“Best 5-star hotel for value for a larger family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014

Hotels in Hong Kong are expensive and bad, while this was not exactly cheap but it was the only one that was 5-star and would accommodate 4-adults in a room for less than $250. Most others were over $350.00.
Facilities barely 5-star but 5-star nevertheless. Location very good. Subway is a big facility but needs couple of transfers before you can get anywhere, still having a subway under the hotel is very desirable. Next to Mall, which has few nice breakfast places open early, so you can have breakfast there.

Room Tip: Get a room on 8th floor. It has a very nice health club.

We were very impressed with the hotel amenities and staff.
Located next to a shopping mall with a very wide selection of food in the Food Mall and the MTR under the hotel, this hotel is well set up for tourists.
The flower market bird market and ladies market are all easily accessible by foot.
We were on the 11th floor an could hear the rumble of the train but it wasn't a problem and we quickly ignored it.
Lovely swimming pool and spa.

Room Tip: Higher floors will have less train noise.

One of the best advantages of staying in this hotel is there is access to almost every place in the city whether it's the ladies market, mall or theatre. The rooms were comfy and neat.

I was only disappointed by the breakfast as the options were quite less but since the mall was in the same complex we had a lot of options to eat in the food court. Also there was a movie theatre in the mall and we enjoyed the evening watching movies there.

Overall a great stay and good family hotel.

We were three adults sharing a good-sized family room. Our booking didn't come with breakfast (Maybe we should have paid more for it). The room was spacious, toilets were clean with generous amenities.

The room was well-insulated -- quite quiet spared for some distant knocking. The zircon was a bit of cranky. It would blow up really cold but would take a fair bit of stuffiness before the thermostat registers and the cool air would blow again.

They are VERY busy. Plenty of guests coming and going makes for a lot of people in the main lobby. We were fortunate that our checking in and checking out was pleasant and speedy. Maybe because I'd booked and paid in full online. The shuttle bus manager told me that it's common for very long queues during check-out time making people late for their transport pickups.

Because of the huge throng of people in the hotel, they try to sterilise everything, everywhere. The strong chemical smell of disinfectant is everywhere in the lobby and even along our room corridor. I try to hold my breath.

It rained a lot during our four nights there and one night we decided to stay in for dinner. The Lion Rock on the third floor actually served a rather acceptable set meal even if it is a drinking place. The neighbouring chinese restaurant had a very appetising-looking menu too. We should have gone there.

Most of our journeys out of the hotel we took cabs. The walk to the nearest MTR (train) is a little more than 400metres, it seems. We were too tired to bother and it wasn't expensive to cab.

We missed the Flower street right next to the hotel. Pity. The shops were selling very interesting selection of flowers and plants. If you're a plant lover, don't miss this.

I wouldn't stay here again merely because Mongkok is too busy for my preferences but it's a good hotel if you need to be here and if you want to squeeze three adults into a single room.

Room Tip: Our room on the pool level was decent.

The hotel is a little bit concealed as our taxi struggled to find the entrance, however the hotel is based in the grand century place shopping mall & is accessible by the MTR- Mong Kok. There are three restaurants in the hotel complex, Di King Heen serves excellent yum cha & Cantonese food, we found that lion rock yum cha was very ordinary & poor understanding of English ! We had breakfast at la Scala the second morning, very standard and not HK finest !
We were utilising the business suite and found the service was fantastic especially Kiki the club floor officer nothing was to much trouble. The swimming pool area was family orientated & well managed, with plenty of relaxing areas. Would strongly recommend the business suite.

Spent 12 nights at this family friendly hotel recently. Exactly located over Mon Kok East MTR station and over a shopping mall this hotel is a 10 minute walk to Mon Kok shopping area. Staff are very helpful and friendly - congrats to the hotel on this. Hotel provides free shuttle to all main areas of Kowloon. Hotel bar is a bit pricey but the restaurant Di Heen is reasonable and the food is delicious. The room itself was adequate for us (2 adults and 2 children - 2 queen beds) and spotless however space could be more utilised with more storage facilities i.e. not enough drawers and wardrobes. Although we managed living out of suitcases the hotel could easily utilise window bay ledges with drawers underneath. Health facilities/swimming pool are excellent and worth using. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay at the Royal Plaza and would most likely stay again on our next visit to Kowloon.

Room Tip: Try avoid rooms on Floor 8 which is where the pool and health area are - people traffic on corridor.

Our family of 4 (me and the bride plus our 2 boys 14 and 10) stayed 3 nights on our way to Europe for some shopping and to visit a relative. Booked online in advance. Great rate for a family room ($350 aud) including great buffet breakfast which some have said previously was ordinary. I feel the breakfast was everything anyone could ask for. Omelette bar, fruit, cereal, noodles, congee, bacon, sausages eggs………..the lot. and great coffee and juice too.
The room had 2 queen beds large bathroom and all the 5 star amenities. The timber bedside units and desk were a bit worn and dated but the rest of the room was perfect. Had dinner in the buffet restaurant, snow crab special?? I was not impressed with the crab because Im spoilt with the best crab in Australia, but the rest on offer was real good and great choices too.
The reason I have deducted a star from this place was because most if not all of the staff at the front counter are not warm, welcoming or have a social bone in their body. The rest of the staff in the hotel were just great. From housekeeping to the pool guys and the Gym staff to the wait staff in the restaurant. I would recommend this hotel to families and couples alike and would stay here on my next visit.
