“Great hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Great hotel. Good service, and location. I got upgraded to a room with balcony with a view of central. The only draw back is the price but it is typical for all good hotels in Hong Kong. I would stay here again when I know I will be staying more time on Kowloon side.

We stayed here for Easter weekend as a family in a harbour view room. The hotel itself is probably in need of renovation but I cannot say enough about the service and location. The view from our room was breathtaking and every staff member we encountered very accommodating. The breakfast deserves special mention - it was more expensive than some hotels but had an incredible selection and the view of the harbour. I travel a lot and stay at some nice places which normally means when I travel personally, I am not normally blown away but I have to say that this hotel went pretty close. It may be a little bit more than some other hotels but is worth a premium - we last stayed at the other Intercontinental which is a lot cheaper but there is definitely good reason for the price difference.

I just don't get it. This is an older property that has great service and a great view, but with all the hotels in HK, it just doesn't stand out. This hotel is out of my budget range but I had a free IHG voucher good anywhere in the world, so I was very excited to stay here. I've stayed at many upscale hotels in the past (see my profile) and this one just didn't stand out for the price one would usually pay.

Probably the worst part was overlooking a construction site from my very small room. My Platinum status didn't help with an upgrade since I used a free voucher they told me. However, there are people paying $400 a night for a view of a construction site. Why?

We appreciate your feedback following your recent stay with us. While we are glad to hear that you enjoyed our service and harbourviews, we are sorry to learn that our hotel did not live up to your expectations. As you saw during your stay, Hong Kong is a city in constant evolution. We are working closely with our neighbors, New World Development, to minimize any disturbance to our guests while its redevelopment takes place. In the meantime, we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our hotel to experience the hotel from our harbourview accommodations, which make up almost 2/3 of all guest rooms.

I stayed here for 2 nights using my loyalty points, so consequently was great value ie free. However normal prices are circa £350 Gbp per night which is pricey.the rooms are comfortable but relatively small and you wouldn't want to spend a lot of time in your room.
Service is really excellent.
However the reason you are paying the money is because of the jaw dropping night time view...just stunning.
Hotel is also well located for everything.

Room Tip: Book a harbour view

I have stayed at many of the 5 star Hong Kong hotels over the years but this hotel has the best view of any. The advantage this hotel has over the 4 Seasons etc is that many hotels of this quality are on Hong Kong Island whilst the Intercontinental is on Kowloon - consequently you get a great view of the harbour and the Island. Arrived early but reception got us into an suite (upgrade) within 90 minutes. Room was large and well appointed with small lounge area and desk plus king size bed. Bathroom was large with walk-in shower (with steam sauna) and jacuzzi bath. Best of all the room was on an (angled) corner so we had two large windows that gave us stunning views both up and down the harbour and of Hong Kong Island.

Had drinks in the Lobby Lounge and watched the Laser Light show that evening. Excellent service but wine prices are high. Dined later in the 1 Michelin star Steak House Wine Bar Grill - would have preferred to go local but it was Easter and many restaurants were fully booked. Food was very good - not just steaks as one of our party was a non meat eater. Breakfast was a buffet in the Harbourside Restaurant - excellent range and quality of food. Service was exceptional.

Overall a great 5 star hotel with facilities and service to match.

The hotel has unbeatable close up views of Victoria Harbour and the evening light show, an excellent location. It is worth the extra for a harbour view room.Oddly higher isn't best, the lower floors have good views of the walkway too, which higher floors lack.
The rooms are beginning to look a bit tired, they are on the small side but very comfortable. The hotel is extremely busy, and unfortunately currently there is noisy building work in progress.
We ate one night at Nobu and had a fantastic meal, breakfast was very good too.
A good hotel with a good convenient position in Hong Kong.
