Harbour Plaza Metropolis

Hotel lobby is relatively large compare to other hotels I've been to in Hong Kong. The number of people working at guest services in the lobby was about 6-8 which is more than I've seen at other hotels in Hong Kong. Check in and check out was fast.

The first time to the hotel may be easier if you take a taxi especially if you're not familiar to Hunghom District. Also if you take a taxi please ensure you have the Chinese characters for the hotel - "都會海逸酒店". My friends does not speak Cantonese and the taxi driver drove them to Harbour Grand Kowloon in Hunghom (about 5-8 mins taxi ride). This other hotel is also part of the Harbour Plaza group of hotels.

The numbers of available elevators were sufficient and fast in moving hotel guests up and down the hotel. When I stayed in the hotel I was provided with one of their disability room for people with wheel chair thus the room was a bit larger and bathroom was larger too. I had a balcony, kitchenette, and full size fridge.

Walk to Hunghom MTR station was about 3 mins from hotel. Shortcut to MTR station is access from shopping mall and then the overpass.

Staying here at present. Overall it's good, however, the hotel needs to address certain areas as they will put guests off if ignored. Main one for me is the pool area - generally needs renewing. I find the staff going round trying to clean the pool side with a scrubbing cloth and bottle of ?.... The cloth is held up and looks filthy! This goes on frequently - and whilst guests are swimming. The sides look grubby and I would not go in the pool ad it does not look clean around it. The entrance to the pool area is tatty and off putting. There is never anyone to serve drinks at the bar. It is all tired looking. As are the corridor carpets, management is very penny pinching and money grabbing. Staff are very helpful and hard working. Exterior, especially at the pool needs redoing. Also, the new spa - it seems seedy and caters for men...... Not good. Pull up your socks, there are plenty of other hotels.

This was our second stay at the Harbour Plaza Metropolis and our third visit to Hong Kong. We love the city and were thrilled to have the opportunity to go back - previous visits were roughly 2008 at the Harbour Plaza for three days again and in 2006 we stayed at the Excelsior on Hong Kong Island. This hotel is a favourite value option with Virgin Holidays which is how we came across it last time and this time we booked independently which was just as easy.
The Harbour Plaza is not as central as some (and the price reflects this) but the hop-on, hop-off shuttle bus every 20 minutes is fantastic and you are only six minutes away from a drop-off at the Tsim Sha Tsui metro station on the corner of Nathan Road. There is also a metro station virtually next to the hotel (Hung Hom) as an alternative and it takes no time to get across to Hong Kong Island or the markets of Mongkok from either. I'm not sure we've ever spent much time in our rooms whilst in Hong Kong and so the fact that it is clean, friendly and the breakfast plentiful is absolutely fine and I think the harbour view upgrade is worth the money. This time we upgraded to a suite with little living room and kitchen but still didn't spend much time there as there's so much to see. We took retired parents with us and they were as smitten as we are.
To my mind, Kowloon is the more interesting part of Hong Kong to be in as a tourist and we wouldn't choose to stay on Hong Kong island again. This would definitely be our first choice of hotel should we get the chance to go again and I desperately hope we do...

This is a royal place and Value for money stay. Good service, food and facilities. The rooms are innovatively designed and spacious. The hotel has a shopping mall and has a good view of the harbour. Is very close to the major attractions.

We visited the hotel during the last week of April 2011 and stayed there for a good 5 nights. Given the fact that most hotels in Hong Kong have extra small rooms, we were not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised.

The hotel boasts of a large lobby area and when you enter it there is a feeling of space due to the huge glass doors and windows which let in lots of light making the space looks even bigger.

We had a flight which came into Hong Kong at 6 in the morning and we were at the hotel by 8 am. Check in usually is much later in the afternoon but we were quickly and efficiently offered a welcome drink followed by speedy check in too, but no rooms.

As there were some exhibitions on in Hong Kong during our visit, the hotel was full up and understandably they could not offer a room. But the Duty Manger was very helpful and asked us if we would like to use the fitness centre changing room for freshening up so that we could have a quick change of clothes and head out for some sightseeing.

We gladly accepted and were quite impressed with the gym and fitness centre located on the 9th Floor. This floor also has a swimming pool which looked real inviting.

The rooms are average in size (not too small according to Hong Kong standards), clean, spotless and well equipped. The beds too are quite comfortable with the right degree of softness with clean, crisp sheets. The housekeeping staff would come to our room at least twice a day to make sure we had clean towels.

There is a mall attached to the hotel with restaurants, food court, spas, and shops. Across the street is a train station that is quite busy and convenient. Although a little away from the bustling Kowloon market area, the hotel provides a decent shuttle service which runs every 10 - 15 minutes to the main Kowloon area and back. This is quite convenient and availed of by most guests.

The breakfast service is very good too. Lots of choice in terms of muffins, eggs to order, baked beans, sausages, main course items, fruit and cheese spread, lots of juices and more...Service at breakfast is quite efficient too and the hotel staff is quite attentive and responsive. Only thing, we wished they smiled a little bit more..

The hotel has some speciality restaurants too. One of them was called Senzuru for Japanese food which we did not try but heard good reviews from a few of the guests me met at the hotel. Plus they have a good Chinese restaurant and a small coffee shop at the lobby level outside the restaurant which serves tea and cookies.

Room service is fast, effective and flawless. We had a couple of opportunites where we needed to order in a few things and were quite impressed with the turnaround time.
The bathrooms are quite nice and have all the toiletries in order which are replaced as per usage every day. The shower pressure is good and the bath towels are soft, fluffy and quite huge!

In terms of entertainment, they do not have the latest LCD or LED televisions but a flat screen television with quite a few channels for entertainment. Frankly, we did not get to use the television quite often. The coffee and tea selection in the room is good too and we ended up asking for more of the same on some occassions.

Check out too is smooth, leaving a good impression of the efficiency and service. If we had an opportunity, we would use the Harbour Plaza Metropolis once again for sure!
