
