“A sample of everyday leisure activities.”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

The square is the governmental centre and is huge and surrounded by impressive buildings and characterised by a huge ornamental arch. Down on the square you get a taste of some everyday leisure activities - people practising calligraphy using gigantic brushes and water, ladies playing cards sitting under the trees wearing their smart silk pyjamas. The sellers carried their wares in baskets balanced on poles across their shoulders. An interesting place to wander around for an hour.

“Shopping Paradise”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

There are many shopping malls there (eg. KFC, McDonalds, Starbuck, Pizza Hut, New Zealand Ice cream). It has everything and more. Security is good too. There are police patrolling at night.

“Much better than it sounds and mind snapping antique bargains to be had.”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

This is a Must, must do! Also the 3 Gorges Museum which sports a terrific toilet. Very necessary if you've just had spicy Sichuan food.

Some great photo opps here! Walk around the square, it’s very refreshing. Watch the locals playing musical instruments and try some Chinese tea from the tea shop and chill out.

Located to one side of the square is the antique market. The lack of cashed up western tourists here means prices are very reasonable. You won’t get skinned! I offered 100 Yuan for a substantial bust of Mao and they snapped my hand off. Now that is terrific business! You’ll find some real old stuff there too that you won’t find at the tourist traps.

“Fascinating Square”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

A huge square, full of people, with lovely architecture surrounding it. The traditional Great Hall of the People is on one side, the ultra modern Three Gorges Museum (free, and well worth a visit) on the opposite side.
A great place for 'people watching.'
