“Good size room, great view of Victoria Harbour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2010

My wife and I stayed here 10/8/2010 - 10/16/2010 and loved it. We booked the Harbour Club - Harbour View room. The room was good size and very comfortable with a stunning view of Victoria Harbour. The Harbour Club rooms are worth every penny. The free breakfast buffet in the private club was excellent and the afternoon tea and snacks were very good as well. The only meals we paid for was dinner in the evening as the big breakfast and afternoon snacks kept us going all day. Staff was very attentive and when I needed anything I made one call and it was there in seconds, ice, room service at 11pm. The hotel shuttle bus got us to and from Tsim Sha Tsui in a few minutes where we picked up the MTR to get anywhere. Late at night we took cabs from Tsim Sha Tsui which cost ~ 30 HKD or ~ $4.00 US. The hotel shuttle runs every half hour, was very clean and on time all the time. Roof top pool was awesome and the bar serving drinks and food was nice to have around. This is the only place I'd stay while in Hong Kong. Side note: There is a great Thai food place, Sweet Basil, about a two minute walk down Tak Fung Street. Best Thai I've ever had.

We stayed here for the last 4 nights of our honeymoon in early October 2010 after nearly 2 weeks in an amazing hotel in Bali. We had such amazing service and accommodation there that I think our expectations for this hotel were a little too high really.

The exterior of the hotel feels grand and luxurious, as does the lobby. We had a spacious Harbour View room that was clean and tidy, but it wasn't anything special really. The view was very good, if a little obstructed. Air con was noisy and the towels and bathrobes were old and rough, it was like drying yourself with sandpaper! Plus the mini bar is very expensive.

The location isn’t great. There was a shuttle bus downtown but it parks hidden away under the car park and it didn't stop outside the hotel doors, so we missed it the first day. The star ferry port is only 5 mins away though.

There was a firework display on the harbour while we were there – the hotel invited hotel guests to watch it from the roof and billed it as a ‘cocktail party’ that included food and drinks, which we had to pay about £20 each for. It was good but nobody from the hotel seemed to be conducting it, so it felt a bit soulless and everyone was wandering around a bit aimlessly. I thought it would have been a great opportunity for the hotel to greet their guests. The buffet food was amazing but there wasn’t a cocktail in sight – ‘beer and wine only’ a surly voice told us! And we only just saw the firework display as the hotel is quite far away from the main bit of the harbour. Anyone slightly leaning over the rope patrician to see the fireworks was promptly shouted at by a member of staff to get back!

The pool on the roof is good - not as nice as the pics though and you have to go to the gym downstairs to get a tiny towel. Plus there was never anyone at the bar when we were there and it all closes at 8pm. So don’t expect to enjoy nighttime views on the roof over the harbour – except at a ‘no cocktails cocktail party’ you have to pay for!

The staff were efficient but we found most of them very cold. As I said, we were spoilt in Bali where everyone is so warm and friendly, so it could be that our perception was slightly off. But we had no smiles from the front desk staff at all and any interaction, such as ‘good morning’, was met with confused looks. And the breakfast staff were bordering on rude!

In fact, breakfast was a bit of an ordeal really. Good options, but they often ran out of things like butter and white bread! And it was so chaotic and busy that we couldn't be bothered. The timings are strict too. One member of staff even tapped his watch as I sat down with a slice of toast at 9.50 (breakfast finishes at 10am) and said "10 minutes, finish!" And don't expect a second cup of coffee or tea - it's a mission to get the first one! Tables are also really close together. It’s not a great way to start the day.

In all, I think it's a good business hotel, but it’s not special enough for a honeymoon. I know it's a city, but we were hoping for a little more warmth.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in September 2010 at the beginning of our honeymoon. We chose this hotel after doing alot of research on tripadvisor and were not disappointed. The hotel is situated in Kowloon on the edge of Victoria Harbour with amazing views of the Hong Kong Skyline. The pool on the roof of the hotel is breathtaking and is something we will never forget. The lobby with it's huge chandelier is also a real sight.

After reading recommendations on here we booked a room on the Harbour Club floor. This was really good value and included in the price was a Harbour View, priority check-in as well as breakfast, afternoon tea, evening snacks & drinks all served in the club lounge. My only criticism of this was that the lounge did lack a bit of atmosphere as it's only view is of the buidling opposite instead of the stunning views which surround the rest of the hotel. However, the staff in here were always friendly and courteous and went out of there way to help us with making dining arrangements in the city.

The hotel is surrounded by restaurants and shops and there is also a free shuttle bus to the train station, Mody Road and Nathan road which runs every half an hour and we made good use of this. We only ate at the hotel once which was at the al fresco restaurant where the food & cocktails were very nice and the prices were quite reasonable.

Overall, a fantastic hotel which was excellent value.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Harbour Grand Hotel, yes it is a little bit out of the centre but with a free frequent shuttle bus available it was not a problem. If anything it was a plus point as we spent the day seeing the sights of Hong Kong and then travelled back to the hotel and had a dip in the most beautiful pool I have ever seen and viewed the amazing Hong Kong Skyline in a peaceful location! We found the hotel restaurants quite expensive and seen as it was our first stop on our trip travelling round Oz we were feeling cautious with our cash so we ate out most of the time. There were plenty of places to eat in a 5 minute walk from the hotel and also room service meals were very reasonable.

This hotel has the most magnificient entrance and gorgeous views of the harbour. The beds are enormous with a choice of pillows which I loved.
There are tea and cofee making facilities and a fridge and mini bar.
You and 5 restaurants to choose from
The roof top effinity pool is wonderful and it is a great place to sit and relax with a drink from the bar.
There is a free regular shuttle bus to Nathan Road shops and the downtown water front. Great feature.
The staff had good knowledge of English and were very helpful sorting our tours etc. All you can eat buffet breakfast was devine with fresh omelets and waffle being made while you wait.
The bathroom had marble throughout with a seperate bath and shower very nice.
Last great feature was the remote control for the tv and lights

We stayed here for three nights (my second visit) and honestly can't fault the hotel. Everyone encountered gave excellent, professional and friendly service.

If you can afford it upgrade to a club floor room, with a harbour view, which are beautifully and well-furnished with spacious marble bathrooms. Housekeeping was excellent. The club lounge claims to provide a continental breakfast when, in fact, it provides an extensive breakfast, the only thing missing was fried eggs and the smoked salmon and scrambed eggs were great. Afternoon tea is also provided which, although not taken in grand surroundings as experienced in the Penninsula, was far superior in quality and quantity. Evening drinks and canapes are provided between 6pm and 8pm and are plentiful and very tasty; we didn't need to eat dinner.

Complimentary computer/internet facilities are available in the club lounge.

The staff in the club lounge are friendly and efficient and Polly goes that extra mile.

Don't trouble researching other hotels, stay here, you'll love it. We would every much enjoy revisiting.

Real 5 star experience, the hotel has the ambience and looks very stylish. The room was so spacious with 3 windows and the harbour view to die for. The view from the sea was amazing, boats and ferries. The staff was excellent and the food was amazing. They offered free shuttle to the airport train station. The swimming pool is on the top floor with magnificent harbour views, est place for relaxation.
