“Great Hotel in Great Location!”
Reviewed 5 January 2010

The location of this hotel is great. It is quieter than the Nathan Road / Canton Road area, and its great to come back to a bit of peace after a day out at the shops. They have a free shuttle regularly going to the main shopping road, however plenty of shops and eating houses directly in this area aswell and we only caught the shuttle once to the ferry terminal as the rest of the time we just wandered along the promemnade into town - not far at all on a nice day.
We had a harbour view room and it was fabulous. So much going on, on the harbour that you could sit for hours and watch the boats go by and the view at night with the Christmas lights was nice, although best display is right outside the hotel in TST square. They LOVE Christmas! We also looked down on a 'mini' container wharf, which wasn't that attractive but interesting all the same when the barges came in for processing. The room was very nice and I have to say out of the 3 hotels we stayed at this trip the staff here were the best. They are friendly and very helpful and always greeted you in the corridor no matter who it happened to be. We also arrived extremely early 8.30am and they managed to get a room ready for us by 9am, well before offical check in time which was fantastic as we had just come off a 11 hour flight. We also had the breakfast included in our room rate and WOW - there is something for everyone at the buffet. Plenty of fruit, cereal, pastries, hot, cold food - what ever you want. Well worth it when heading out for a day of shopping. We also dined in the hotel chinese restaurant and found it to be very resonably priced and delicous. The hotel has a nice welcoming feel to it and I would return again for sure.

Our first trip to Hong Kong and we were nervous as to where to stay. This is an upmarket hotel in the business district and is very convenient to Hong Kong Island Ferry Terminal, Shopping, Sight Seeing, etc.. Rooms were new and clean. Service very good, except wake-up calls and some translation issues.

We stayed 4 nights at the Intercontinental Grand Stanford, The Location was excellent right on the harbour and promenade, the breakfast was very good, the pool area was very nice and the staff very dedicated and friendly. Our room was spacious with King Size bed and flat TV. We got a late check out at departure as well - so all in all we totally liked the hotel.

We booked this hotel through Ratestogo and got a reduced rate of £100 a night. As the first stop on our Honeymoon we arrived on Christmas day feeling tired and a little home sick. When we got out of the car a member of staff greeted us by name (we took a hotel car for around £40 from the airport to the hotel as a treat).
The same staff member then checked us in a was terribly polite, efficient and welcoming. As we waited a choir came out into reception and started singing Christmas songs.

Unfortunately they didn't have a Kingsized bed available so offered us a room with a harbor side view with two beds in for the first night and a free upgrade for the second night to compensate.

The hotel was clean and the staff as well trained, polite and organised as I have ever come across in many years of business travel worldwide.

The other point of note is if you want to be away from the madness and sight grubby feel of Central then staying in Kowloon as a good idea as you stil have things to do and bars and restaurants on hand. When you want to visit Central just jump on the Ferry and then return to the clean and calm of Kowloon afterwards.

The bus transfer offered by the hotel from/to the airport was a luxury coach, much quicker than they said it would be (good practice by the staff - under promise and over deliver) The transfer was around £8 each (depending on exchange rate) and we had almost the whole coach to ourselves.

Worth noting there are two Intercontinental Hotels in Hong Kong and this review is for the Intercontinental Grand Stamford.

Where to begin, from the moment we arrived and walked into the foyer we felt we were at home; it was that welcoming and comfortable.
We booked a Harbour View Twin Room, we were offered an upgrade to a Suite (at a cost, which was reasonable) but we did not take the offer - and quite honestly we are greatful for it as the room we had was perfect. We were expecting the side Harbour View Room but were pleasantly surprsed to get the front on Harbour View Room - just check your booking to ensure it is front on.
We stay at the Intercontinental in WA a lot, so we were already expecting service and amenities of a high level but compared to this hotel the one in Perth is a 1 Star.
I find it hard to find anything negative to say or even advise to better the service, positive are:
Doorman was very nice and helpful with our luggage and there was always someone at the door when we were going out and coming back.
Check-In was efficient and painless, the woman was friendly and helpful.
Everyone was english speaking, also with comprehension was what was being discussed, I found that was the same in Beijing.
Breakfast was - WOW - catered for every ethnic requirement, which we even tried.
Buffet Dinner was also great - loved the scissors for the crab.
Service in the Restaurants was impeccable.
The Room - devine, nothing else is necessary to say about the room - except as a fussy sleeper the bed was perfect.
When we turned the TV on it has a Welcome addressed to us - just a little touch that made it special.
Room Service was great - had Fish & Chips (I know it was boring, but first meal played it safe) - loved the "I" stamped into the butter - another small touch.
HouseKeeping women were even nice.

Could go on more about the hotel but I think my opinion is clear, if going to Hong Kong stay at the Grande Stanford Intercontinental and not the one at the Boardwalk as it is over priced and quite honestly the Grande is in a great location, you can either:
Walk down to the Boardwalk to the Ferry or just an evening walk to the light show, you can even stay in your room and watch the light show.
Walk down to the Harbour side; there is a Cafe strip - best food I have ever had and the best service ever, and I mean ever.
Walk down Mody Street to Nathan Road (15mins only), the Hotel does have Shuttle to Nathan Road but we enjoyed the walk and the countless shops on the way.
The shopping accross the road from the Hotel is never ending, alleys and shopping centres the many.

My opinion is clear - Go to Hong Kong and stay at the Grande Stanford.

The location of this hotel is not the best - but, our overall experience was positive. We stayed on the club floor. Check-in was super fast and efficient, our room was large, the bed was comfortable (had the most wonderful pillows I've ever slept on!), comfortable chair with ottoman and reading lamp, nice bathroom amenities, The club lounge was terrific - a wide variety of well prepared foods with friendly and helpful staff, with a beautiful view of the harbor. The main lobby is a bit boisterous, and I wouldn't describe the decor as understated.
