this was my 5th stay at island shangri-la within short term past week so the manager
was nice to me and gave me a lift up to horizon club rooms. Frankly, I don't realized
it was different to the rooms I stayed before unless there was some items that I didn't
use like the Nespresso machine. Sleep perfect, that's my mean priority as I am on business and need a rest during the night. I don't want to re-say it again in detail but the hotel is top-notch by all means and quality is high standard. Amazing buffet dinner at Café Too , I am realistic, this is probably not to top by others. They put Rock Lobsters in dozens if not hundreds there every night I was there. On Horizon Club floor, while having breakfast, I enjoyed a amazing view over the city, it's kind of mixed buffet and a-la-carte which enhanced the level of luxury taste. Bravo again !

I am not a fan of huge, generic hotels. However, I can only recommend this hotel very highly.

It all started very well when I was met at the airport by the hotel's Rolls Royce Phantom, rather than the usual Mercedes. A stroke of luck, but a great way to arrive! I was met at the car and taken straight to my room, to be checked in by the helpful and friendly 'Nathalie'. This is how 5 star service should work.

I ate in the hotel, used the gym and drank in two of the exterior bars. And everything was terrific. I was working in the Pacific area of HK Island, so the location ws great too.

The staff here are fantastic! Hotel is almost overwhelmingly large and sumptuous and the breakfast buffet had abolutely every food one could desire apart from kippers and kedgeree. Only down sides were that they (unannounced) started drilling in a neighbouring room and we couldnt be moved after we complained til the next day (but were given a comp bottle of wine) and the 2 rooms we had were a wee bit musty; its a shame when one cant open windows even a little bit but thats modern hotels now. It was very comfy, just as one would expect from that standard of hotel. Well done to all the staff there, nothing was too much

Room Tip: Go high for the harbour view

Great rooms, great service, great amenities, great location, great view of The Peak, fabulous food - to me, if you're going to stay in HK Island - stay here, it's a great choice. Shopoholics can enjoy the adjoining Pacific Place. Centrally located on the island, getting around is a breeze. But the best thing about this hotel, it's room and the service. Everything a 5 star hotel should be and although it's a bit expensive, you will feel that you've got your money's worth. I can name a few hotel managers that should stay a week here to learn how a first class hotel is run. Kudos to the Island Shangrila team. I'll be back!

Hong Kong is a city awash with great hotels, and the Island Shangri-La is definitely among the best in town.

Positives:

1) Very nice, classy rooms with all of the amenities (not bog-standard corporate)
2) Great views in all directions - don't get hung up on harbour view - Peak view is also very nice
3) Fantastic service - very rarely make a wrong step
4) Best breakfast buffet in town in my humble opinion, with huge array of options from western to Chinese to Indian and everything in between
5) Good gym, good pool for city hotel (not as good as Four Seasons, but very good)
6) Good location above Pacific Place mall/Admiralty MTR station
7) Wan Chai and Central both easily walkable
8) Good for business or family
9) Next to Hong Kong park - nice green area in urban jungle

Only very slight downsides:

1) Spa not the best in town - go to the Mandarin/Four Seasons/Hyatt for best hotel treatments
2) Cabs can be an issue at peak hours (but so can alot of places)
3) Don't bother with Petrus - better high-end french restaurants in town (Caprice much better)

Comparison with other hotels:

1) Better than other hotels in Pacific Place/Admiralty in my view (Conrad/Marriot)
2) More character than Four Seasons, but location slightly less good (Four Seasons right above IFC mall/airport express, and linked to Central escalator path) - with that said distances all walkable in Hong Kong
3) Comparable to Mandarin, although Mandarin is more in heart of Central (both Mandarin and Landmark Mandarin) - really personal choice
4) Much better location than W or Ritz-Carlton (good hotels, but area they are in sucks in my view)
5) Not as much character as Peninsula (nothing has this) - really depends on if you prefer Hong Kong or Kowloon side.

All in all - at least among top 5 in Hong Kong - just depends on your taste!

Room Tip: All rooms above 39th floor, so good views in all directions. Don't get caught up on water view...

A very classy hotel and very helpful staff. We were given a very musty room and on immediately complaining were moved and given wine and champagne as an apology. The room was large and comfortable and had a fab view of the Peak. The hotel is centrally located for the Peak and a member of staff recommended avoiding the long queues to go up the Peak by taking a taxi there and getting the tram back. There were no queues on the return but long queues for those wanting to go up.when we arrived back down. We ate in the hotel and found their restaurants very good and the lobby lounge had superb snacks and afternoon tea.

I stayed at this hotel every 2 months for 4 years, when I was traveling on business to Hong Kong and China. I tried several other hotels in HK, but found none that rivaled the service, restaurant, comfort of the rooms and location convenience to everything in HK. Joining their frequent customer program leads to many perks and room upgrades to the Horizon club, whenever they are available.
