Rooms are average quality. House keeping staff does not speak English, reception staff are careless and rude. Air condition works too powerful. Location is convenient. There is a spa massage place right accross the hotel which is worth visiting and having a foot and body massage.

If I had a choice, this is definitely not my choice. I have better experiences staying in hostels than this place.

Service levels: Limited receptionists? Check. Sulky staff? Check

Hotel Area: Girly bars? Check. Drinking places with call girls nearby? Check.

Hotel rooms: Dark corridors that you wonder if you stepped into a "love" hotel instead of a business hotel? Check. Noisy rooms ie you can hear your neighbors? Check. Traffic sounds from your room? Check. Small rooms that only 1 small body can squeeze in? Check.

In short, It's meant for a certain clientele and certain body sized person.

Wan chai is the prostitute central. So in case you were deciding on the area. But the hotel was close to the metro. Also some decent sports bars around. But come 10pm it does get a bit shady.
The hotel was clean, but rooms small.
English tv channels a benefit.
Floors on the lower levers smell in bathrooms. Avoid

We stayed at the Empire Hotel over the recent rugby Seven's weekend. We knew that it was in a bar/club area and was likely to be noisy. Our room was facing Lockhart Rd and I had to sleep every night with earplugs because of the street noise. We were on the 6th floor.

We appeared to have a cleaning cart permanently stored outside our room door. It looks as though they leave the cleaning carts in the hallways always, as we saw several others permanently left in hallways.

General upkeep of the rooms and hallways was shabby, although the rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were very hard, and only a thin sheet and blanket. i was actually cold some nights.

Breakfast was OK, but nothing great.

Room Tip: try get a high level, maybe the street noise will be better

I stayed at The Empire Hotel Wan Chai for five nights for a business convention. The first thing I noticed was the staff seemed very stiff and unwelcoming when I arrived, not very friendly and disappointing after a 15 hour flight from the States. The second issue are the rooms, they are really small, basically a bed and a bathrooom, not much space. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean, but too tight. The location is great, right in the middle of Wan Chai. The gym is decent, but the equipment is out of a date. The breakfast buffet is not that great, its pretty basic. Overall, this really feels like a 3 star hotel. If you are more interested in location, this is a perfect place. But, if you are looking for a hotel with comfort and service, I wouldn't recommend.

Located in the heart of Wan Chai, you can't go wrong with the geographical functionality of this hotel. Close to the convention center, the performing arts center and all of downtown Hong Kong Island, you shouldn't overlook this hotel if for those reasons alone. The room I stayed in was quite small and could have used some serious sprucing up (some nicks and dings on things, and there was a lack of hangars in the closet), but the staff is pleasant and the lobby is quite large for such a central hotel. I never made it to their pool area, but the breakfasts in the morning are sensational: an excellent choice between Western and traditional Chinese offerings. Delish. The wait for the elevators can be a bit of a pain when you get the loads of international tourists pouring in, and on several occasions, I felt like the WiFi was SERIOUSLY compromised by hackers. I'm not being paranoid: on three occasions, the cursor on my computer had a life of its own, and (literally) someone was virtually clicking on my screen -- creepy and unsafe -- but I can't tell if this is a hotel problem or an external one. HK is a very dense city, and this hotel can feel (most of the time) like a bit of a reprieve.

I recently stayed here for 8 days, had a very good experience staying here. Very convenient location for people visiting the jewellery show as the venue HKCEC is hardly 5 mins walk from here. Good Bars, Metro, 7Eleven all in a radius of 0.5 Kms.
