Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East
Ranked #47 of 730 Hotels in Hong Kong
Reviewed 28 October 2012

I figured I'd give this new ICHG property a try because it was new, and also because the rate for a Club Floor room was better than a standard room at even the HI Express in Causeway Bay and about HK$1000/night less than the CP Causeway Bay or the HI Golden Mile.

The hotel is a long way from the city center--a major downside to the property, especially considering my business takes me to the HK Convention Center in Wan Chai...It's tough to get to--MTR is your best bet, but it's still 3 changes and a LONG walk...But having the Tseung Kwan O station attached to the hotel makes it a bit more palatable. A taxi to Tsim Sha Tsui is about HK$120 w/tolls and about HK$150 w/tolls to Wan Chai. Either the MTR or taxi is about a 30-40 minutes.

On to the property itself: Brand new, nice looking hotel on a small footprint. Everything is clean and modern. I will say that the 4 elevators for the entire hotel don't seem to be adequate. In 5 nights here (over 2 separate stays), I've had to wait 5-7 minutes a few times to get an elevator.

The rooms are good size for Hong Kong. I've stayed in both a 2-bed double and a king room. The 2-bed double was a bigger, better laid out room with more than ample space. After staying in that, the king room seems a little tight--but still big by Hong Kong standards. Good-sized flat-panel TV built into the wall. Nice bathroom--marble/tile everywhere, separate 'room' for the toilet, stand-alone shower and bathtub. Comfortable bed, and a well-appointed, modern look to the room. Internet is fast...Not sure of the rate as it is not an extra charge for Club Level guests.

The breakfast is extensive with many Chinese and American options, cooked-to-order eggs, free flow of juices. Since the Club room included breakfast, however, I'm glad I wasn't paying separately for it, as it was expensive, I think around HK$200/person.

The staff of this place is amazing! Then again, I did have a Club-level room booked, and the club staff is what sets this place above. Winnie, CeCe, Hazel and the rest of the Club Lounge staff were great. Upon returning to the hotel after being in Guangzhou for 4 days, I was checked in for my 2nd stay within 2 minutes of arriving. They remembered me by name, no credit card again ("we have yours on file, here's your key") and I was in my room minutes after walking back in the hotel. These gals are so friendly, caring and service-oriented.

The evening reception for the Club Level--AMAZING food. Full Italian-style antipasto buffet--nearly a dozen different meats (salami, pepperoni, spicy sausage, parma ham, prosciutto, smoked salmon, etc), 5-6 different cheeses, salad, breads, veggies and all the fixings for a proper caprese salad. Everything was of great quality, I'm sure most products were imported from Italy--no Chinese-made 'attempts' here. All of this made more than enough for a meal. While I could practically live on this type of food as it's among my favorites, it did start to get a bit repetitive after 4 nights.

About the only negative was that the Club Lounge is not an exclusive place as it is in most hotels. It is paired with a restaurant on the 47th floor...They do have a separate area on the floor exclusively for Club Level guests, but it's a very small room about 4 X 10m (12 X 30 feet), this is offset by the fact that there is a nice outdoor terrace...A nice open area, but no special views, as you're so far away from main HK skyline. It's also the only place where I do have to actually sign a bill (although it's zero) for everything consumed. More of a minor inconvenience than anything, and the staff, food and service surely outweigh any shortcomings.

I will give them a pass on some of these things--it seems like they're working out some kinks, because the place has only been open about 3 weeks as I write this on the last night of my final stay here this trip. Knowing the staff and management and their efforts, I'm sure some of these minor things will change by the next time I stay here.

As mentioned above, it's connected to the Tseung Kwan O MTR Station, and also the Popcorn Mall--a nice little mall with many shops, restaurants and a movie theatre. Other than that, TKO is mostly a residential area. A shuttle bus to ANYWHERE would be a welcome addition--maybe a few a day to Central, the Convention Centre, TST or the Airport Express stations?

I hope to be back here next time I'm in Hong Kong...I just hope they keep the rate low enough to justify the commute to Wan Chai/Central or Tsim Sha Tsui. If they do, I'll be back and keep coming back! LOVE this hotel.

Me and my husband stayed in this hotel only for 2 days but it was really remarkable.
The hotel is new and shiny, the staff is extra-ordinarily helpful specially the concierge.
The hotel is a little bit far from the center of the city but it is connected directly to the MTR which makes life easier over there, also the hotel is connected to 4 shopping malls...
Overall, we had a pleasant stay in the hotel and we definitely recommend it.

I love Hong Kong but my wallet doesn't, especially when speaking about finding a hotel; I have chosen this one for the brand and the price, to be considered affordable in a city where you're frequently asked for the moon (> 150 Eur) even when sleeping in 3 square meters.

The hotel is pretty far away from Kowloon center and the HK Island, but the metro station is in the basement together with a cute mall with restaurants and services. The area is quiet, secure (there is a school and a hospital in front) and under huge development, so with growing prices.

The hall is huge and crowded by very kind attendants: 3 of them offer to take your baggage, other 2 open the door, other 5 manage the check-in procedures and other 4 say "hello", "welcome, sir" and all these amenities.
Even being a Priority Club member, they didn't give me free internet, so I have managed to use the password for the lobby area (it's free of charge) taking advantage of the weak signal still getting to my room.

Room was spacious with a nice view on the tall building in front that didn't choke anything. Amazing bathroom, a nice cleaning service and a very pleasant sensation of beng home.

The only minus... the breakfast was not included, and the price - 21 EUR - was real... ouch!

The metro station - Tsung Wang O - is on the basement, 1 minute walk and you'll be in; it takes approx 25 mins to get to the Hong Kong business and shopping area, including LKF, and 38 mins to get to the Hung Hom Station, even if you have to change 3 lines. The metro is very intelligent, you don't have to climb and descend stairs continuously as in Moscow so it's convenient also if you have a suitcase with you.

Finally: good hotel, very new, very big, very well serviced but the impression is that, in order to make money, they will have to rely on school and group trips because the location could dis-encourage the wealthy buisnessmen (not me).
