“Perfect - Location, service, accommodations and SPECTACULAR view of Hong Kong Harbour”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Lovely hotel with spacious rooms, over the top breakfast buffet, fabulous, helpful concierge and the rooftop bar and Italian restaurant has a spectacular view of Hong Kong Harbour. Great viewing of the nightly light show. You can dine and/or just have drinks. Worth a visit even if you don't stay in hotel. Centrally located. Easy to walk everywhere and minutes from Star Ferry.

The check in was disorderly, with no clear pattern of where the line starts or ends, or even a line. Similarly check out was equally obnoxious. The hotel, like much of HK, smelled very damp. At breakfast they grouped the different members of my party, who were all staying in different rooms, on the same breakfast bill which then caused more confusion at checkout. Basically this hotel needs a good manager and a dehumidifier.

We got off to a bad start with our pre-booked limousine transfer "cancelled" and the substitute taxi delivering us to the wrong hotel. Then it went uphill very rapidly. Things do go wrong when you travel but the difference is in how it is handled. We were collected personally by the Continental Club Manager, Ms Winnie Siu who was most apologetic. This was followed with the best service I have ever experienced from any hotel in the world.
We had booked the Club Floor and would recommend this. The Club serves non alcoholic beverages all day with light food and cocktails from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. The staff remember your name, preferences and swiftly anticipate your needs. The service is of a very high level. Breakfast is adequately catered here too.
The bedding was extremely comfortable and our room quite large and well appointed. It is an older hotel but not shabby and what it lacks in newness, it makes up for in outstanding service at every level of operation.
We found it very convenient to the ferries and MTR.
The weather was rainy and misty the whole week we were there so our view of the Harbour was perhaps less than if it was sunny, but we still spent quite a bit of time watching out the window. It was recommended to us to stay on Hong Kong Island at a particular Hotel but it was unavailable for the full time. I now know that we will never try it as we were so happy with the Marco Polo, thanks in no small way to Ms Siu and her team.

Room Tip: A room with a Harbour View is great if you have time to enjoy the view and the light show.

This hotel is situated close to the Star ferry terminal which is a plus. The downside is that it is part of a shopping mall full of over-priced designer shops and is situated in an area which the local HK population rarely choose to visit. It does not give the visitor any sense of the real Hong Kong and I am very glad that this is the first and now the only time I will choose to stay here. Whilst many of the photos on tripadvisor show rooms with lovely harbour views (which would have been appreciated) my room had no view other than the back entrances to nearby buildings and was dark and under lit. I would recommend avoiding Kowloon as far as hotels are concerned and opting for a hotel on HK island.

Room Tip: Insist on a harbour view otherwise you will end up with a view of the back entrance of the building...

The hotel is situated on the Kowloon side but it has a perfect connection with the island: the boat is at the door and mtr station is just around the corner. The rooms are very cozy, the view is nice, breakfast has a wide selection. We used the pool - simple and nice. It is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask the harbour view

it is a great hotel but it is quite old compared to other hotels in the city. The great location makes up for it though, attached to a very nice mall with several options for dining and shopping. There is also convenient access to the ferry to cross the harbor. However, there is quite a bit of a walk to the nearest subway station. The rooms aren't too shabby, but a bit small. They are very clean and quite comfortable.
