“Very good, but a little hard to get to at night...”
Reviewed 8 July 2010

Stayed here for two nights in June. The service is very good. I arrived at 6:30 in the morning after an overnight flight and was allowed to check in immediately at no extra cost, so I could have a shower, and a sleep and actually had the rest of the day as a result, so it was really wonderful.
The room was really tiny (!!), but this is fairly typical of Hong Kong where land is not available in abundance. The bed was great, and the bathroom excellent, so we just had to make sure we did not bump into on another. The free internet was slow, but it was working.
Right outside the hotel there are all kinds of buses to take towards the centre, some of which are free of charge (which run roughly once every half hour). We always ended up buying a ticket on the bus, but please beware: 1) few bus drivers are very friendly; 2) give no change; and 3) they speak no English. This meant that we found it a little hard to taker a bus back to our hotel, although we did manage on one occasion. Taxis are everywhere, and they are not terribly expensive, so they are certainly also an option, but walking here from the Centre might be quite hard, unless you've got good legs and use one one of the side streets which has something like 100 meters of escalators going all the way up the hill to a point very close to the hotel.
The gym looks great and has a great view, but the running machine was a little clunky. I would not recommend using the running machine, unless you weigh less than 50kg. There are other machines which I did not try.
Outside the hotel (turn right) there are a few small shops and restaurants. It's not a very exciting area at all, but you can find some nice places for dinner if you walk around a little. I might try a different hotel next time (possibly in Kowloon, which could also be called "the centre"), but I certainly wouldn't mind staying here again if it was for business.

2 nights here after touring the Far East and before our flight back to the UK. After reading reviews we felt that with a short time in HK this hotel would be the right location for us to do the tourist things we wanted to do. The location was superb for the peak tram, Gardens, Central Ferry terminal for boat trips and use the escalators to quickly get to the shops and restaurants. The mid level escalators are about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
To get to the hotel we took the airport express to Hong Kong Station and then our plan was to get the hotel shuttle services. However we arrived at about 10.00pm only to find the shuttle servies were finished. We tried to follow our map and asked directions to walk to the hotel and found this difficult. Went back to the HK station and jumped in a taxi - about 10 mins and HK$30.
We had booked a double with harbour view ( the harbour view turned out to be a small strip of water between 2 tall bulidings). On checking in the receptionist noticed that the room was set up as a twin and was the only room available so he arranged for housekeeping to come and make the room a double. They arrived, took all the bedding away and said we will come back later and then just disappeared. We thought they would just push the beds together and swap the single duvets for a double. So late at night, really tired and we are waiting for housekeeping to make up the room.
As mentioned in previous reviews the rooms are small but comfortable. We kept getting in each others way and the person who is sleeping up against the wall has a bit of an obstacle course to get to the bathroom during the night. But it served its purpose and we slept comfortable and soundly.
We did not book breakfast so we were out early the following morning and managed to work out the route to walk which we could have taken the previous night. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which is convenient for the peak tram and ferry terminals. The number 12 bus takes you straight to the shops/restaurants and also the ferry terminal. The mid level escalators are great to return to the hotel. Just look out for the sign for Robinson Road , get off and turn left and follow the road around.
After a tiring day sight seeing we returned to the hotel at about 3.30pm to find our room had not be made up. We had to ask for fresh supplies which were provided but it was a nuisance - what is it with the house keeping service in this hotel or were we just unlucky?
The swimming pool area was small but OK to cool down after a hot day touring HK. Would be nice to have cushions on the sunbeds though to make them a little more comfortable. Towels are provided.
We needed to leave for the airport at about 4am and even at that time of the morning it was easy for the porter to flag a taxi - about 45 minutes and HK$300
Overall, a clean and comfortable place to stay and the location is excellent - rooms are just a little small.

I thought the Bishop Lei was TOPS!!

This was my 4th time to HK and I have always stayed with my family in Causeway Bay but the main reason for this trip was to visit friends who live in the Mid Levels - Hence I chose the Bishop Lei (I could walk to their apartment). The hotel was great, close to the escalator, supermarkets, and everything you need - heaps of taxis at the door as well as buses and a free hotel shuttle bus.

The staff was polite and accommodating and my room was always very clean (with great water pressure....). My bed was turned down and there were plenty of towels.

