I think, the central location cannot be one single condition to have 5 stars. Low ceilings, narrow corridors, poor bath amenities. And very strong air-conditioners everywhere in public zones. Not cosy place absolutely. But honestly I have to say that staff is welcoming and professional.

Two nights with the wife minus the kids, great food at Shang Palace and harbour views- we couldn't ask for more!

We had booked one of the "bonus choice" packages, opting for arrival pickup and were met at the exit by friendly staff who guided us to a limousine waiting. We had a pleasant trip to the hotel, were met at the door and shown to the Horizon Club reception, where check-in was instantaneous.

Our club room was on the 19th floor, facing the harbour and Hong Kong island. When the card slit in and electricity was on, the curtains automatically swept open to reveal one of the world's most stunning views.

We had dinner at Angelini, the hotel's Italian restaurant which was rather nice, with excellent pasta but as our table was hidden by a pillar, we were out of side and had difficulty catching the waiters' attention.

Breakfast next morning was at the Horizon Club lounge, with stunning views and a decent spread of breakfast buffet, as well as a la carte orders of which the caviar on egg white omelette was outstanding.

Dinner at Shang Palace was a pleasure. We were greeted by a tea sommelier Kenneth who helped us choose a suitable tea (great choice of an Anxi province tea). My wife, who does not really drink tea much ended up drinking more than I did. Our waiter Tommy was very knowledgeable, too and advised us well. I guess we over- ordered. Other than that, my wife's cod was slightly smelly while mine was perfectly fine. Regardless of that, both of us enjoyed the dinner very much and would certainly come again.

After a constitutional, we had a late drink in the lounge bar with an excellent live band. Next morning breakfast at the Horizon, my wife had a first peek at the main lobby breakfast which had a larger spread but not such a nice view.

Last thing to mention is the extraordinary hair dresser at the hotel. Mr Wing Tan is a trichologist and both my wife and I are most happy with the perfectly natural way he cut my wife's hair.

In sum, a thoroughly pleasant two days at the Kowloon Shangri La.

If there's one distinguishing feature of this hotel, I would have to say it's the location. We moved here from The Peninsula to join our Tauck tour group. It was a nice hotel. Housekeeping was a bit lacking. For example, I saw a stray hair, rust stains, and some scum in the bathroom. The room's furniture showed some wear and tear. Breakfast wasn't really to my liking, although they did offer a wide selection. But, the harbor views were gorgeous. The metro is right across the street. That is a huge plus in Hong Kong. We found the metro to be the most convenient mode of transportation in Hong Kong. The traffic, plus the considerably higher cost and language issues, made it almost ridiculous to hire a cab. Plus, the hotel connects directly to the Promenade, which is where the Avenue of the Stars is (and probably where you have the best views of the harbor on foot). Starbucks is right across the street. I understand why our tour company chose the hotel, although there are much grander options in Hong Kong.

My wife and I stayed at the Kowloon Shangri-La for 4 nights at the end of April 2014. We had not stayed at this hotel before, and were very impressed. Whilst we expected a quality hotel based upon the tariffs, our expectations were exceeded by the quality of the room and the customer service. The staff were very friendly, professional and always looking for ways to assist.
Our flight from Paris arrived very early, and while we were unable to check into our room (9am), they allowed us to shower and change in the health club and leave our luggage for the day. That shower made such a difference after a long flight!
We booked the City - View Deluxe room as compared to the Harbour - View room. Although we read the comments on Trip Advisor suggesting we upgrade to the Harbour - View room, our room was fine. It was pretty foggy while we were there so I doubt the better view would have been useful. The room was huge, the bed fantastic and we hardly heard any noise from other rooms or the street.

The buffet breakfast was good (approx HKD $280 per person), however we thought the buffet dinner was a little expensive (approx HKD $625 per person). The Hotel Tappas bar was fantastic and provides a great atmosphere. Make use of the Happy Hour 2 for 1 drinks, it is a great deal.

The hotel was situated in a good location and easily accessible to the waterfront (connected via a covered walkway), TST subway and Nathan Road. There were plenty of eating options nearby providing a range of cuisines.

Check in / check out was quick and easy and they even offered to swap our left over Hong Kong coins for notes upon departure.

The staff made us feel very welcome and we really enjoyed our experience. We would happily return to the Kowloon Shangri-La and have no reservations in recommending this hotel to other travellers.

We recently stayed in a Premier Harbour View Suite - a Horizon Club room. We stayed in the master bedroom and had two rollaways in the lounge area for our 4 and 6 year olds. There was plenty of room for the two rollaways. Our room and stay at Kowlooon Shangri-La made our stay in Hong Kong. We absolutely loved everything about it and could not recommend more highly. The staff are beyond friendly, the Horizon Club is well worth the extra paid and the views from the room were amazing. Would definitely return next time in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: If you are weighing up the extra cost of the Horizon Club/water views I can honestly say they are we...

We had a great stay. On arrival we paid for the room upgrade to a harbour room with breakfast and it was worth every cent. Such a stunning view and the buffet breakfast keeps you going all day. The hotel is in a fantastic location and we found we could get a cab easily to most places for around $4 AUD. The Shang Palace restaurant was superb. We splurged and had the Chef's banquet. Pricey but the food was amazing and was not what we would normally have ordered so great to try new things.

Room Tip: Harbour view room worth every cent
