“Superb rooms”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

Room I stayed in was wonderful, extermly large,so luxuriously decorated very tastefully, huge bed to sink into and very large bathroom.Dressing gown slippers.Tea coffee making mini bar , hairdryer safe flat screen TV etc. Only stayed one night and did not want to leave te room !!
Breakfast was good, though I have had more variety elsewhere, difficult to communicate with restaurant staff., could not believe Hotel had not invested in a toaster. Reception staff and concierge all very friendly and helpful. Supermarket under hotel and a great Bakery cake shop next door , Nearby underground housed a huge market area. Very good location would definately stay again.

Our stay at the Wanyou Conifer was reserved by my colleague in China. When we reached around 9.30 pm, we were informed at the check-in desk that our reservation had been cancelled since we hadn't reported by 5 pm - the cutoff time. With some persuasion and patience, we were able to get alternate rooms. The room I stayed in was spacious and had all amenities but would not be called luxuriant. The view from the room can be distracting since it faces a busy conduit to the riverside and the roads were lit up all through the night with bright beacons from highrises and vehicles. The facilities were clean and there was a good selection of food at breakfast. Language was a barrier but surmountable. There was a free Internet LAN connection in the room and Wi-Fi in the lobby. The rates are very reasonable. In perspective, hotels in China delight more often than disappoint. New infrastructure is commonplace. In this case, I was left with an ambivalent feeling.

I stayed at the Wanyou Conifer for a week in May 2013. Finding anyone to speak English is a problem (as it is everywhere in Chongqing), but those staff who can't speak English will always rush off to find the nearest staff member who does. Great buffet breakfast with bacon, pastries, chefs to cook you eggs to your liking plus Chinese breakfast dishes. Exit 4 from the Daping CRT Metro station is 20 meters from the Hotel entrance, and there is a super market (Parkson) entry 50m away from the Hotel entry (although there is no signage!).

The wired internet was great, worked when ever you had your key in the door slot. Room had a safe. The WiFi was a bit flakey in my room (the room WiFi is unsecure - no key needed), but I found it reliable in the foyer (reception give you the WiFi key for the foyer).

We ate in the buffet for dinner one night, and the Japanese restuarant inside the hotel had an iPad menu with pictures so we know what we were ordering (which we found to be always a problem outside the hotel).

I could adjust the temperature of my room to within 0.5 deg celcius, so I turned it down at night and up when during the day. The A/C stayed on when the room key was removed, which means no coming back to a hot room!

There is car horns all the time during the day, but it is Chongqing.

Some of the rooms are in need of a refresh, but my room on level 17 was fine.

Only stayed one night after arriving late from Xian. Just like any other large hotel in a large city. We were on 22nd floor but could still hear traffic noise. Rooms OK and clean. Sunlight streamed in room through bathroom window in the early morning - needs a shade. Breakfast OK - large selection. Internet available but cost 20rmb per hour. Great view from from Shy bar on 29th floor

We stayed at the Wanyou Conifer in Dec. 1999 and Dec. 2004 when we adopted both of our daughters. It was conveniently located next to a Parkson department store which has a grocery store in the lower floor making it very easy to shop for snacks and necessities. The hotel staff was very accomodating and there was a nice breakfast buffet included with our room.

I upgraded my room to executive room and it was a good deal. My room in the 9 th floor was large, stylish and very well equipped. Also a sky bar lounge included the price. Nice place to a have a drink in the evening! There is also some kind of laundry service included the price but I didn't use that.

This hotel is not located in the city center of CQ but actually that doesn't really matter because it only takes about 20 minutes to take a subway/subway to the city center and the hotel is closed to the subway station. Also the taxi to city is cheap but not faster than metro. On the other side of street is quite large Chinese supermarket.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They didn't speak perfect English (almost nobody does in that city) but they really tried their best to make their guests feel happy.

The breakfast was tasty mix of Asian and European food and I really don't understand why mr. "peterkar" criticized the breakfast? I also tried the buffet dinner in the evening and it was also very good.

This hotel is not super fine star palace but was good enough for me. I strongly recommend this hotel if you are looking for good value for money and you don't mind to live in the city center

Room Tip: Uppgrade to the executive level!

This is a perfectly adequate hotel, showing signs of age (and maybe, earthquake). It needs work: my closet had sliding doors, one of which came off its track on first use; the building stands on a very busy road which wouldn't matter if the small sliding window closed properly. It didn't. The bathroom had years of silicon sealant, peeling varnish on the door, and needed a clean behind the door. (In fairness, everything worked).
On the plus side, the room otherwise seemed clean, and was better than adequate for one person. Further, the hotel stands on a metro station. Based on the activity I witnessed, it's obviously popular for business meetings and conferences. The Chinese restaurant (one of three) was good. Bar staff were helpful and mastered the foreign art of vodka and tonic very quickly. Buffet breakfast was dreadful, perhaps the worst I've had in China. Wi-fi is available in the Lobby.

Room Tip: Get as high as you can.
