As a resident of Hong Kong and well-seasoned luxury traveller, I was slightly disappointed with the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong.

We booked a twin-bedded Grand Harbour View Club Room. It turns out that this is not one of the newly-renovated oriental-themed rooms, but one of the older, western contemporary-designed rooms. Nonetheless, the design of the accommodation is very aesthetically pleasing, however, the space offered is somewhat small when compared to other deemed 5-star hotels charging this price in the city. The room was 38 sq and the entrance area is quite squashy. To place the extra-bed in the room, the small sofa was taken out. The bathroom is very traditional and quite beautiful; there is excellent water pressure. The storage space and study are very functional and there is adequate space to put suitcases. An iron is offered.

On the other hand, the bathroom ventilation was poor and dampness and fog took ages to clear. The climate control of the bedroom was not very good either and the room still felt warm when setting it to the very coldest setting. The sleep quality in this room was very bad, the blankets (under the high thread count sheets) were not made from down or normal feathers, but of artificial compounds, this caused us to sweat significantly in the night, and made sleeping very unpleasant, especially when the room was already set to the coldest temperature. In summation we slept very badly.

The view from harbour-view accommodation in the hotel is incredible and you have a very good view of Victoria Harbour and the many skyscrapers of the city.

As we stayed in a club room, we had access to the Grand Club. Our check- in was smoothly conducted here. I must say that this club lounge is very good. The service is very attentive and drinks are brought to you at all times of the day. The club offers quite an impressive range of culinary choices in the hors d'oeuvres hours and there is a nice range of breads, cold cut, cheese, fruit, and of course excellent odeurves, there was also a range of sweet choices too. The club also serves a filling breakfast, with as much variety as most high standard hotel coffee shops have. The breakfast food and service is excellent. At other times of the day where most hotel club lounges don’t serve anything, the Grand Club will still provide an drinks on require and cupcakes, cookies and fruit and continually available.

The coffee shop of the hotel is very over-priced, even compared to other renowned 5-star hotels in the city. As the hotel can benefit from businesspeople since it is just by the convection and exhibition centre, they charge very steep prices, higher than that in the Mandarin Oriental or Four Seasons. This is quite unjustified, as the food quality does not match that of those hotels. The food was relatively good, service is good too. But I must say that there is very-bad value for money in the coffee shop.

I highly recommend going to the Tiffin Lounge for afternoon tea, this is not necessary if you have a club room, however, they serve a large afternoon tea set which is accompanied by a large selection of unique ice-cream and ice-cream cakes, as well as freshly prepared treats such waffles, in contrast to the coffee shop, this has very good value for money at around HK$300 for the tea set and the sweet buffet.

The hotel has a relatively good location, it is adjacent to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Cente, it is a 10 minute walk from the Wanchi MTR subway station, and a walk from the Wanchai market if you are a tourist. It is a very good location that lends the hotel with a stunning view of the true city centre and Kowloon. However, if you want an more downtown location I would highly recommend the Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental, which are right in the heart of Central District, Finance Street and all the luxurious shops and restaurants.

As the weather was cold when we stayed we did not use the pool. However, the pool facilities appear inviting and there is a large amount of seating and outdoor dinning space. There is a very nice minimalist garden on the route to the pool.

All in all, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is a high standard hotel with appealing design, boasting beautiful harbour views. If you are staying in the non-renovated accommodation it is quite unpleasant and the sleep quality is bad. The coffee shop is overpriced. Yet, the Grand Club is excellent with its service and culinary delights.

However, in my eyes the hotel does not reach the absolute 5-star criteria; there are no fresh fruits, the complimentary water brand is disappointing and the toiletries are unimpressive, the turn-down service is at a time when most people are back in their rooms and there was cigarette ash on the bathroom floor when we checked-in to our non-smoking room. Nevertheless, it is still quite a good hotel. I still recommend a stay in the Four Seasons or Island Shangri-La, as these two hotels barely cost anymore than this overpriced Hyatt, and yet offer more luxury and convenience for little more in price. They provide full-scale complimentary amenities and welcome gifts and are better maintained and cleaned.

If you are to stay in the Grand Hyatt, I highly recommend you book a room with access to the Grand Club.

Service standard is unpeccable. One of the key paramter of good hotel in HK is accessibility as availability of cabs becomes nightmare during peak hours. This comes close to Four Seasons in IFC. Breakfast spread is very good especially for non-chinese visitor. Views of harbour are outstanding.

Room Tip: Choose higher floor with harbour facing

My first visit to Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong....5 days in Hong Kong,2 days in Singapore and then back to Hong Kong for 1 more day. We stayed at the Four Seasons the last time in Hong Kong and a Friend had suggested Grand Hyatt this time. Arrived after 14 hours on the plane, it is always a true test on the 'Service". My Check in at the front desk was pleasant, even with the multiple rude interruptions by other guests while i was still checking- in! The staff kept it together with a "Smile and very professional" Concierge was Extremely helpful too(especially Simon) who helped in locating a Chinese Pharmacy near the Hotel late evening, he even called them first to make sure they were still open. (attention to details!).
The Rooms are Newly renovated which is Nice! The view was just ok was expecting something more of the water. The Huge negative thing was the NOISY guests staying on the same floor! who kept knocking on my door early morning (didn't speak her language so not sure why she kept knocking?)
Thank you VERY much to the Manager with our seamless booking at Grand Hyatt, We have decided to stay 1 more Night after our return from Singapore! Glad we made the choice in Staying Here!

Room Tip: View on the 30th floor is Amazing!

Was in HK on a business trip and it was my first time staying here. Truly had the best front desk service who were articulate, polite, friendly and even a little witty in conversation! I was thoroughly impressed.

On the cons and to a lower degree really was the location. It wasn't too convenient to get to the mtr, then again it was a cheap hkd22 taxi ride to my office in Central. The room was average for a hotel of this standard, clean and a very comfortable bed but there was nothing spectacular about the design. I'm not sure if I had a renovated room.

Service was excellent and I will come back.

The Grand Hyatt is like many 5 star hotels in Asia: spacious and lavishly fitted, with very well presented rooms where everything works and the sort of impeccable service that you only get in this part of the world. It's a very nice hotel to be in.

Its location next to the convention centre means that it feels primarily like a business hotel. If you are travelling on business and not attending a conference you'll need to make up your own mind whether the location suits you - for me it's very convenient but it does feel a little bit removed from the centre. It's also worth bearing in mind that it currently has a building site on the harbour next to it and during my stay the building activity started fairly early and carried on until late evening. Allied to that, the hotel is currently undertaking a room renovation programme. I received a warning about potential noise during the daytime, although this didn't affect me.

So if you are concerned about building noise or want to be in the heart of the town, this may not be the best choice for you at the moment.

Room Tip: My Harbour View room overlooked the harbour building site so it's probably best to decline an &q...

Greetings. Thank you for taking the time to share your recent stay experience with us. We appreciate your understanding regarding the temporary condition of the hotel - guestrooms renovation and the works outside of the hotel. We trust that when the external works is completed, our guests will benefit from the convenience of access to anywhere in Hong Kong even easier than now. Hope that on your next stay, you can book into high floors so that you can take full advantage of the beautiful harbour views. We thank you again for choosing to stay with us.
