Despite the pouring rain on & off both days we again found the Big Bus tours a great way to see the place, good numbers of staff on the ground at all the major stops. The buses were in good condition but did find a few areplug jacks either not working or vandalised on some of the buses.
The routes gave good coverage of Hong Kong Island & Kowloon, we were give plenty of tickets for the Star Ferry which came in handy.
The Sampan ride which was included with the bus tickets was good as well, gave us a close up view of local life from water level.

I tried the blue line for Hongkong island during the day and the night tour starting at star ferry terminal in Central. The night tour covers part of the day tour in Hong Kong island before handing off to Kowlong. It was a fabulous night tour and you got too see all the spetecular views.

The day tour was ok. Compared with the experience in Washington DC, Stockholm, Copenhagen, New York and Philadelphia, it is less fun and kind of boring.

Despite staff pushing various packages, we opted for the simple single trip on the green line which took us Stanley and Aberdeen. The narration was informative. Given the narrow roads and crazy driving we think the bus drivers have to focus more on the driving and not passengers. On one leg, our young driver had to deal with a delivery van backing into the front of the bus. The stop in Stanley is well located but the one in Aberdeen is not. We had been told that Aberdeen is a great place to enjoy a seafood meal. However, the, bus sets down in an out of they location which made it impossible to find places to eat other than jumbo floating restaurant which is where we ended up having a late lunch (turned out to be quite good). The sampan ride is short, but certainly gets you up close and personal with local life on the fishing vessels. The busses themselves should have some type of removable roof with open sides so that people wanted to shoot photos or video don't melt on the upper deck.

We were talked into taking the 48hour tickets and didn't regret it. Its a fantastic way to see both HK and Kowloon with commentary giving you very interesting historical information about everything. You can hop on and off as you wish all arround the routes. The tickets provided allow travel on the star ferry as well as all the bus routes and the Peak Tram. We stopped off and had a walk through some of the street markets which were a real eye opener. Do it its worth it.

It was VERY hot in Hong Kong during our visit. Too hot to walk around and too hot to sit for a long time on the upper deck. We likes the fact that we were able to really see vast areas of HK on this tour. We paid for the 48 hour ticket and it included tram and visit to the Peak, a Sampan ride, ferry tickets, a night tour, and a sightseeing ferry ride. We really enjoyed the tour - and loved the trip to Stanely and Aberdeen (be sure to get off and visit Stanley, the market, get lunch and if you can put your toes in the water just up the hill from the BB bus stop).

We learned for experience on an BB tour in Shanghai that if there was a stop we wanted to get off at, we should be on the bottom of the bus beforehand. This way we were sure to get off when the bus stopped briefly.
