We stayed in a Harbour View Suite for three nights this month (room 1345). The amount of space and the actual Harbour view (and the view of the nightly Symphony of Lights show) is most certainly unbeatable for the price.

The suite and its fit-out was in reasonable condition. The shower was over a bath, and the towels were a good size and of reasonable quality. Check-in was efficient (and our room was available early), though we found the Concierge service to be less than friendly (and quite ‘short’) on a couple of occasions.

The pool and other facilities are typically YMCA and are used constantly by outside groups and the general public – don’t expect a hotel-style pool. The location of the hotel is great, with very convenient access to the Star Ferry and the train system.

We ate at both of the onsite restaurants for breakfast. Don’t bother with the continental buffet at the Mall Cafe (ground floor). They also offer an “American” breakfast (a plate of bacon, eggs, beans, etc) which we did not try. The full buffet upstairs at the hotel restaurant provides good options at a reasonable price, but stays pretty much the same each day.

Overall, I certainly would stay here again. In my view, it’s essentially a comfortable 3.5 star hotel that represents very good value for the location.

Room Tip: There are 16 floors. If paying extra for a Harbour view, request a high room for uninterrupted view...

What more can really to said about this hotel that hasn't already been said.

The room was immaculately clean, the water pressure great, the amenities in the room are good. One advantage is that you can also do your own laundry in the super clean laundry rooms if you need this after a long journey.

The staff are efficient.

Breakfast was included in my package and it was a very good standard jbreakfast.

We stayed in a harbour view room at the Salisbury in April 2012. The service, from the internet booking through to concierge and housekeeping, was excellent. The harbour view room was comfortable and adequate, but the major attractions were the handy location and the incredible view of Victoria Harbour towards Wanchai and Central.

Our only gripe was that broadband is not available free of charge. Instead, we had to cross Sallisbury Road to use the free wifi at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Overall, this hotel represents excellent value for money. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms are worth the extra money. A room located away from the elevators is preferable...

We stayed at the Salisbury hotel for 4-nights at the beginning of March on route to New Zealand. We booked a standard room without a harbour view on the internet a number of months in advance of our visit. As other reviewers have commented - do not be put off by the name. The hotel rooms are exactly that - standard hotel rooms - not what we normally associate with a YMCA.

We decided to use the hotel shuttle from the airport (booked via the desk opposite exit B of the airport, to avoid having to lug our luggage around). This worked very well and despite a couple of stops at other hotels along the way, I do not think this was much slower than we would have been had we have taken a taxi (took about 45-minutes).

On arrival we had a speedy check in and a porter assisted by bringing our luggage to the room for us. I had requested a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor and we were allocated room 1481 on the 14th floor. We had booked a standard room which is considerably cheaper than a harbour view and the view is the only difference between rooms (both are exactly the same size - 23m2). As 3-out of 4-of the days we were in Hong Kong were so foggy we could not see the tops of the buildings opposite the hotel, had we have paid extra we would literally not have SEEN the benefit!

We were very pleased with the room, it was a reasonable size with pretty much all things required for a comfortable stay. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a bowl of fresh fruit, electronic safe and some toiletries. There have been other TA comments regarding the in room A/C but we found ours to work well both in heating and cooling the room. The bed was very comfortable with additional pillows and blankets in the wardrobe. My only gripe is that there is a charge to use the internet. I have said it before but in this day and age I do not understand why there is a charge for this facility. The charges can be added to the room bill and time is bought for 4-hours, 1-day, 3-days or 7-days. As we were staying for 4-nights the 7-day charge worked out the most cost effective at 350 HK$’s (about £30). Having said that, a cable is provided for ethernet connection and both the cable and WiFi is of a very good speed in all places around the building.

The main plus is the hotels location, a few minutes walk (using the subway) from the Star ferry terminal, Nathan Road and the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR stop.

We ate breakfast each day at the Mall cafe using discount vouchers we were given on check-in. There was a good choice of both Western and Chinese style food including pastries, fresh fruit and cereals and a hot cooked breakfast will be cooked to order if required. It set us up for the day at between $HK 75-85 each. We also ate there for one lunch and an evening meal on the day of our arrival. The food was good but better value can be had elsewhere, it was very convenient having this option though.

Some of the places we really enjoyed visiting during our stay were the flower market, the Yuen Po Street Bird Garden and the Goldfish market (great for photography). Only make the effort to take the tram The Peak if it is a clear day. If it is foggy or misty it is not worth making the journey. Finally, the best meal we ate was on one of the street restaurants in Temple Street Night Market - very good food, great atmosphere and very cheap with the added bonus of many stalls of local and imported goods.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying extra for the harbour view, you can see this from elsewhere in the hotel or...

In Hong Kong this hotel represents an excellent value especially if you choose an upper level harbour view.
Rooms are not large or fancy or new but are perfectly adequate and clean.
Check in and concierge staff are very good.
There is a decent restaurant although we did not use it this time.
The location is superb in Kowloon, close to Star Ferry Pier, Nathan Road and MTR transportation.
You can take the airport express to Kowloon Station then shuttle bus to Kowloon Hotel then a 2 minute walk.

Room Tip: Room 1135 or those beside have great views to harbour.

This was word of mouth and we were so pleased we stayed here, very central, the underground was right next door. I had a partial harbour view with king size bed and found it very comfortable and clean.

Room Tip: Go for a harbour view room.
