We spent 3 nights at this hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful, the bedroom was clean and the bed comfortable.
.
Breakfast was good with lots of variety to choose from, the evening meals were also good especially the buffet.

The only drawback to this hotel was that it was someway from the center, although the tram was quite near and quite cheap to use.

Room Tip: ask for a non smoking room

We stayed in Traders as a couple in October 11. We had one of the higher rooms which offered a pretty good harbour view. The location in Western is certainly a little off the Central/Wanchai/Kowloon tourist territory - but for the value you get, it is a fair trade- off. Actually the area around the hotel, with its local market and interesting shops is certainly worth a bit of wandering around. The MTR will eventually have a station nearby, but meantime you’ll have no trouble hailing a cab which are plentiful around there, cheap too……or if you have the time, stroll 50 m to the tram stop which will rumble the full breadth of the island, and at negligible cost. Do ask reception for a hotel card to show taxi drivers when returning, though, as many taxi drivers don’t seem to yet recognise the location or name of Traders.

There are plenty of 7 Elevens and supermarkets around the hotel for room snacks or a bottle of wine. Also there are several very efficient and cheap laundries which will return reliably within 24 hours. ATMs abound as well, so good location really.

These tram/taxi options meant we didn’t actually bother to use the hotel courtesy bus. If anyone is stopping in HK for more than a day or two, I’d strongly recommend purchasing an Octopus Card on arrival. This can be topped up and is usable on not only the MTR, but buses, trams, and ferries to Kowloon and the Islands. If you are a senior Citizen ask for a Senior Concession card, which cuts the already cheap travel costs in half!

The hotel itself was perfectly fine. It is the functional business arm of Shangri La, so that in itself is something of a guarantee. Decent sized room, good comfy large bed, clean, adequate storage, free room wifi and safe. We had a couple of malfunctions re the toilet flushing and the window blind…..but these were attended to in minutes. Reception and cleaning staff were pleasant and helpful, and the concierge team really helpful. We used the restaurant a couple of times mainly for an all-day breakfast or a burger and these were good. The Sky Lounge on the top floor was great for a nightcap and a pretty spectacular view, though it did I think shut at 11pm, leaving the Lobby Bar open until 1 am (though it did close a little early if quiet!).

Final suggestions away from the normal tourist locations. Take a ferry trip to one of the islands. E.g. go to Lamma and do the long walk (2 hours) from Young Shue Wan to So Kwu Wan and have a great seafood meal there. You can get a ferry back to Central from there and don’t need to walk back! Or take a ferry to Mui Wo on Lantau even if just for a pint at the China Bear there and a Turkish meal nearby! If you’ve got the time take the bus from Mui Wo to Tai O, a really interesting “fishing village on stilts” on the far end of the island.

No problem at all with Traders…you’ll be fine there. It is extremely good value. The only reason I rate it 4 and not 5 is what do you then give really top-end luxury hotels that do well?

Room Tip: Ask for a higher up room for harbour view and above any traffic noise.

Just what you expect from a hotel, friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities and good value.
The location could be better, but taxis are so cheap and plentiful that it really doesnt matter.

Room Tip: I had a higher room and it was very quiet, no road noise. Elevator takes quite a long time though.

Good quality with rooms serviced every day. Breakfast & dinner buffet excellent quality and value for money. While hotel may appear a little out of the center it is not an issue due to free shuttle bus and the tram system which passes 5 minutes walk away from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ensure non-smoking room and you will be higher up and get a view of the harbour between the buildings opposite. If you have the dinner buffet and are over 65 tell them your age and you get it half price.

I like Traders Hotels and this one is no exception!
Clean comfortable bedrooms, very good friendly service and breakfast on the 28th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour is a feature for guests on the Traders Club floors.
Situated slightly out of the centre but taxis are cheap. I will return
