“Great hotel for mid-range budget”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

We stayed in a deluxe room. It was pleasant and clean. The room was small, but not as small as most mid-range priced hotel rooms in Hong Kong. We had very reliable free wi-fi. We tried the complimentary walking tours of the Jade and Temple Street markets, but were a bit disappointed by these tours as they just consisted of the hotel concierge walking us to the location of the markets. However the concierge desk were very helpful at giving us information about local dining options, nearby supermarkets, attractions and public transport. The hotel was in a fantastic location. It was a few minutes from the train station and bus stops. It was about 20 minutes walk to the Starr Ferry Terminal (5 minutes by bus). It was about 15 minutes walk to Mongkok and 5 minutes by bus. Overall, it was a great central location. I traveled with my Mum and they gave her a complimentary birthday cake on her birthday.

The Eaton is a pleasant mid range hotel with the cleanliness and service one should expect from a hotel in this price range. It is conveniently located close to the metro stations and a relatively easy walk to the harbor. The food and jade markets are only a few minutes walk.
A word of warning would be that the drink prices are excessive and the roof top pool was quite cold!

We stayed in one of Eatons new family rooms and found them to be excellent. You effectively get two separate bedrooms with up to three single beds in one room comprising murphy bunk beds that disappear into the wall and a sofa bed. The other room had a queen. We thought it was one of the best designed hotel rooms we'd ever stayed in. Clean, modern, sleek and functional and a great change from the standard hotel room format. There were two huge widescreen tvs built into the wall in each bedroom. The bathroom was modern with one of those fantastic rainforest shower heads. This is our new favourite hotel in HK!

We stayed in another hotel in Kowloon on a one night stopover on the way out to Sydney and that was very good. However it was difficult to find anywhere open to get a british type breakfast and the local restaurants seemed to be very pricey for evening food. The Tourist Info office were really helpful and knowledgeable and they sent us to a cafe where we could get ham and eggs.
The first stopover hotel didn't have the catering facilities that the Eaton had which is why we booked it for the 3 night stopover on the way back to the UK.
Originally because we stayed in Kowloon on the way out, we thought we would stay on Hong Kong Island for the return but in the end the Eaton Hotel, Kowloon, looked and sounded perfect for us foodwise, having three diferent resturants all offering different types of food. Getting to Hong Kong Island and around was so easy from there we knew we had made the right choice.
I am on a Wheat/Gluten Free diet and I like plain english food, the Eaton far excceded our expectations in that respect. We had paid for a continental breakfast in the room rate but we were told we could upgrade to a full buffet breakfast for 30 HK Dollars each [about £2.50!!] The buffet was great and had everything you would look for on a good hotel breakfast buffet. The omlette man was particularily pleasant and made lovely omlettes. Because the hotel has 3 restaurants and the Metro Grill providing english food we ate there each night. 2 of the nights we had 'A la Carte' which was very good and one night we had the 'All You Can Eat' buffet, which had superb quality food, Smoked Salmon, Duck, Beef, Lamb, salads, desserts including 'Creme Brulee' [which I can have] were just a few of the many choices. The only thing missing from the buffet was potatoes and I mentioned this on the hotel questionaire. There was some pasta but I can't eat that unless it is Gluten Free. We had plenty to eat so didn't really miss the potatoes. The meal prices were good we thought for a hotel, and there was 30% off the buffet for hotel guests.
The room was an unusual arrangement with seperate toilet and shower and a seperate sink in the bedroom. There was a curtain so that you could draw it and make all three private if you needed too. We didn't and found the arrangement to be quite useful to have seperate shower and toilet and sink. The bed was comfortable and had a reasonably firm matress which we both need. There was a fridge in the room too.
There is a outdoor pool and gym in the hotel and the pool was wonderful and so warm. I didn't use the gym but there were two massage chairs to use free too and they were so good it was like having a real massage.
The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful, someone in another review said that the concierge was a bit offhand. One of them was a bit abrupt like that, but in the main all the staff were great.
The transport system in Hong Kong is amazing and so cheap, we bought an Octopus Card each and could not believe the Train/ Bus/ Ferry fares. The train station is not far from the Eaton and it was so easy to get about. We had a trip up to the Peak and another day to The Big Budda, both trips were well worth a visit and very enjoyable. The cable car to Lantau Island where the Big Budda is, is the highest I have been on and had spectactular views. Maybe not so good if you don't like heights though.
This was our first visit to Hong Kong and we really loved it, it was cheaper for drinks, food ect than our usual stopover of Singapore. I did make the mistake of not putting on any mossie repellant spray as I have never needed it in Singapore. [similar climate] I got bitten 5 times, so I shall know in future.
We definately want to go back to Hong Kong and we will be back at the Eaton. It is just unfortunate that the airlines we used this time, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic don't match up to the service or food of Singapore Airlines who we have travelled with on all our other stopover trips and they don't go to Hong Kong.

Room is clean and they makeup the room daily. Though room is small but is spacious enough for one big luggage. It comes with bathtub! 10mins walk to Gordon MRT. You can shop along Nathan Road all the way down, then cross the streets continue to shop back to your hotel. Not suitable for family with young kids <6yrs old... it's tiring for them. Across the hotel is a small eatery and convenience store. Daily replenishment of mineral water. Shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer, kettle and tea are provided in the room.

Room Tip: We had a quiet room... stayed at 1611 opposite the lift.

We had a long wait for our room as we arrived early but as we had booked a club room we had access to the E club lounge. Would highly recommend booking this room category as the lounge is wonderful as are the lounge staff.

At 5.30 each evening they serve drinks and snacks for two hours and unlike many hotels with this type of lounge they are very generous and the service is exceptional. I can't remember how much extra this cost but between the lounge usage and the included breakfast, whatever it was it was worth it!

We also had a lovely room, albeit with a very ordinary outlook, this at least meant it was quiet. The beds are also very comfy. Tea and coffee making facilities were also a bonus.

Room Tip: If you are a poor sleeper ask for a room at the rear. These rooms are also cooler as they do not g...
