The Excelsior, Hong Kong

Our family of four recently spent two nights at the Excelsior during a business/pleasure trip to Hong Kong. Decent experience overall. The lobby, fitness room, and other common areas are clean and modern. The rooms are clean as well, though the décor and furnishings are a bit dated. For family travel, one indispensable convenience was that they were able to provide us connecting rooms (one double, one with two twins), which are not always easy to find around Asia.

The hotel is centrally located - walking distance to plenty of shopping, dining, and sites including Victoria Park and the Central Library of HK. Only factor that hampered our experience was loud hall neighbors that woke us up several times during the night, but this was probably circumstantial and not characteristic of this property overall. Oh...and also, no swimming pool. =(

Stayed over in Hong Kong for 48 hours of tourism with our 14 and 16 year old children en route to a resort holiday in Bali. Well appointed, large rooms - especially so for Hong Kong - and excellent, very helpful service from the staff. The hotel, which is in Causeway Bay, provided an excellent base for visits to Stanley, the peak, the old city and across to the markets and shops in Kowloon. Given the price included two airport transfers with excellent support and advice from the guides on the minibus, the stay was excellent value for money.

The first thing that thrills when you enter the room is its sheer size - its big. As you approach the window and look out, you are greeted by the huge expanse of water in the bay which is a very soothing sight. What more could one ask for in Hong Kong at an affordable price ? The only downside of the rooms is that they wear a dated look having been furnished years ago, but as a traveler who requires comfortable and clean rooms I do not care about that. The size. location and the view more than make up for the dated appearance.

The hotel is in the heart of Wan-Chai district the shopping mecca of Hong Kong and one has easy access to other parts of the city via the metro. The metro station is only a 5 min walk away from the hotel. The staff is very polite and will help you in getting local tours. If you don't wish to eat at the slick hotel restaurant [which I found a trifle expensive] there are numerous eateries in the neighborhood. There is a Starbucks outlet located very conveniently close to the hotel right across the road from the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper stories from which you will get an excellent view of the bay and Kowloon...

Spent 5 nights at the Excelsior & had a wonderful stay. The service staff was excellent & both check-in & checkout processes were quick & efficient. The room was a bit old but overall it was nice & clean. Had a room facing the harbour on a high floor which offered excellent views of the harbour & Kowloon.

Best part of the hotel is its location, just minutes away from the MTR, with lots of shopping & food options. Definitely the hotel to stay if you're in the Causeway Bay area.

The hotel was exactly what I wanted from my short stay in Hong Kong - a room on the upper floors of a tall building with views across the bay to Kowloon. The view is awesome.

The hotel is a little worn, but not surprising, as it was very busy, and I guess it's like that almost all the time. The room, again, was a little lived in and perhaps a little old fashioned. Perhaps it could use a little sprucing up, but if I'd have wanted to pay for 5 star I'd have stayed somewhere else. The hotel was very good value and ticked all my boxes.

It's on the water, and at the heart of the Wan Chai shopping district.

If you want a fancy hotel experience and a huge room, you probably want to stay somewhere else, but if you want awesome views, a fantastic rooftop terrace bar/restaurant, easy access to transport, shops and bars, this will be fantastic.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a Kowloon view.
