“Amazing hotel for business or pleasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2010

I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong several times this year both for business and pleasure, and both in the main hotel and also in the smaller “hotel within a hotel” inside the Plateau Spa. By comparison, for business reasons I have also stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons this year, and I have to say that I greatly prefer the Grand Hyatt for four main reasons: the public spaces, the spa/pool/recreation, the dining options and, most important, the dedication and care of the staff which is both top caliber and truly genuine. I feel like they really want to help you and want your stay to be looked back on with fondness. They go the extra mile. I have had some fairly average service at Mandarin Oriental, and some slightly better service at Four Seasons, but the service at Grand Hyatt has eclipsed either of those other two properties.

In terms of public spaces, the sounds of the jazz floating through the lobby and the care that is taken in maintaining the facilities provides for a relaxing, wonderful experience. I feel like walking into the Grand Hyatt is like walking into a scene in a movie. The public spaces are so opulent as to be almost breathtaking: huge winding marble stairs and columns; absolutely enormous arrangements of fresh flowers; intuitive design – its just simply a delight to walk into this place. This just gets better as you go upstairs to discover Plateau Spa and the enormous pool and sundeck. I’ve had 3 massages at Plateau this year, in all cases, highly professional and skilled masseuses putting me at complete relaxation and buffing out every knot in my back. True pleasure.

In terms of dining, my absolutely favorite is Kaetsu; this is the freshest sashimi I’ve experienced outside of Tokyo and the place is beautiful in design. But I can say good things about each of the other restaurants, too, and it’s nice to have such a large selection inside the hotel, particularly when I’m on business and may have only a short time to eat and no time to go exploring. Speaking of being on business, let me mention that I have had very good business services here including, importantly, a fast and stable internet connection from the room. I can count on working here.

This is my go-to place in Hong Kong for business or pleasure, and I can highly recommend the hotel. A+.

This was my second visit to the Grand Hyatt over the last 2 years. The hotel has a good location next to the harbour but a short taxi ride away from all the shopping and attraction. The hotel common area is very grand and lavish and the sevice is very good. The rooms though look a bit outdated now, especially if you compare the other hotels around - Conrad, Marriott, Shagrila. The rooms i guess have not be upgraded in a while now and it shows a bit. Mind you, the rooms a very clean and spacious and the bathroom is lovely. Almost 70% of the rooms have a view of the harobour and that can be a plus. The pool is small and found it very close to the restaurant and the common sitting area.

Overall, its a good grand hotel next to the harbour but in terms of luxury, there could better around but only marginally.

Fantastic harbor view, big room, great breakfast and room service. What's not to like?
If the bill is on my tap, I think it is pretty expensive (hotels in HK are generally expensive) but Hyatt does delivers.

The aptly named Grand Hyatt indeed does most things on a grand scale, from its impressive public spaces to its supersized swimming pool. It may be somewhat living on its reputation though, as some of the rooms don't feel particularly contemporary, and a number of the 'harbour view' rooms have an even better view on the adjacent convention center's roof.
It remains a well-regarded address, with an excellent club lounge and, when staying in one of the better rooms, either through a suitable outlay, elite upgrade, or repeated custom, makes for an enjoyable stay.

Location: The location of the hotel is good, in the Wanchai area, next to the convention center. The walk to the MRT station is about 10 minutes (you can cut through the street from the front entrance or walk through the convention center and walkway using the 2nd floor exit by the meeting rooms). Wanchai itself is interesting and has enough good restaurants around, but the metro ride to Central and Causeway Bay is quick. I prefer to stay on Hong Kong island side as oppose to Kowloon, but I know that a lot of tourists prefer Kowloon so this wouldn't be the best location if you want to hang around on Tsim Sha Tsui.

Service: Check in was excellent. I forgot the name of the receptionist checking us in but she was gracious and extremely welcoming. The staff in the Regency Club was across the board professional and pleasant.

Food: We only had breakfast in the Regency Club. The food was good, not memorable. Chinese selection in the club was not very good, but the western choices were nice.

Gym/Pool: The gym was very nice, new and complete equipment. Again, gym reception/staff were very professional and helpful. The outdoor pool looks very nice but we didn't use. There's a big sauna in the locker room.

Room: If you have a room looking across the bay to Kowloon, it's breathtaking, especially at night with all the lights. The room itself is a good size, but not large. They have June Jacobs products if you like that. But the view really trumps all.

amazing hotel, everything about it was flawless...views from room were astonishing...you deffinitely need to get Harbour view room...we had to close the curtains so we could get ready to go out cause the views was out of this world!
we met someone we knew in HK so were able to see the real HK which i feel is something you miss when in these types of hotels..
i would love to stay here again if i was back in HK but its so pricey! i was really lucky cause my uncle paid though...but if you can afford it this is the place to stay.
dont but anything in the hotel you will regret it as you can walk 2 mins down the street and get whatever you want for a fraction of the price and see HK for what it really is!

From the moment I stepped out of the car arriving from the airport and greeted by one of the managers I knew that the Grand Hyatt had not lost its touch from my last visit two years ago.
Yes I am a Diamond member with their FF program but from watching other people being served I frankly think they got service as good as I did. Simply professional and attentive.
My suite was not ready (8:30am) so the manager escorted me to the club room to enjoy breakfast and then returned 15 minutes later to say the room was ready. Now when was the last time you had a request for an early check in ready at 9am in the US and the room was actually ready? Or that the staff came to you personally to sit at your breakfast table to check you in so that I did not have to go stand in line at the front desk?
Had this been a US property (Hyatt included) I would have been told the room is not ready and come back in two hours and "manage to entertain yourself in the meantime".
The hotel market in Asia knows how to treat its valued customers from begining to end.
The room view was fabulous and the club room served excellent quality food. A full breakfast and enough food in the evening that we did not even go out for dinner.
Marbled bathrooms and wood paneling throughout.
I could walk to the ferry to Kowloon and the hotel was close to major bus lines.
No complaints not one and that is very unusual for my postings.
