“lovely, but a bit generic & location not for all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2011

this is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, and we have attended a number of functions here. It's a lovely hotel, with all the extra touches you would expect for a Grand Hyatt. Pool gets crowded on a Sunday. The location? Well, depends what you are staying for. If you are going to the convention center, it is right next door. But if you are wanting shops and restaurants and HK atmosphere the Mandarin, Four Seasons, Island Shangrila or Upper House are in better locations. Having said that it's only $3USD in a taxi to get into central. It's not really in a walking friendly area. The lobby is a big, black marble and brass affair, and every time we go there we joke that we've been swept off to the middle east.

We had one of those bad to worse experiences at this hotel. I chose to stay here based on many good reviews & the family pool area was a big pull as we were traveling with our infant son. We were in transit on our way home to Sydney from London for 3 nights.
I will try & keep this brief. We booked a "Grand Hyatt King" expecting something special. The first room we were given was on the 10th floor (this hotel has about 60 floors...) and when we arrived the room was not made up. We were then given another room on a much higher floor, with sincere apologies. But we wondered why we had to experience a dirty room in order to be given a room on a higher level? This hotel has about 1000 rooms.
The room was small & pokey and the view was mainly of Kowloon and not much of the Harbour at all – so it was nice but not that special.
Unfortunately what they wont tell you when you book this hotel - is that at the moment (july 2011) it is surrounded by major "reclaiming harbor" renovations. (see photos) This means that there is construction noise from 7am-7pm each day and getting in and out of the hotel is unpleasant due to stand still traffic, noise and pollution. It was a disaster. The noise traveled up to the hotel. We were jet lagged so trying to rest during the morning – it was impossible. Only after several complaints and 2 further room changes were we moved to a much higher room on the other side of the hotel - but we basically had to completely loose the plot at them in order for them to move us to the more expensive side of the hotel to escape this noise. (Which we thought we had booked but obviously not)
The service was less than average, the room service was so bad and it was so expensive, and overall the hotel is one big rip off & they don't seem to care to look after western travelers. One of the rooms they tried to put us in smelt of cigarettes! We were traveling with an infant for goodness sakes!
Unfortunately we struck very bad weather while we were here, it rained the whole time, so we did not get to utilize the lovely pool area once, but however, even if we wanted to the noise & dust from the construction would have made it unbearable. Oh how we regretted not booking the four seasons.

Room Tip: The more money you spend the better view you will get - and watch it because this hotel is so over p...

The Grand Hyatt in Hongkong is among my favourite hotels in the world over a decade.
It is neither the newest nor the trendiest hotel in Hongkong, but I have been choosing it for each of my trip to Asia for its exceptional/thoughtful service from the concierge to the Grand Club. The Grand Hyatt in Hongkong is one of rare places where I feel at home....

I stayed at this hotel on the way back from working in South Korea, and was really impressed.

The room was a really good size and had a huge window with great views over the harbour.

There was a large bathroom with bath and separate shower, and the hotel had provided a range of items such as bathrobes, loofas, cosmetics and toothbrushes.

The staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant, and although I didn't have chance to eat breakfast there myself, I heard from other guests that it was of good quality.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel, and only regret that I didn't stay for longer.

great location and vey good concierge and taxi service to get you where you need to be. Harbour and Central view rooms are great but inward looking rooms at the back are not - you're looking onto a service apartment block. The buffers are great and service is always terrific.

Room Tip: Request a Central (city) view room

This one definitely says luxury.

From the moment your pull into the hotel, till the time you get in your room, and on to the fine dining experiences. The Grand Hyatt is the flagship of the chain, and they could not have picked a better hotel to bestow that honor to. Marble lobby...huge fresh flower arrangements...impeccable service.

And the view...if you are lucky enough, you'll get one of the harbor view rooms. I usually sleep with the curtains open so I don't waste a minute of the world class view.

Room Tip: Be nice and be a frequent traveller

This hotel is perfect for both business and pleasure. Breakfast was fantastic, pool area (largest hotel pool in HK) was great and rooms were very comfortable. Would definately go again.
