“Excellent hostel”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

Okay, the location is not the best in Chongqing. But you can go to all the important places easily by bus. But in all the other points this hostel is great! They helped me to find everything, arranged some nice trips, they offer nice food (try the beef pizza!) to reasonable prices and the rooms and hostel itself is very nice.

We stayed 2 nights in a double room. The hostel was easy to find, as we came off a cruise and it is right by the docks. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. It is clear the rooms and areas have been recently renovated. The staff was great. The food and drink was reasonably priced and tasty. However, the location for getting around CQ is not ideal. Since it is located by the docks, it is noisy early in the morning and really busy till the afternoon. There isn't really an easy path into the city by walking. There is a lot of construction nearby as they are expanding the metro. If you just need a place to chill, and don't care to go into the city, then this place is great. It's a great hostel, just unfortunately, not in the best location.

We stayed at this hostel for 3 nights at the start of october.
The hostel itself is very good but Chongqing as a whole is a building site and the hostel feels a little cut off from the parts of the city that have already been developed.
There is a bridge that is underconstruction next to the hostel at the moment but we found the noise not to be an issue. We have grown accustomed to sleeping with earplugs while traveling around and this certainly isnt the noisest place we have been to.
The big issue was getting to and from the metro there want a clear and easy way that we found to do this or one that felt safe enough to walk at night. We have visited many other chinese citys and love using the metro and have never had any issues walking around at night but due to the amount of semi-demolished buildings around it felt a little like running a guantlet from the metro to the hotel.

Overall we werent greatly impressed with Chongqing but if you are set on going there then this hostel is good but you might end up getting a taxi to and from the rest of the city.

i hate it when hostels rest on the laurels of being recommended by lonely planet. the subsequent steady stream of clientele gives them room to slack off, as is the case here.

pros:
- there's a view of the yangzte river from the lounge area.

cons:
- as people have said here, lots of construction/demolition going on immediately surrounding the hostel -- it's noisy, not too pretty, and really sketchy at night. you basically have to walk uphill through a labyrinth of abandoned tenement buildings that are in the process of being torn down. not safe for solo travelers, me thinks. i have no idea why LP recommended this place.
- food here is lousy and they charge Y5 for a piece of toast. seriously? i ordered dumplings here the first night and they were pretty lousy. probably frozen ones from carrefour.
- there are no restaurants or bars in the area so you have to eat here or take a cab into a more popular area. this hostel is in an industrial area, lots of loading docks, shipping going on.
- bathrooms stink, thank god for incense and mosquito coils.
- i stayed in the dorms which were totally average, if not, slightly below average. single rooms look nicer.

i stayed here for one night. i wanted to sleep in and do email the next day, when the staff rudely informed me that i'd have to move because i didn't have a reservation and a big tour group was coming in that night. would have been nice to have a bit of a warning the day before.

This hostel was perfectly adequate, nice enough bar/lounge area. The downside is the location, it is by a bridge that is in the process of construction (and apparently has been for years), so is a bit noisy. The area seems semi industrial. Also there are no shops nearby.

We did a tour to the Dazu caves with the hostel, the caves themselves were awesome and I'd highly recommend going to see them, but the tour was not very good at all. It catered mainly to domestic Chinese tourists and the guide basically ignored us except when she yelled at us. She made no attempt whatsoever to explain anything in English, though it was advertised as having an English-speaking guide. This meant that we had no idea what was going on. At the caves the group dispersed to wander separately, at which point the guide disappeared. Having no clue how long we were meant to be at the caves, we made our own way back to the bus and waited for half an hour before the rest of the group joined us. The bus then stopped off on the way back at a knife shop where we sat through a 20 minute demonstration of how sharp the knives were. No pressure to buy anything, but it was a bit strange. Then finally we were dropped at a random location in town, not at the hostel. Fortunately another tourist explained to the driver that we didn't know where we were, and he took us back eventually.

We told the hostel about this sub par tour experience and they were completely dismissive.

We stayed in ChongQing for a couple of nights and think this place was one of the best hostels we stayed in on our 7 month tour of Asia (South Korea, China, India and SE Asia).

We stayed in a 6 bed dorm which had excellent large bunk beds along each wall. None of your shaky metal pole bunks either; these were hardcore wooden efforts made with beams thick enough to build houses. If the person above you moved you'd barely even notice, although that didn't help much with snoring neighbours! Each bunk also had a full length curtain so you could literally cocoon yourself away from the world at night. The room had a good WiFi signal too.

The staff here were friendly, but one girl in particular was fantastic help and spoke excellent English. She helped us out with advice on travelling to Wanzhou and taking a local bus to a rural village which has stilted housing. When we left they even gave us as note of the hostel number and said that if we needed any assistance anywhere in China we should feel free to give them a call.

There is a cool bar / restaurant area at the front of the hostel which is a good place for meeting fellow travellers. Get a bottle of the local Chinese red wine from the bar: it's pretty good! We ate here a few times and food was quite acceptable and affordable to our backpacker budget.

The hostel is really well centrally located on the banks of the Yangtze river. We found it easy to reach from the nearest metro station because it was all downhill, but that made leaving ChongQing a bit harder going back uphill so I would suggest getting a cab. It's a pleasant 15mins walk to and from the city centre up some old narrow steps, through the backsteps of an old town area (if that has lasted, given the pace of redevelopment i.n the city). It's also well located for the riverfront tourist area and the cable car rides which cross the river (also worth doing to explore the other side a bit). Yes there was a huge bridge being built across the river, but that also made for an interesting site. Whether you like it or not, ChongQing is urban China regeneration / redevelopment in action.

We enjoyed our stay here and if we ever find ourselves in the city again we would consider staying here.

We came to airport at 8AM and we asked them come to pick-up us. The man was waiting and soon we were at the hostel. It paid in reception and was not very expensive, it is a long trip. We get the room straight away. The staff here speak good English (I think only people in the town!). If you let them know the place you want to go, they will write you address in china on a paper, so it is easy to show taxi driver or anybody else..
Room (we have 2pers private) was a little old, but comfortable. In the room was ac-device, very useful in the winter and summer too! And TV with China channels.
There is free wifi throughout the building, so it is nice to lie on the bed and use PC...But no Facebook and youtube is available in China? (or at least for normal users).
Downstairs is a very reasonably priced bar.
There are two computers for everyone to use, and there is free wifi throughout the building which is fast and reliable (though they switch it off from midnight!)
Maybe because it was New Year time, at the bridge was nobody working (noise?) at all, our luck? There are very long, narrow and dark steps to main roads, so better have a flashlight in evening. You can also walk over the riverside or throw the tunnel (nice if it is raining) and then to Hongya Cave and with a lift to 11th floor. We were here 4 nights and 1 night in 5star hotel, we liked this one!