I chose the 'deluxe suite' and was put on the 11th floor. I had a lovely view of HK harbour and the room consisted of a lounge area, separate bedroom, and separate bathroom. For a solo traveller this was a lot of space - 2 flat screens, 2 air cons, and very good free wireless in the room.

I certainly can't fault the BL in anyway during my 5 night stay.

A weekend in Hong Kong ( Thursday night to Sunday afternoon) was on the cards after a business trip to Taiwan. This being the my first time out of the airport at HK, I checked everything up really well.

I was told to go to the Bishop Lei due to its proximity to the Synagogue and the Mid-Level Escalator. It is a 6 minute walk to the synagogue and a 4 minute walk to the Mid levels escalator. ( A supermarket is 5 minutes walk away and Central station is 12 minutes walk away).

Check in was smooth, the room was small, but more than enough to swing a cat around in. The room was clean and comfortable. Wireless internet is free, but not very stable. It cut off lots of times.

The pool was closed on the Friday due to a thunder and lightening storm, and I never got another chance to check the other sports facilities.

I did not eat in the restaurant.

The staff were very helpful.

I will definitely stay there again the next time that I am in HK.

I stayed at Bishop Lei for a few nights this past February and I have to see I was overly impressed.

Lodging in Hong Kong typically fits into a few categories.

A: Characteristically overcrowded, unorganized, and disgusting budget lodging (i.e. Chungking Mansions)

B: Medium priced hotels which are in terrible locations in away from the harbor.

C: Luxury hotels that are terribly overpriced and in which you have to sell one (or both) of your kidneys to afford.

Bishop Lei fits nicely in between A and B. More expensive then the dodgy budget accommodations that are peppered all over Kowloon, but not overwhelmingly so that it is unaffordable----as it is slightly cheaper than the average middle level hotels in the city with supreme comfort and a solid location on the HK side.

It is clean and comfortable and the staff was always helpful whenever there were any questions we had even late at night. The rooms, although small are cozy and nicely appointed. To be honest, you don't need a lot of space because there is so much to do in HK that you don't want be spending your time in your hotel room anyways.

The location on Robinson Road is on the Hong Kong Island side of the harbor and is not too far of a walk from Lan Kwai Fong and all it's nightlife glory as well as the great restaurants and shopping of the Central area. The Central and Hong Kong MRT stops are about a 15 minute walk down towards the harbor. Both can get you pretty much anywhere you need to go in the city and the HK MRT stop links up with the Airport Express line as well. If the walk doesn't suit you then there are usually an abundance of cabs throughout the area.

If you are looking for a quality, cost-effective, and pleasant stay in Hong Kong, I would definitely consider Bishop Lei.

I have grumbled about Bishop Lei in the past but have returned because of the superb location away from the busy areas but with easy access to them. On this visit we had a basic bay view room with a queen sized bed of excellent quality. All the rooms here have been refurbished and the improvements are excellent with lovely fittings and furnishing. The rooms are not large but ours was entirely sufficient. And what made our vist special was the service, arriving at 9 am with the intention of dumping our bags and returning later we were offered a room immediately at no extra charge. The refurb extends to the dining room where now a greatly improved breakfast is offered..

Not sure what some of the previous reviewers expected at this price. Check in and check out were polite and efficient. My standard double room was indeed small but cleverly fitted out to maximize the space. Comfy double bed and thick white duvet, good towels and wall mounted TV. Small wardrobe that you have to use so as to stash your case as out of the way as possible. In-room safe deposit box. Small but well fitted bathroom; more than enough hot water in my shower. Step out the front door and turn right and a 5m walk brings you to the mid-level escalator. All the great breakfast choices/places you could ask for on the way down. Turn right and you are 5m from the zoo and 10m from the tram path down to the Peak Tram station. On Robinson Road are endless cheap metered taxis if you don't want to walk. H$21 to Hong Kong Airport Rail Terminal and H$45-50 to the Peak. (Queue for Peak Tram in evening for sunset and city light up is horrendous - take a cab. Tram ticket H$36/person).

Conclusion? Don't stay here if you want 4/5 star facilities like gym/pool/bar/restaurants /perfect english speaking concierge. Do stay here if all you want is a clean place to sleep and shower after enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of Hong Kong.
