“Disgusting smell”

Week vacation over the Christmas holiday...we used Marriott rewards points and had to split our stay between two hotels. This one, tiny room and the scent of urine on the roll-a-way bed. Christmas Eve ruined. This is the worst Marriott property I have ever stayed at. Courtyards and Fairfield Inns are a 5 star compared to this hotel.

Stayed at the Renaissance Harbour View Hong Kong in October / November.

I have stayed at all the 5 star hotels in Hong Kong over the last 35 years , but the Renaissance is the best. My family and I were looked after very well , particularly by Bernard chief concierge , Sally and Ruby at the front desk and Jeffery bell captain.

This hotel is on Hong Kong Island and therefore away from the absolute shopping frenzy madness of Kowloon. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are very nice but also very small and a tiny bathroom. A two minute walk to catch a 10 min ferry to the very centre of Kowloon shopping if you want that. You don't need to book breakfast as there are lovely cafés and restaurants (mainly western though) within walking distance connected via a walkway directly to the hotel. Nice art works available nearby too. The gym was under renovation when we were there due for completion in a couple of months. Also building works outside which were quite noisy during the day. We upgraded to a harbour view room and glad we did. Fantastic views of the harbour life and Kowloon skyline. One negative is that we could smell cigarette smoke through the airconditioning vents in the bathroom.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a harbour view room!

Noisy construction and terrible paint/sealant fumes on Christmas Eve! After complaining that we nearly suffocated in our sleep the management put air purifier in hall which helped but fumes still overpowering. I have a headache and gagging in my throat as I write this review. Marriott standards not upheld...Construction makes getting to gym a 15 minute process each way. Even more time waiting for one of only two elevators that go to the 11th floor. Had to play game of repeatedly pushing down button bc other elevators that don't go pool/gym floor would stop and stay open until I stepped inside and pushed a random button inside to send them to random floors, so eventually the right elevator would come to my floor, lol...great system right?? No hot tub nor steam room?! Pool is heated but outside ugh. Good view of harbor but noise from traffic horns can be heard in my room on 29th floor. Bring ear plugs. Nearby building construction in every direction as well. Are they tearing down or building that tower next door? Looks and sounds like it will be going on for years. Internal hotel construction supposedly ends by Feb 2014...hope my next stay here is better bc the location is convenient for me.

My Husband and I stayed at the Renaissance while visiting HK. I travel a lot for work so I have stayed in many many hotels. Their service is amazing everyone was very nice and easy going. My husband is a Marriott gold member so we were able to enjoyed the lounge in the top floor. Our room was amazing not too small not to big perfect for us and our trip. the view of the harbor was amazing, even though we had to pay for the upgrade it was priceless.

This hotel has everything you need if you are attending a conference at the HKCEC, which is connected by a covered walkway. Comfortable rooms of quite a small size some overlooking the harbour, others not so lucky. You pay extra for higher level floors with harbour view, which we did, but the room was still a bit disappointing given the supplement, and did not have a bath.
That said, all the services, meals and breakfast were very good, shuttle bus service to high speed railway. Good access to buses, trams, metro.

Returned to the Renaissance Harbour View after a few years and was disappointed. Am sure the rooms with views make up for its shortcomings but we looked out on the gardens - nice but not as sensational as the harbour! We had two adults and a child in a small room with one drawer - so there was very very little room to put anything. There were tea/coffee cups but no spoons, there were drinks but no glasses, no back-up toilet roll and on several days things were not replaced - such as the bathroom mat, shampoo, etc. On one night our room "key" didn't work and instead of apologising for this the ladies at the desk accused me of taking someone else's key (how would I do this??). Mostly though they were friendly and efficient and the child's gift bag at start of visit was a nice touch (although once we were in the room bub was not catered for - not even an extra towel). Will say though that the kid's playground was the best I've come across at a hotel. So overall the visit was a bit up and down, for what the hotel costs I would prefer elsewhere.

Room Tip: pay extra for harbour views!
