“Perfect location with stylish rooms”
Reviewed 20 May 2012

I've found my new go-to hotel in Hong Kong. The location is absolutely spectacular -- a few steps away from the MTR, right in the heart of shopping district, and only a few minutes' walk away from a street full of bars and restaurants.

The rooms are quite large for an urban boutique, with big, new bathrooms (and a big tub!). I also really appreciated all of their extra amenities: free (decently fast) wifi, electric kettle, mini fridge, microwave and a safe. It made our stay a lot easier -- we were able to take leftovers home from meals and eat them later, and make tea and coffee in the morning. I was also pleasantly surprised with how quiet the hotel was, even with all of the hustle and bustle outside.

This hotel is perfect for the urban tourist --- someone who will spend most of the time out and about, but wants a quiet, clean, modern and comfortable place to crash at night.

As with other reviewers, we were attracted to this hotel based on the good reviews. We checked into room 1201 for five nights for our honeymoon (we travel on a budget!). I was disappointed by the staff, not particularly friendly, particularly at check-in. The cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired; coffee was spilt on the wall and the desk area and appeared to be there for sometime. There was hair from previous guests in the wardrobe area and bathroom. Shower was also mouldy. This was mentioned to staff and partially rectified. The location was ok, but we could stay in a harbourside hotel for the same price. Lifts were extremely slow, not good if you're busting for the loo! Also, a small quibble, but my husband mentioned in our booking notes that it was our honeymoon, and this was not noted by the staff. Disappointing and will not stay again!

Room Tip: Choose a room away from lifts - they can be noisy.

i wanted to try a new hotel while in HK so i booked this place based on reviews and photos. i wasn't disappointed.

pros:
the ipod dock in the bedroom
comfy bed!
great location
quiet room
cool decor

cons:
no instructions on how to use the nespresso machine
tiny bathroom compared to the size of the rest of the room
odd mirror placement (hard to view an outfit outside of the bathroom)
low powered hair dryer
slow elevators

Room Tip: get a room on a higher floor to get away from street noise. it's a busy area of TST...

If you are looking for a place to sleep that is affordable and easily accessible to shops and restaurants, butterfly hotel is for you. Frills are at a minimum. Don't be discouraged by the side street where it is located. Butterfly is simple, clean and maintained well. very small lobby which has computers for your use. smells great too! if you're travelling with friends they give you a bath enclosed but for couples, surprise! you get a glass enclosed see through bath. make sure you specify which you prefer. Hotel staff are very friendly.

Room Tip: specify what bathroom you prefer. some rooms are enclosed in glass therefore see through. not for fr...

The hotel deco is very modern and the rooms are in decent sizes despite the fact that we are in hong kong...
The location is quite good and you can get food easily ard there...
One thing to consider is tat our bathroom has no real door, u can see everything from the room. Suits couples only... :)
Probably they have other type of rooms.
We were at lvl 10 but facing the main road. Quite noisy at night due to the night clubs below.

The staff at the Butterfly was super friendly and accommodating.

Bed- soft and comfy, a rarity for China

Staff- very friendly and accommodating, they were AWESOME.

Location- right in the middle of the action in Tsim Sha Tsui, lots of restaurants and shopping right outside your door. Very close to bus stops and subway. Easy access to other parts of HK.

Rooms- pretty small but very well appointed so you don't miss the space. They have a microwave, fridge, water kettle and Ipod dock that charged my 4S. The lower floors are smoking rooms so make sure you specify non smoking and try to get as high a floor as possible for your room type. We did have an issue where there was a smoker on a non smoking floor but they changed our room right away and upgraded to a bigger room which was nice.

Wi-fi- free! which is so amazing since we stayed at other hotels that wanted $17 a night for it. They even have courtesy Imacs in the lobby for printing out any necessary docs like your e-ticket or fedex slips.

No bath robes here so bring your own if you like to get in one after a shower. But they do give you non-woven slippers to pad around in.

I'll definitely be back to stay here again. Also it's about 30 minutes from the airport without traffic, very easy drive and there's an hourly shuttle that runs to the airport for $140 HKD.

The hotel does not have a room service but there are so many places to eat around there that you don't miss it. Try the coconut sago drinks on the corner of Cameron and Chatham Road, they are DELICIOUS and only $7HKD.

Room Tip: Higher floors are farther away from smoking floors, 5-8. Bring your own robe.

i went ahead and book this hotel based on the glowing reviews here on tripadvisor and the comparatively affordable rate that the hotel offers - which is about SGD50 cheaper than the other hotels i was considering. my travel dates were 4 to 7 May 2012.

the great thing about this hotel is its location, location, location. like some reviewers previously mentioned, the area is well populated even at night so you'd feel rather safe walking the streets at any time. the next best thing about this hotel is the service. they are efficient and approachable.

i checked in first because i was already in HK for a work trip so my husband was flying up to join me for the weekend. his flight landed safely but he was delayed from disembarking because of the amber light warning due to thunderstorms. it was about 3am when he reached the hotel front desk and apparently the front desk personnel had already changed shift so the current one didn't know about the situation and my request for my husband to receive the room key in exchange for my name. they then accompanied my husband up to the room (i was already in dreamland) and waited for me to wake up and confirm that i was waiting for someone and i knew him before they left. i thought that was very good security indeed.

now, the not so good things: i was supposed to be on a non-smoking floor (level 9) but there was this guest who kept smoking and leaving his door open as he did so so as not to set off the smoke detector. i complained to the front desk about it twice and they said they will follow it up but i still smelt cigarette smoke at night or when i came out of my room in the morning the smell was still there lingering in the corridor. the hotel staff sprayed the area but it didn't solve the problem.

another issue was the room keys and the lift. i couldn't get the lift to read my room key on some occasions, which got pretty annoying. my husband's room key couldn't work at times when he was trying to get into the room and despite changing it, it didn't really help. am not sure why this happened.

the last night we were there, the room was not cleaned up much. the dustbin wasn't cleared even though it was full and the towels weren't changed (though the previous two nights it was). however we knew that the housekeeping staff had been in the room because the bathroom mat was changed. we just thought it was strange that he/she only did that and nothing else?

the room was small-ish but still comfortable enough for two. it's definitely more up-market than budget accommodation but affordable as well. there is no sort of view from my floor (level nine). we couldn't figure out the blinds or maybe it just doesn't work, i dont know, but i would have had liked some natural light in the room but it was completely blocked out by the blind.

all in all, i think it's a good place to stay if you can overlook some things, but i'm not sure if i will be back again so soon. if there's another place with equally competitive rates, i might just go over and try that.
