We were pretty unhappy here- we literally came in, had 4 lousy dumplings, and decided to leave. The total came to more than 10 USD- ridiculous! Also not much help for foreigners- I realize this is part of an "authentic" experience, but it's nice to feel a little bit welcome.

This place is large, really large, covering two floors of the same building (though I think the trolleys only go around the third). It's busy and it's noisey. Also, as happened to me today, you might have to share a table, but I'm used to this from the Wan Tai (at the Staples Corner Wing Yip) in London.

To take full advantage of this place you really need to be used to the local accent. Even with knowing the Cantonese for most the dim sum on offer I still struggled to hear the cart ladies and had to ask them again what they were pushing round. Fortunately there's an English picture menu so they could point. The other two options for ordering and lanuage issue free as you either mark your desires on the order slip or wander to one of the specific counters.

The food is ok, nothing special, but not bad. The service is simlar. It's a safe place to come and you won't go wrong, but there are better.

There are lots of places to enjoy delicious dim sum in Hong Kong. Restaurants that employ “trolly dollies,” or female workers that push carts of steaming dim sum to their patrons are disappearing fast, and London Restaurant is one of the few that maintain this dying art of service.

The London is on the second floor of an office building in the Mongkok neighborhood of Hong Kong quite near the LANGHAM PLACE hotel. When we visited an older woman was in the lobby with a sign with the name of the restaurant, seemingly to reassure those walking in that they had indeed come to the right place.

We went up the elevator with a group of Hong Kong women and emerged on the second floor into a bustling dining room. Dim Sum is a tradition and there were lots of local families, groups of women, and older folks, enjoying their typical Hong Kong brunch in this convivial setting. The London is open daily from 7am to 4pm.

We were seated and plied with hot tea immediately. As Westerners, we were given picture menus to make things easier, but were encouraged by those at nearby tables to take our punch card up to the women roaming the carts with food and explore their offerings too.

Standouts were Stuffed Green Peppers (stuffed with shrimp paste, we think), Spicy Wontons (these were on the menu with pictures but not on the card they gave us, we had to make a special request for them but they were worth it), and the egg custard steamed in a whole coconut. We also had fried spring rolls, steamed shrimp dumplings, and chiu chow dumplings, all of which were excellent. Unfortunately for us, they were out of the baked barbecued pork buns when we arrived at 11am.

If you’re staying in Kowloon, and especially at the Langham Place hotel, the London Restaurant is a very convenient place to get a sense of the traditional dim sum experience, mingle with some locals, and enjoy some really delicious food at the same time.

This has to be my favourite place whenever I'm in Hong Kong. Their dim sum is superb but expect to pay a bit more compared to traditional teahouses. The "must trys" are their egg tarts and crispy roasted pork. The egg tarts are the smaller ones that can fit right into your mouth (at least it fit into mine). The pastry is light, custard is not overly sweet and the taste is heavenly. The crispy roast pork is nicely done and never served cold. Worth the extra calories I tell you.

The dim sum are still served in push carts which is the traditional way. The servers are friendly and never grouchy. Also do try their congee. It's not the usual porridge but this is the smooth version with lots of flavour on its own.
