“Incredible Experience....”
Reviewed 18 August 2009

We had just finished our Asian tour of Cambodia, Vietnam and decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel in Hong Kong on our last day before returning to Europe. We arrive at the hotel the check-in and service was okay. Got our room as requested on a high floor with an incredible view of the Harbour. The room was nicely done Bathrobes, great toiletries from the Bliss Spa and it had all kinds of gadgets for lighting of the room, mood, music from your ipods and movies etc. The bar was fully stock with Chanpange, chocolates, and treats at a very nice price! We went to the pool on the Top floor it was incredible with the view and you sat in a glass Jacuzzi overlooking the harbour at sunset with infinity pool, the sauna had the same vie on the floor below at night you could sit there and watch the full moon. The bed was very comfortable and sunday brunch was incredible too. We met friends in the bar of the hotel which was nicely done and the entire stay was a W experience! Of course the hotel was new and hopefully they kept up with their service and style. Nice and trendy but, on the expensive side so if you are looking to splurge and treat yourself then go for it!

We booked W Hotel because of the feedback on TripAdvisor a few months before our trip. We normally stay in hotels nearer the Ocean Terminal area. I was surprised to find out that W is actually in the new Elements Mall, quite a distance from Ocean Terminal.

When we arrived, we were informed that we were upgraded. However, when we got to the room, it was small and looked just like the room I had booked. I tried asking the engineering person who came to fix the warm aircon what kind of room we were in and he couldn't tell me.

While we were waiting for our luggage to come in, a housekeeper just walked in the room without having knocked. On top of all of this, we called their Whenever/Whatever service to ask about the schedule of the shuttle to Ocean Terminal. She said 12noon. We informed her that we would be taking it. At 12noon, we were at the shuttle area and the concierge was quite arrogant. He said that we should have made a reservation for the shuttle. We ended up taking a taxi just to save time.

I was quite disappointed already because we were paying more than the usual for really bad service.

On the way up to our room, we bumped into a Filipino concierge. He was politely asking about our stay and I unloaded by frustration on him.

I called Whenever/Whatever to make reservations for the shuttle and the girl was adamant that no reservations were needed. I told her to just reserve because that's what the concierge said. Hmmm... lack of communication between departments?

After talking to Gerald, the Filipino concierge, there was an Audi waiting to take us to Ocean Terminal. Then we were even given water and some Bliss towelettes. On our 1st night, champagne was waiting for us in our room to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary.

On our last day, we requested for late check-out but it's understandable that couldn't grant it because they were fully booked. But they did let us freshen up at the Bliss Spa upstairs:) It was beautiful and that staff there were totally great - warm, friendly and always smiling. The rest of W should be this way!

The pool is beautiful. You must take time to use it. But the attendants are just chit-chatting the whole time leaving a bad impression.

The rooms are beautiful. The hotel really sets a fantastic mood- candles, scent, music. It's a total sensory package. The details in the room are fantastic. The toileteries are a joy to use. And the bed is great to flop on at the end of a tiring shopping day.

All in all a great experience to try once. But I probably wouldn't return on a future trip.

Don't get me wrong. I love the flashy entrance, the glitzy lobby - ambient light shifting lifts with non-stop dj spun music. But after awhile - it does get quite much. Especially when you are paying close to USD400.

The Service was nothing to shout about and niether were the big black gothic rooms.

For this reason, im glad i tried W once in HK. But once is enough. People seem to be more in love with idea of the hotel than the hotel itself. I will say though, that it is a well located hotel that is placed at Elements - 1 train ride to the airport on the airport express.

I have had the fortune of staying in a wide variety of hotels but must say that the W Hong Kong is easily the most memorable. Set atop a new development in West Kowloon, the hotels offers a premium service, comfortable living and convenience, all within the modern and well-appointed design typical of a W Hotel. When I arrived, I was immediately struck by how funky the interior is but it still provides comfortable surroundings. The rooms themselves are beautifully furnished with quality upholsteries and the bed is very comfortable to sleep in. The bathroom houses a huge tub with TV, and is tiled in dark stone with interesting lighting. If you like modern design, the W will not disappoint and you will appreciate the high attention to detail such as the sliding mirror cover over the television, patterned wallpaper and open-top drinks cabinet.

The pool is one of the highlights of the hotel, and is perched on the 76th floor. The vantage point gives exquisite views of Kowloon and the ocean to the West, while the hot tub looks out towards the harbour and Hong Kong Island. The penthouse pool experience should not be missed and I took a dip every day during the duration of my stay. It would have been ideal to have a bar serving cocktails by the pool but I believe they will soon be introducing this. The infinity pool itself is sizeable and the gold and stone mosaic decoration is an interesting artistic addition.

We also enjoyed the Bliss spa service and had a foot soaking and full body massage. The massage was good and pre-treatment relaxation lounge also very comfortable. As hotel guests we were entitled to a complimentary manicure which was very professionally done. We did not try any of the restaurants at the hotel but being on top of the Elements shopping mall and Kowloon MTR/underground station, there is a wide variety of restaurants nearby and all the areas of interest in Hong Kong and Kowloon can be easily reached. The service at check-in and check-out was very quick and we found the staff friendly and accommodating.

Overall, I had a great time at the W and will definitely return in the future. There are other hotels in Hong Kong that vie for a similar group of travellers looking for exceptional service but none combine such a modern design and youthful ethos with the same degree of comfort and quality of service. Plus there is always the draw of the 76th storey swimming pool!

Although Kowloon isn't my favorite part of Hong Kong, I really liked the location of the W. Common areas were very cool, the room was excellent and the view was awesome.
