A bit sterile though

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Nov 2014via mobile
The Grand Hyatt is what one expects it to be. Impeccable in all aspects. Professional managed and run all the way down to the room service and house keeping. Hotel is well styled with interesting features, the rooms, well, Grand Hyatt. Food is excellent, and the coffee quite drinkable, but the continuous almost automated enquiries if everything is alright, somewhat disturbing and too sterile. So due to coffee and that 9 out of 10.

With it's great views of the Harbour, upgraded rooms and ATTENTIVE staff, this is ALWAYS A GOOD CHOICE when staying in Hong Kong. I make it a point to try to get into this property every time I need to stay in Hong Kong for and period of time.

A lovely hotel with very helpful and professional staff. The bathroom in my room was gorgeous and well stocked. I recommend that you try to request a harbour view room though. Mine was facing out on the pool area and looking at another building. This hotel is very good for those using the convention centre facilities but is a ten minute walk to the nearest MTR. Taxis seem to be in short supply at the moment so if you need one to get to the airport checkin at Central Station, I suggest that you allow for a 30 minute wait on taxis or use the note car. You will also have to queue up outside the front of the hotel. I recommend to the hotel that some seats should be placed at the queue area for those that cannot stand up during the wait (older people, pregnant ladies etc) or perhaps a queue ticket system so that guests can wait in the aircondioned lobby and be called when their taxi arrives.

I just wrote a very unhappy and disappointing review of our partners dinner at the Waterside Terrace at the Island Shangri La. I wanted to share a much much more pleasant experience that I had at breakfast the next morning at the Grand Hyatt main cafe / restaurant.

I was still a little annoyed at paying over 1,000 hkd per head for some of the worst service at a decent hk hotel that I've ever had.

One of my partners brought his family to breakfast. His 8 year old daughter is super duper cute, witty and smart as a whip. She instantly put a smile on my face.

Beyond the cute kids, the service at the Grand Hyatt guaranteed that I kept smiling all morning. The food was fine, nothing ground breaking but perfectly edible. The service was fantastic! The staff paid attention to us, made sure we had everything we needed and the tone of communications was like the way things used to be at the Peninsula before the handover (ok I'm really old...). This was a particularly pleasant surprise since breakfast was a buffet!

At one point my partner asked his seven year old son to get some orange juice for him which required him to ask someone where the juice station was. His son apparently was very nervous (he's pretty shy) and when we saw him on his return path to our table, it was clear that the restaurant manager had accompanied him all the way there and all the way back!

I've never tipped so much for a breakfast buffet in my life and it was worth every penny!

The Grand Hyatt is one of ( if not ) the best hotel in HKG. The G H is a great place to stay located very close to Wan Chai and Central. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is good. Service of staff is of great quality and you feel welcome from the moment you step in to the hotel.

Great hotel within walking distance of Wan Chai district and having easy access to transportation of other points of interest. Friendly staff, and clean rooms. A lot of construction to look out through the windows, but nonetheless great views of the harbor.
