I judge hotels based on their on price and quality. (I never say poor breakfast for a small selection in a 3 star hotel, because what did you expect in a 3 star hotel?) so here goes:
Pros: Lovely attention to detail, nice view, unreal selection for breakfast. Amazing interior in the lobby. Kind staff.
Cons: a tad bit old furniture and old styling....For the price they should think about remodelling soon...Dirty windows on the outside, at xmas dinner they sold us a "drink package" without properly telling that it is not included in our Xmas dinner buffet. You know the trick: :Would you like some champagne Sir? Sure.(thinking it is just as free as the coffee at breakfast) Two glasses arrive and a check arrives. Niiiice. Real Smooth. 5 star type? nope more like vacuum sales type. I dont mind paying but please dont do it like that. 60 USD per person btw. Free flow champagne. i'd say the champagne was not an expensive one. (never heard the type before) ANNNNNNYway. When mentioned at checkout I got a sorry for it! Spank you very much.
And for a 250 USD per person buffet dinner the Brussel Sprouts were not cooked well. But that is just me getting my pitiful revenge for the champagne thing. :-)

Room Tip: The view of the Harbor is not exactly the main harbor view . The picture you see often are more on t...

Kowloon Shangri-la was our choice of destination for our stay in HK and we were happy with our choice.
-service was good
-we opted for only breakfast and the spread was wonderful for us veggies... There was also a live Indian counter serving hot Indian b'fast..
-the rooms were pretty spacious and neatly maintained..
-as a runner, i liked the location.. i could easily get to the promenade from the bridge across the cafe and do loops on the waterfront...
-since we were doing the touristy thing, we didn't make use of any other facilities at the hotel
-its conveniently located... East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is right outside.. also there's a 7-Eleven right outside for any emergency needs (specially helpful for family travelers like us)... also an Indian restaurant is also pretty close by

Cons:
-On the expensive side (not really a con, since you get what you pay for)
-Staff needs to relax a bit, sometimes they come across as too much "formal"... that said the restaurant staff was great...
-not sure if there was an indoor heated pool, would have loved 1 tho'

Thanks for your feedback - good to hear you enjoyed the location and the food variety - we have 2 very good Indian Chefs in Cafe Kool and they create some fabulous vegetarian dishes (as well as the usual tandoori non-veg). We do have a small indoor pool in our health club in the basement - perhaps try it out on your next visit. Regards Timothy Wright

I booked Kowloon Shangri-la because this hotel offers amazing view of the harbour, the perfect place to celebrate my wedding anniversary.
I booked via the official website ( which is cheaper ) for 2 nights stay, and I got nice surprises everyday.

day 1

when we arrived at the hotel, the staff was very helpful and fast, the surprise was the 'guest relation' officer , Miss Torra , gave my wife a bouqet of nice flowers, she took our picture, she also gave us some information in an evelope including HK map
They give us a pot of chinese tea as welcome drink and a plate of fresh fruit.

the ROOM was very huge ( deluxe harbour view room ) , electric gordyn , complete stationary , you also can use HP 5 in 1printer, complimentary local call, etc. etc
the BATHROOM was also huge , you won't regret a thing staying in Shangri-la

day 2

we got another nice surprise, a bottle of champagne !! for free !!
and then they gave our picture that was taken the day before.

day 3

we decided to check out because we had to take an early flight.
so we kept our luggages at the cocierge and told them that we got back at 3 am in the morning.
the surprise was, the staff let us use business centre to rest while waiting for the time to go to airport.

we 'd like to thank to Kowloon Shangri-la hotel for being part of our wedding anniversay celebration

I strongly recommend this hotel, you can get stunning harbour view at a lower cost than other 5 star hotel with so much high class features

Room Tip: ps. when you have something to celebrate just tell them when you book

We have just returned from Hong Kong where we had a 6 night stay at the Kowloon Shangrila ,located in a outstanding location on the Kowloon harbour promenade..We have stayed at this property a number of times, however on this occassion we brought along our two teenage sons.We were also joined by my sister, her husband and her two teenage children. We booked Horizon Club harbour view rooms with an interconnecting room for the kids. The property is located within walking distance to the star ferry terminal,MTR terminal and is positioned in within the shopping precinct.
From the very first moment we arrived, the hotel's staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.Their geniune smiles and greetings were greatly appreciated.
The rooms were impeccably clean with an array of high qulaity batroom tioletries , abundent towels and bottled drinking water , which were replenished daily. There were also robes ,slippers ,extra blankets ,pillows and the usual well stocked room fridge and expresso machine. The rooms were serviced promptly and once again the staff really looked liked they enjoyed their work.
The harbour views were second to none and well worth the extra cost. The free Wi Fi was greatly appreciated by the kids as they brought along their lap tops.
We utelised the pool and gym everyday ,a great range of equipment ,steam room and very clean change rooms and shower facilities.Plenty of towels, cold water and fresh fruit.
We had daily breakfast at Cafe kool -the buffett selection is just incredible -if you can,t find what you want here, you won't find it any where else. The food was very fresh and of extremely high quality with both western and asian themes.Again the staff were very welcoming and earger to look after us.We visited the Horizon Club lounge daily where the views are outstanding along with the service and quality of nibbles and beverages.
In final we were so impressed how our children were very welcome and respected-they will be future clients and are already wanting to book a return trip. There is nothing negative I can say about this hotel, it is just a timeless classic with staff that really want to be there and enjoy what they are doing-with the icing on the cake ,is seeing the General Manager mixing with guests in the lobby and restaurants ,to see if there is anything else he can do to make their stay more comfortable. In most hotels you rarely see the GM- they are usally hiding in their offices.

On an extra note I would like to single out Andy in room service and Omar -the bell boy for their extra efforts and advice. It does not matter at what level you stand it is truely a team effort at the Kowloon Shangrila.

Room Tip: Book Horizon Club room with harbour view.

Do yourself a favor and get on over to the Mandarin to really experience 5 star treatment and accommodation. This Shangrila Hotel is an overpriced, busy hotel which needs a real revamp - the ceilings in the bathrooms are so low that if you stand up in the bath your head just about touches the ceiling. The only place to have anything to eat if you happen to arrive late is the rather noisy and crowded Tapas bar and the food is rather good however do not look behind the service counter as the chief does not wear gloves (or seemingly wash their hands all to often - yet keep on pushing his glasses up and touching his face then right back into your dinner) - and this was done again at breakfast the next morning. Not a good thing to experience in a supposed 5 star establishment.

Room Tip: Dont check in - try another 5star hotel

Thank you for your review and for your constructive comments on the food preparation - we will be addressing this with our culinary team for immediate corrective action. Our All Day Dining restaurant, Cafe Kool is open until midnight serving a wide range of international dishes a la carte as well as the popular buffet. This may have been a more suitable location for your late dinner. Thank you for your feedback which is of great help. Regards Timothy Wright

-Service was excellent, the duty manager, Calvin, was so helpful. Thank you.
-a used shower cap was left in the bathoom by the previous occupant (fault of housekeeping)
-bathroom needs updating, very small bath tub and space, shower head is just the ordinary (no rain shower) compared to newer hotels...
-room area is just okay, not too big and not too small
-fruits were given upon request, should be in the room upon arrival
-lobby is huge, a Shangrila...
-location is quite far from the ferry especially if you have luggage to carry but location is ok if you are into shopping...they have a free shuttle every 45 mins to Harbour City...
-mtr is really near, very convenient...with 7/11 just outside the hotel.,.
-our rooms have nice view of the harbour
-breakfast buffet was ok with lots of choices...
-beds are firm...
-staffs were really good and had tried to meet client expectations
