“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2012

this hotel is clean, modern and stylish. The service is great. Flatscreen, good storage space in the room (cupboard to hang clothes, desk etc) The only reason I give it "very good" instead of "excellent" is because whenever I stay there the pool is closed. It is only open during certain months and I usually come in March. To me it is definitely hot enough to swim but not to the management. I haven't eaten much in the hotel and my discount rate never includes breakfast, so can't really comment on the food. If you are staying in Hong Kong because of activities around the Island South area than this is a great value place to to stay.

Room Tip: I prefer the hill facing rooms as it is quiet and you can see nice trees

I stayed at L'Hotel, Island South for a week and was very pleasantly surprised. The location is excellent and buses run past the front door to almost every part of the island so getting around was easy. I used to live in Hong Kong and so did not want to stay in Central or pay "Central" prices. However, if this was your first trip to HK you might find the location a little out of the way. The hotel room was functional and well equiped and the gym was a good size with plenty of equipment. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I bought the package with including one superior room and 2 X ocean park tickets.
The hotel location is quite hard to search and quite far from the central.
But it is a perfect choice for you to visit ocean park. Ocean Park can be reached from hotel with walking around 10 mins.
The room is clean. The bed is soft.
But some of the front dest staff is not professional and even no smiling to guest.
No restaurant, no convenience store near hotel.

In my personal comment, This hotel is not recommended for staying if you are not visiting ocean park.

At first glance this place seems to have it all; good location, modern furnishings and decor....but so did Hitler's bunker.
Apart from anything else; you can not eat, drink or move your chairs closer while you're by the pool...in fact sitting down and shutting up to admire the concreted hillside opposite is all that the poolside offers. (except for the latest 'Now that's what I call appalling' music playlist.)
The food which requires no preparation (coffee, cheese) is ok because all they have to do is spend money on it but anything that requires the slightest bit of human contact is left severely wanting (croissants left under a desk lamp don't taste good no matter how expensive the butter is).
Basically DO NOT be fooled by the L' as it belies no Parisien charm or Bordeaux beauty whatsoever. In fact the only thing slightly French about the place is the rudeness of the staff.
All in all, find a good park bench with a starbux next door, and you (and the entire family) will have a better holiday experience than at this badly run, inhuman, boring, unfriendly "hotel".

Its as if there is native unrest just outside the gates and this joke of a hotel only houses the staff that don't have the sense to run for the hills.
Stay away...for God's sake, stay away!!!!!!!

*Excellent price point especially in Hongkong where other hotels are very expensive.
*The location might be a put off for Business people as it is located around 1.5 hours from Airport, though in a quiet location.
*Construction around the hotel still going on which can be a put off.

Highly recommended for Ocean Park fans as it is nearby, plus free shuttle to main town as well. One can lose time in commuting if South Island is not the primary destination. Value for money decent hotel compared to more expensive town hotels.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel as an end to a 3 week holiday to China, and it was a great way to finish the trip. We paid roughly £62 a night and got a great room on the 36th floor with spectacular views of Aberdeen Harbour area (we did get a free upgrade though).

The room was very spacious, bed comfortable, and the bathroom was excellent with good free toiletries included. The snacks and drinks in the mini-bar were on the pricey side, but we just used the refrigerator to stash our own drinks in. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but we did not use it - it looked pretty expensive. I did use the hotel gym and swimming pool several times though. The gym has treadmills, ellipticals, cycles, and weight machines - all quite good quality. The pool is small but nice - the water was really warm but we were there in June and everything was hot!

It is true that there is not much in the way of shops in the immediate area of the hotel, so for eating and evening entertainment we just headed into Causeway Bay. This was not difficult - just head out of the side street exit on the bottom floor and the bus stops are a few metres to the right on the same side of the street. I can't remember all the bus numbers, but mini bus 4c was the one we normally used and there were plenty of others. The journey takes about 10 minutes in the evening - straight through the Aberdeen Tunnel and then Causeway Bay area is about 5 minutes further on. Remembering where to get the bus back from might be a challenge if you're new to the area, as it is quite easy to get disorientated in the crowded streets. You can also get buses from the hotel to Central, Stanley, and Kowloon. It is easier to use the buses and trains in Hong Kong is you get an Octopus Card. This is similar to an Oyster Card in London, and you get slightly cheaper rates of transport and saves you having to have the right change for the bus. You can also use it on the Star Ferry and in some shops such as 7-11 for small purchases.

The hotel minibus is another option. We only used it several times, but it is very convenient to get to and from Hong Kong MTR station for the airport express. If you are flying out of HK airport, you can check your luggage in at this MTR station for free if you are going to use the express train, which is really convenient if you have time to kill before your flight. The bus also goes to Ocean World - really just a walk away but it can be confusing how to get there by foot due to all the flyovers and tall buildings.

There was a large building site in front of the hotel - this is the site for the new MTR line and station which will serve the south side of the Island. From our floor it wasn't noisy, but it could be on lower floors. When this new MTR line is finished, the prices will go up at this hotel considerably. As it is, it is cheap for a 4 star standard hotel in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor! Better views in such a vertical city. The view towards the coast and the har...
