By accident we happened upon this place. It is amazing. It is a performing arts center and museum all in one. It is just off/behind the main buildings on Tianamen Square. Wish we had had the chance to see a performance like a Peking Opera or one of the other Operas celebrating Chinese history. The art museum was top notch. This should be on a must-see list for Beijing attractions

If I had gone the performing artist route, this would be one of those ultimate venues to perform in. We didn’t really plan on taking a tour initially, but once I realized we could, the NPAC building seemed so massive that I just wanted to see how they used such a massive space. Within this “pearl on the water”, there’s an opera house, a symphonic concert stage, a proscenium theatre, a black box experimental theatre, several museum exhibits, a couple of cafes, a bar, a couple restaurants, an art gallery, and a few gift shops. We also got lucky to see a free performance on Saturday afternoon of a traditional folk ensemble playing in the atrium. Since it’s located right across from Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City- it’s also a nice way to stay cool in the heat of a summer afternoon while still seeing something unique in Beijing.

We saw this lit up at night time, it was just awesome to see. Worth a visit. Lots of people are out at night just strolling around this area. Did not feel unsafe at all. The water around it just adds to it at night with the lights.

I have not seen the inside, but from outside - it's huge (like many things in Beijing). Nicely build and modern piece of architecture.
