“excellent value and comfortable”
Reviewed 25 June 2009

While not disagreeing with some of the negative comments in recent
reviews, I give this hotel 5 stars because it is a very comfortable
hotel that can be had for a reasonable price. If you reserve a room on
the internet, you can get a spacious, clean, quiet room for about 1,100
Hong Kong dollars. We had absolutely no problems during our stay. The
staff was attentive and very fast. We put the "do not disturb sign" on
our door whenever we were in the room to avoid room checks whereby
someone might open the door at anytime. The decor of the room and the
hotel does not suit my taste, but it wasn't enough to bother me. The
room was very clean and comfortable. By reserving the room on the
internet, the internet access was provided at no extra charge. Both
ethernet and wireless were available. If you are forced to pay for it,
it will be HK $6/min. or HK $170 maximum for 24 hours. Thus it's best
to get the free internet if you can. The location is great-- lots of
shops in Causeway Bay and near all manner of transport, including the
subway. The chinese restaurant on the third floor was absolutely first
rate, but expensive. Recommend trying Mak Noodle shop nearby for
unbeatable won ton noodles (ask the concierge for directions). There is
a complimentary shuttle bus to and from the airport. Call ahead for
directions and times-- you have to go to the Regal Airport hotel, which
is next to the airport and about 5 minutes by foot. The bus runs on a
fixed schedule and is a good way to see the city.

My real issue with this hotel is a matter of taste. Dated 'Renaissance' isn't really my thing and I found the whole decor an affront to the senses. So if you like this style - you are much more likely to like this hotel.

In terms of pros: the hotel is in a good location, close to the MTR, has decent sized rooms and is clean (housekeeping were lovely), safe and was really good value.

On the negative side - there is no bar; nowhere to relax unless you are in the 'club floor' (which didn't seem worth the bother to me); the wi-fi didn't work in the room; the internet was expensive (in many hotels internet is free nowadays); the toiletries are minimal (I spent the first few days going out to buy basics); the bathroom grout needed re-doing; the 'free' newspaper was indeed a free newspaper (the one you get at the MTR station); the door staff only ever opened the door near them (not the one I was going out of); the coffee shop looks like a gilt version of a staff canteen and the decor (personal taste, I know) is utterly vile. Oh & the pool is pretty crap too.

So if you don't mind the decor and you need a room for the night - it is a good bet. If you are there for 3 weeks and are interested in Interior Design, run for your life.
