HONG KONG HOLIDAY – REVIEW OF YI SERVICED APARTMENTS
Overall, the apartments are comfortable and larger than most 3-4 star hotel rooms in the city. The disappointments are very irritating, rather than overwhelming, and they appear immediately after arrival. We were greeted very warmly and graciously and shown to our apartment by staff who remained courteous and helpful for the whole stay. However, we had not realised that the list of inclusions shown on the website for the apartments referred only to long term tenants, ie over 1 month, and not short-term tenants. So, our apartment had almost no kitchen appliances, crockery and cutlery. No soap was provided in the bathroom and no detergent for washing up or for laundry was supplied. After complaining, the helpful manager provided a twin plug-in hotplate, some cups, plates and a couple of spoons. These are small-cost items and it is bewildering why they are not provided, as the resentment it causese could be avoided by supplying these items, even if it means increasing the tariff a few $HK a day. So, we had to buy a couple of small cereal bowls and soap and the smallest packets of washing up and laundry detergent were enough to last for weeks, meaning we had to donate the unused portions to the apartments. The room has a sliding divider that can screen off the bed area from the living area and it is spacious enough to not feel cramped if staying in it for a period of a few hours. The apartments are not especially close to Nathan Road or the Harbour by Hong Kong standards, but the Star Ferry terminal is only about a 15-20 minutes walk away. They are very close to the History and Science museums, which are well worth a visit and abotu 10 minutes to the nearest MTR station East Tsim Sha Tsui. The apartments have free wireless internet and a large television. Strangely, the bed area has a clear glass window to the shower recess, not sure of the thinking behind that. The bed is queen size and comfortable. The room was quiet and sleep was never disturbed. The narrow one-way street it is in has a regular flow of taxis, which we found convenient as taxis are cheap. Overall, pleasant enough accommodation, but if the proprietors read these reviews, I do hope they consider supplying the items that are expected to be supplied in a serviced apartment as it would avoid the annoyance I referred to above. If that complaint was resolved, I would be happy to stay there again.
