InterContinental Grand Stanford
Ranked #24 of 726 Hotels in Hong Kong
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 21 May 2012

The Grand Stanford is perfectly located with stunning Hong Kong views - make sure to get a room with a view it is worth the price. Booked club intercontinental access and the service and breakfast buffet are impeccable. Being from Switzerland but living in the US we could not get enough from the fresh proper bread in the morning - just like at home...
Free wifi comes included with club access and is very solid and fast. Everything is in easy walking distance: 15 minutes to star ferry terminal, same to Harbor shopping mall and an easy HK$80 cab ride to Wan-Chai if need be. The sightseeing tour bus stops right in front of the hotel. Lobby a bit dated but still grand and employees are extremely friendly. Our room 1142 is brand new (on some floors there seems to still be some renovation) and features some great details like a top opening safe in a pull out drawer (don't we all hate to crawl into closets to access our belongings as most hotels place them there), a built in power data and adapter strip next to desk, flat screen TV, iPod/iPhone docking station, ample seating space, enough shelf and storage space and very efficient bathroom. Not to mention the nice linen and oh: did I mention the view??.... Thanks for a great stay team Intercontinental....

We chose the Intercontinental Grand Stanford Hotel for our first visit to Hong Kong as we wanted a nice hotel at a reasonable price. We had booked our side harbor premier room well in advance and were not disappointed with our selection.

The hotel website had given warning about on going renovations and the possibility of construction noise for the period of time including our visit, but we heard almost no noise in our room. The side harbor view gave a clear shot of the harbor with almost no obstructions and we were more than happy with our room.

Check in was very easy and the front desk staff and front door personnel were very helpful. Our room was on the 12th floor and we had two beds in the room. The all white bedding was very clean and beds were very comfortable. Our room had both a shower and bathtub and had many complimentary toiletries. We had several bottles of complimentary water provided each day.

One day we had the "do not disturb" sign up until well in the evening, but after dinner, there was an attendant who made sure our room had fresh towels and that we were comfortable. A free newspaper was at our door each day, and chocolates before bedtime.

We made use of the travel desk in the hotel, and got tickets to Disneyland as well as transportation to and from the park for the three of us for approx $150.00 USD. The area is about 6 blocks or so away from Nathan Road, but we had no objections to walking over there. We found many nearby restaurants that suited our needs.

The hotel is right on Victoria Harbor separated by a highway with a pedestrian bridge at the hotel. We walked across the bridge and down to the Avenue of the Stars. In addition to that, we took the high speed ferry boat over to Macau which was quite enjoyable. About an hour ferry ride.

All in all, we enjoyed our visit to Hong Kong. We were very pleased with the Intercontinental Grand Stanford. Their breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious, and the only negative that I would mention, was the price of the buffet. The charge was about $34 USD (including service charge), which was high in my opinion. Oh, and did I mention the roof top pool? Be sure to bring your swim suit as you won't want to miss out on that.

Room Tip: Side Harbor Premier rooms are just as good as full harbor view.

Beware there a 2 Intercons in HK. The other one has much better location fronting the harbour. This is very much a level below the other one. Renovation work in progress now. But still an ok hotel in an ok location.

Room Tip: Renovation work happening. Be sure to get a room away from the noise.

good comfort and never a dull moment speaking with hotel staff. peaceful and quiet being further away from main TST. good size and very conducive work corner.. about 10 mins (fastwalk) away from the nearest mtr entrance; not the most convenient especially on rainy days..another 5 mins to the mtr platform.

Great beds, really comfortable, probably one of the best beds. Reasonable prices for the rooms. Location is ok, not deep in TST but close enough. It's not as stuffy as the 5 stars on the Hk side. Loved this hotel. And if you are in HK, you won't stay in the hotel much as there is too much to see. Stayed here 6 years ago.

It's been a while since my last stay here and not too much has changed. The Intercontinental is a very nice hotel and the rooms are being renovated, so expect some noise during the day through the end of June.

Service is good although as a Priority Club member I was surprised to be in a room with two doubles when I booked a King. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

I do have to agree with a couple of other reviewers that the location isn't really convenient, especially if you live on the MTR as a means to get around the city. It's a good 2-3 blocks walk to the TST East station, and another two blocks underground. I may pick a more convenient location for future trips but if coming for any other reason, this is a nice hotel.

Only reason I stayed here was because I attended a conference at the hotel. It was comfortable enough, with two large super single beds in the room, but there's no way I could sleep in two beds in one night. The room was surprisingly large, long and narrow with plenty of old-fashioned dark wood finishings. It felt quite depressing with the dark wood, yellow light and beige carpet. The view out of the little window in my room was the angle of the other side of the hotel.

The bathroom was very old-fashioned - essentially a vanity/sink opposite a bathtub with shower, behind a clean but old shower curtain. For a five-star place, it certainly needed a facelift.

The staff were kind and very sweet when I checked in. Discovered to my horror that I'd taken a remote control from my other hotel room and they checked with the other place and managed to get it back to its rightful owner. However, the arrangement for the transfer to the airport express train wasn't very efficient. Staff had no idea when the next shuttle would turn up, making it hard to decide to just take a taxi to the station and not waste anymore time. They just told me to sit and wait, not very reassuring at all.

The location itself is not the best. It's walking distance from Tsim Sha Tsui East MTR station, which itself is walking distance from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. Added together, this means that getting off at TST station translates to a very long walk with your shopping if you plan to take the underground. Also, not a lot of food options in the area.
