The old Ritz Carlton in Central closed down 3 years ago and the building was demolished.
I was very fortunate to enjoy the very first days of the NEW Ritz Carlton with my family. And what a place they picked to open their doors again. They relocated to a truly spectacular spot in Hong Kong; on the top floors of the new ICC building at Kowloon side. It is officially the highest Hotel in the word.
Upon arrival we were welcomed in a stylish, luxurious lobby. If desired, we could have even gotten a nice cup of tea. We were guided to the elevators and 'lifted' by means of a single elevator-trip of 52 seconds to the 103rd floor.
The lobby on the 103rd. floor is spacious and very nice. Check-in is on this floor. There are several restaurants. The famous Italian restaurant located in the old Ritz Carlton is re-situated next to the lobby. There is an open kitchen so one can see all the action. The food was (again) very pleasant. Besides this Italian restaurant Tosca, there is the Chinese restaurant Tin Lung Heen and a dining area specialised in dishes made off and with chocolate; The Chocolate Library. In the Lounge & Bar area an international menu is served all day long as well as breakfast. I loved the huge MEGA lamps! What a design. Materials used throughout the Hotel; lots of marble, leather and plush fabrics. Pleasant, relaxing, stylish and 'luxurious' colour schemes. The overall interior design & lighting is breathtaking. Very well done.
The Ozone Rooftop Bar at the top floor is just spectacular when it’s dark; Incredible decoration. It will be one of THE places to be in Hong Kong.
Rooms: Well appointed and spacious. Bathroom (with TV) in cream coloured marble, flat screen TV (wall mounted) etc.etc. Colour scheme used: brownish, leather wall fabrics.
The swimming pool on the 118th floor is just stunning; the view is superb but also the clever use of flat screen panels next to and above the whole pool is fabulous; blue skies, moving white clouds and the likes. Very well designed. It’s the highest swimming pool in the world.
But the best part of the Old Ritz has been moved to the NEW Ritz; the people and their genuine warmth and level of service. I always loved to stay in the Old Ritz Carlton and I was pleased to hear that a lot of the former employees have returned to the new Hotel.
I will be a fan of this new place just as I was of the old one. Of course there were some small hiccups these first days but I am truly impressed. The Ozone Bar is from now on my most favourite spot in the world.
And my kids felt themselves very welcomed as well. Thank you and congratulations with this new place.
Just one question remains: will they place again this giant bouquet of Lilies back in the lobby…..? I always LOVED the smell of it; it was iconic.
