“What a great place to stage in Hong Kong!”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

Stayed four nights at the Harbour Grand Kowloon and upgraded to a harbour view room. Large room, quiet location right on the harbour, fabulous 5 star hotel. Lovely half hour walk along the waterfront to the city centre or if you wish a 10 min ride in the free hotel shuttle which runs on the half hour. What an amazing sight at night looking across at all the lights on Hong Kong Island. From the hotel it's an easy walk to the ferries to Hong Kong Island. There are many shops and a major shopping centre within a few minutes walk from the hotel. When we next return to Hong Kong we will certainly use this hotel as our stop-over place and would not consider moving to another. We did not dine at this hotel so cannot comment on the restaurants.

Room Tip: A room on a higher floor overlooking the harbour is just the best!

I have stayed in this hotel once or twice a year for the past six years. It is always like coming home, especially the warm welcome you get from the doormen. They greet me by name, and even when arriving with other colleagues they know each of us by name. That is impressive! Delightful reception area, my only criticism is that sometimes check in and out can take rather longer than it should. Rooms are a delight, very spacious with huge beds. Great view if you want a harbour room, good air conditioning (although a little noisy). Bathrooms are first class, loads of marble, good soap and shampoo. Breakfast is excellent with a very wide choice from omelettes cooked to order through to Chinese! The bar staff on the terrace bar are superb, friendly regular faces most have been there for several years. The location is excellent in the slightly quieter area of Kowloon, a short and cheap cab ride to the ferry terminal and main shopping area. All in all a great place to stay in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: The court view rooms are about £50 a night cheaper if you have seen the view before.

Writing this is a great disappointment because we stayed here 2 years ago. We have returned so it must have been ok then. I have never before given less than a 4 for an allegedly 5 star place – this is the first time I have given a 3 – and a 2 was a real prospect for a while,
We checked in and went to the room. The pass keys didn’t work ( either of them) – back down to reception – nobody seemed to think that state of affairs was unusual. Finally gained access to the room to an airconditioner that sounded like the Valkyries thundering across the sky ; some adjustment made it just bearable. A request for an adaptor took ages to be fulfilled. We had to phone three numbers ( Valet, Housekeeping and Front Desk before anyone bothered to answer the phone). Paid Wi Fi – in a (supposedly) 5 star hotel is completely unacceptable. This is the 7th place we have stayed this trip (Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam) and the only place that has happened. Complaints to the front desk were met with complete indifference. Mrs Brissie is not happy because after describing the provided shampoo and conditioner in terms that shouldn’t be published the hotel’s provided hairdryer didn’t fit any electrical socket in the bathroom. After all that we need a drink. Bar was outside although covered ( there is an air-conditioned part but no view which is why you stay on the harbour in Hong Kong) and we had to brave a tropical shower to get there. When we did service to procure 2 drinks was unacceptably slow. Next morning for breakfast we ordered 2 poached eggs from the waiter (as the card said to do) – didn’t arrive. A second more pointed request produced the eggs (cooked properly) but not before another substantial wait. Feeling stressed we decided on a massage at the “Spa”; joke – the “spa” is allegedly at the fitness centre but we were actually taken to what is an ordinary room with 2 massage tables and people who only just knew what they were doing. None of that is acceptable in a 4 star hotel much less 5 star, This place has a lot of work to do if it is to have the effrontery to call itself 5 star. One measure of its commitment will be to see whether it bothers to respond to this.
I should say that there are some plusses; as I sit and type this I am looking straight up the harbour with its myriad boats coming and going (which is pleasant even with Mrs Brissie in the background swearing at the hairdryer again); the hotel is a bit out of the way at the end of Kowloon but there is an efficient shuttle bus to Nathan Rd every half hour and within 12 months the MRT will be extended to here (lots of work in surrounding streets at the moment. Breakfast (despite being slow if you want poached eggs) is varied and plentiful and is had in what must surely be one of the most spectacular breakfast views in the world – right on the harbour. Anyhow we will be back in HK in December but we won’t be staying here.

We arrived at the hotel having been travelling around China for a couple of weeks. Walking in, you are immediately struck by a very pleasant aroma and, having been confronted by a lovely water feature and the sparkling lights of Hong Kong island through the floor to ceiling windows, the elegance of the reception area draws you in.
The staff are excellent, quick and precise while polite and courteous, exactly what you want after a long hot flight and the lateness of the hour.
On arrival in the room you are not disappointed. A luxurious size, the rooms are well furnished with a fantastic view out across Hong Kong harbour and are immaculate. The bathroom too was spotless and nicely arranged.
There are a number of dining options although we opted to eat out every night. The main restaurant serving breakfast has a great view across the harbour and is a nice place to start the day. The cafe is also somewhere to relax and an excellent selection of pastries can be found here. We also ate in the bar and the food was, while slightly overpriced we felt, of a very good standard and again the staff are excellent.
The hotel itself is well located on the harbour in Kowloon, a short walk from downtown and easily accessible is Tsim Sha Tsui and the Star Line Ferry port, not to mention the 'main' shopping and restaurant area. If you don't want to walk, there is a free shuttle bus or taxis that are always parked outside and are very cheap. The advantage with being located here too is that a walkway directly from outside the hotel looks out over the lights of Hong Kong, a fantastic spectacle when the sun has gone down, so no need to stray too far if you don't want to.
We didn't want to leave this hotel and that speakers volumes. One of the best hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world. Highly recommended.

I stayed in the club room which entitled me to the use of the club lounge. Well worth the extra fee as you have a fantastic continental breakfast and/or cereal toast croissants tea coffee juices yoghurt etc etc the list goes on. Arvo tea is supplied and evening nibbles which is enough food if you do not want to head out of the hotel.
All day Internet access in the lounge.
The room was fantastic with such an amazing view.
Very clean in the room and complimentary water and fruit every day.
Staff in the hotel are so polite and friendly.
Gym sauna steam room pool and spa all included
An overall 5 star rating from me.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and upgrade. You will not be disappointed

What a great place to stay for our first trip to Hong Kong...our 9 year old boys still talk about it now-they adored the rooftop pool and the fact they could order milk shakes from the rooftop bar!
Myriad of international breakfasts, good gym, friendly staff and great shuttle service into the star ferry. Rooms very comfortable and great views of harbour.
Boys extremely excited by the fact the Chelsea Football team were also staying in the hotel...lots of autographs.
We will definitely be back...wonderful memories.

We stayed here in April at the start of a family holiday. We had booked the Courtview room, but upgraded to a harbour view. The room was huge with two large beds a walk in closet, lovely big bathroom and sitting area with views . The kids loved the pool and hubby loved the gym. The staff were friendly and helpful . Although a little out of town taxis are so cheap it didn't make any difference, the free bus was also helpful. It's also not very far to walk to the avenue of the stars along the waterfront. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend!

Room Tip: It was worth the upgrade.
