“Great Hotel with fantastic views”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

The Harbour Grand Hotel is situated in Kowloon with exceptional views over the harbour to Hong Kong. Good Hotel with friendly staff. Good restaurant with reasonable choice of meals. Good Wi fi Immediate area around is similar to most of Kowloon and Hong Kong. Many Skyscrapers, very, very, busy. An impression of being dirty.

The hotel was great - a wonderful oasis in Hong Kong. Yes, the shuttle to TST was necessary in July (our first day we walked too long in the heat - albeit on the impressive waterfront path - to reach the same area). Running every half hour and with friendly drivers who let us wait on the air conditioned bus if we arrived early (and stopped to pick us up when we flagged them down when we arrived seconds to late), the trip was never too long even with traffic.
We liked the hotel breakfast (though on the expensive side - about $30US each) for convenience but we didn't do it every day.
The pool was phenomenal though more areas with shade would be welcome.
My husband loved the gym.
The view from the room (harbour view, 13th floor) was impressive. I think we may have had a corner room because we had two full walls of windows...
The standard of the room, lobby, housekeeping, front desk (the employees looked very young but were always able to answer questions and arranged us late checkout) ... superb, especially for the reasonable price.
The neighborhood (whampoa gardens) is quirky (with a large ship-turned-dept store) and we didn't find great food there (there is outback, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Haagen dasz, plus more local food) so we ended up eating a bit further away every evening (a great Italian restaurant - Spasso in TST Centre - is most highly recommended).
We had a fantastic time at the Harbour Grand Kowloon, and if we ever travel back to Hong Kong, it will be partially to stay here again!

I stayed at this hotel for business for quite a long period and had a suite room. The hotel is in a great location for views of the harbour and across to Hong Kong Island . The roof top pool has sun beds( a little uncomfortable) and is a good spot for taking photographs. Staff at this hotel a very pleasant and well mannered . The door men in particular are very nice and helpful. Rooms at the hotel are a little tired looking but are very clean and spacious . Plenty of eating options at the hotel and close by. 10 mins by taxi to the star ferry for Hong Kong Island or you stroll down the promenade all the way to Avenue of stars.

Room Tip: For tourists that want to be in HK island this us not a good location. However is close to Mongkok...

Stayed here for a week in March 2012. Great location, spectacular views. Quite a few weddings took place whilst we were there and could understand why as the hotel is a stunning hotel on the harbour front.
The room was clean and spacious which looked out onto the Victoria harbour.. lovely view to wake up to.
Doorman was particularly helpful and pleasant. The hotel offers a free bus every 30 minutes but it’s easy nice enough to walk to the star ferry (15 minutes), taxis to HK main land weren’t overly priced either.
The only food we ate within the hotel was at the Harbour Grill restaurant was lovely and a meal which was part of room service (lovely but costly), on both occasions the hotel managed to cater for my friend and I who are vegetarian and GF with no stress.
The roof top pool was beautiful as were the views from it. The gym has all the essential machines/weights and was clean.
Would recommend this hotel.

First impressions count for quite a lot. The lobby at the Harbour Grand seems to have been designed with that in mind, but in our experience it was badly let down by the hotel's reception staff. After queuing for a short time, we had to stand at the counter for a further 5-10 minutes while various paper was shuffled. The fact we didn't have a credit card resulted in further delay and a debit card was apparently no substitute, despite having been accepted at many other hotels. We were ultimately put in a room with no mini-bar - not even an empty fridge - but it was the general frostiness of the welcome that stuck with us. Later, when we asked for access to the very expensive wifi on offer, we were required to pay upfront more than we could have spent if we used it every day for our entire stay. The surplus was refunded when we checked out, but the general policy of distrust is unpleasant - and guests are ultimately obliged to trust the management by handing over access to their money.

Beyond the cold customer service, there's not that much wrong with the hotel. The rooms are clean and the harbour views are good. The roof-top swimming pool has not seen much love in recent years and shuts quite early in the evening - we picked the hotel for that novelty more than anything else, and I would discourage others from doing the same. The hotel is quite a long walk from the centre and from the MTR, although we quite enjoyed wandering along the harbour-front.

If you can get a cheap deal and just want a clean bedroom with the option of a harbour view, you could probably do worse than this. If you want somewhere with a bit of warmth in its approach, try elsewhere. We enjoyed Hong Kong and hope to be back, but would not stay in the Harbour Grand again.

We stayed here for a few nights at the end of our holiday. We previously stayed more central earlier in our stay in Kowloon and this hotel was far superior.

Hotel - very large and very busy. Lovely setting with a large business like feel about it. Right on the harbour front and about 25 mins walk to the star ferry. They offer a free bus however it was usually full 10 mins prior to deleting everytime we wanted to use it so we mainly walked or took a taxi. The food was excellent if a little high on price. The pool offers a great view over the harbour however it's a shame that it shuts early at 8pm as it's cool swimming with the backdrop of the harbour.

Room - very large for Hong Kong, clean and very comfortable however did stink of smoke (was supposed to be a non smoking room). A large shower and we had a harbour view which was brilliant to wake up to each day.

Location - as mentioned, you can get to the main tourist areas by walking however it is a tough walk in the heat however the taxi is cheap enough. The immediate area is good with a few restaurants and shops very close. It is close to Hung Hom underground however it's a tricky walk. The free airport bus (k1) from kowloon train station stops in the lobby which is great.

Generally a solid option for Hong Kong. Seemed to attract a lot of Chinese visitors and business travellers mainly. It felt very busy but staff were good at making you confortable.
