Wonderful hotel. Best experience we've ever had. Don't miss the afternoon buffet! Incredible gym and lovely pool. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

What a lovely hotel to stay in on Hong Kong island. Its all been said in previous reviews - lovely rooms of a good size, great bathrooms, nice views, helpful staff, well set up gym, useful business centre etc etc.

The breakfast buffet had some lovely selections (even vegemite for us Aussies) but the cooked Western breakfast wasn't the best I have ever had - but then you don't go to Hong Kong to eat a Western breakfast do you!

Hong Kong island is definitely quieter than Kowloon and we used the opportunity to visit Hong Kong park (just across the road - beautiful place for a walk), take the Peak tram (a short walk through Hong Kong park - and go early to miss the queues!), and party a bit in Wan Chai (you can take a tram for as far as you like).

The Island Shangri-la is connected to Admiralty MTR via a large shopping centre which has plenty of shops and eateries, and a 7-11 not far away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stayed 3 nights in a Premier Horizon Club Harbour View room (5307).

A stunning view from a beautiful and tastefully appointed room.

We had come from the Shangri-La in sydney and the GM there commented that as good as the service was in Sydney, nothing could compare it to HK - he was spot on. The service and people are simply outstanding. They live and breath customer service - you cannot ask for more professional standards.

Pool and jacuzzi was wonderful.
Wifi excellent
Loved the TV in the bathroom
Nespresso machine was really great

We used the hotel car service (black S class) - very good and fairly priced.

Horizon Club food was not very good at all (compared to Sydney). Cakes and biscuits were lacking in quality; sandwiches and rolls a bit unimaginative considering the venue and the hotel quality elsewhere. Needs addressing.

Breakast (Horizon Club) at Petrus was simply amazing (book a table for the view) although the cooked elements (like full English breakfast) was clearly not cooked by someone who understands what makes a great full english breakfast.
You dont need to book an inclusive rate 'with breakfast' if you are staying in a Horozon Club room as it is complimentary.

The only real issue I have is the the one of how the hotel 'director of communications' answers issues on this web site - she/he doesnt. Every time there is an issue, all that he/she does is ask the writer to email a generic non-personalised email address to 'address it personally' - this is a cop out; the director of communications should be responding, on the website, to the issues, so we can all read there comments. This is partly HK/Chinese 'face' culture - but Shangri-La is a major chain - you take the money, take the input and respond accordingly, in public.

We stayed at the Shangri-La in August 2010 in a Deluxe Peak View Room. The hotel really is very beautiful, and it's easy to see why it earns its 5 stars. The service is absolutely impeccable, and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The location is brilliant, being an easy walk to the subway station, shopping malls, peak tram etc.

The room itself was beautifully appointed, and very spacious. The biggest let down for us was the bed - it was really very hard, and quite uncomfortable. We stayed in 5 hotels during this trip across Asia, and unfortunately the bed at the Shangri-La was the worst of the lot.

Overall the hotel is fantastic, but a good night's sleep is paramount for us, so we will be looking somewhere else next time.

Its what you typically expect from a 5 star hotel. The lobby looks soo elegant. We stayed in a harbour view room and it is spacious and elegantly furnished. The room has coffee/tea maker, Big comfy bed. Big sized tub, separate shower, etc.. anything you see in their site is exactly what you'll get. Its spotlessly clean, the staff are well trained. But there is nothing that separate it from other 5 star hotels. Lan kwai fong is actually on the same area as this hotel so it will be good for those people who likes the night life. at the same time this hotel is connected to a mall so there are loads of places to go to for shopping and dining.

Service level is excellent. Beds are very good.
I did have an occasional visitor while I was working at the desk: a cockroach.
Before the Island Shangri-La I stayed a couple of nights at the Intercontinental Grand Stanford. Though the level of furbishment is no the same, in my opinion paying 3x the price at the Shangri-la is not worthwile.

I travelled quite a few times in Hong Kong in past 6 months and during my 5 visits I stayed in this Hotel 3 times. Convenient location, excellent value for money rooms, having among the best restaurants of Hong Kong and the more importantly excellent people which is the main asset of this hotel. I am in Love in this hotel since first time I stayed here in June this year.

Rooms are very comfortable, very clean and environment is very pleasant. This hotel always welcomes you after long working days / flights and pleased to greet you.

Very convenient location, access to one of the best shopping mall of the city, access to central business district. What else a business traveller need ?

The Golden Circle frequent guest programme is also very good and offer wide range of point system. All in all very nice place to stay in Hong Kong.
