“Convenient designer hotel without service to match”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

This is a great option for travelers looking for a serviced apartment in a convenient location in Sheung Wan. The space is efficiently designed and comfortable. Rooms are bright and includes a small kitchenette with an induction stove, toaster, microwave, fridge and hot water pot. Bottled water, cups/bowls/plates, two pots, cutlery and utensils are provided as well. While the refrigerator is small, the freezer area was wide and deep enough to place produce in.

I needed to be in the room for most of the trip so I knew I wanted to stay in a quiet, bright, one bedroom space, with a kitchenette, that would not feel claustrophobic with two people. Thankfully it was a good decision. Also, I needed a space to be able to lounge, and the chaise style couch to watch TV in the living room, was perfect for this purpose. The design of the hotel is great as there is a nook for the kitchenette, and a living and dining area that is separated by a sliding door to the bedroom. This provides for a feeling of privacy between the two areas. Ample closet space and marbled bathrooms offer a good feel. Two A/c controls - one in the bedroom and in the living area is convenient as well. Bedding is comfortable and I slept well all of my nights there. There is a bit of noise outside on the weekend nights but this was not too bad even though I was on a lower floor.

You will need to tell the front desk when you want your room cleaned. After my first night, the room was not cleaned until 5pm. This was quickly rectified after I told them my request to clean the room earlier in the day. Bed linens and towels are changed once a week. Loccitane toiletries were nothing to write home about. Amenities include toothbrush/toothpaste/nail file/hair tie, cotton balls and a shower cap all in a small pack. Housekeeping may come on the weekend, and may not. No one seemed to know the schedule for housekeeping on the weekend.

Things to keep in mind-- the service at this hotel is a bit dismal. No one smiled when I checked in, and the front desk appearance seemed like this was the biggest chore to them to check me in. No one even assisted me with my luggage. I suspect they are poorly trained. Being a Hong Kong native, I didn't really need their assistance for getting around and sites, so I'm not sure how they are in directing tourists around the city. I considered giving the hotel a lower rating based on service alone, but I didn't depend on them enough for it to make a difference.

Garbage cans in the kitchen are too tiny to use, and the furniture, while nice, doesn't look cheap, but doesn't look/feel expensive either.

The location is great-- so many great places for coffee on Jervois street (three places), organic cafes, an italian deli, fresh juice place on queen's road and a delicious french rotisserie chicken place on hillier street. There's also a welcome supermarket down the street, the wet market down the block and a creperie too. Avoid all the Vietnamnese restaurants in the area. Went to West Villa a block away for dim sum and loved the old school canto restaurant feel. I loved the neighborhood because of the character. Its definitely not for everyone as you will pass by some super local stores and areas, but for me, its a nice change. Central is walking distance as is IFC. The tram and MTR are so conveniently near by and taxis are also easy to hail down.

The airport express bus H1 stops right in front of the hotel, so if you don't have too much luggage you can take the bus from the central airport express station to the hotel.

I will stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor. to get a view, but all rooms are very bright.

This Christian Liaigre designed hotel is in an excellent location situated in Sheung Wan close to the MTR and to Central and Hollywood Road with some great restaurants within walking distance and scattered throughout Sheng Wan.

The aesthetics of room and were great to soak up during our down time and the attention to detail and composition of design is well thought through with the layout of the room enabling compartmentalisation of the bedroom and living areas which was fantastic given we had a one year old that needed to have nap time.

It’s more like a high end apartment that a hotel, room and would highly recommend it to others, staff were great also.

Stayed at this Christian Liagre designed hotel for one night on a business trip with my husband. Was excited to stay at the hotel and slightly nervous that it was written up as a serviced apartment - how would that work for just one evening?..but thought I'd give it a go.
From the moment we entered we knew we were in a special place. Very private, beautifully designed and casual but helpful staff helped to check us in. Yes you have to sign a rental agreement which is a bit strange but I think its just to make sure that some people don't steal all the cool amenities.......The rooms are so neat. Each accessible by your own private elevator. Sorry I've stayed in a lot of cool places but this was rather fun! And the interior was very well thought out. Not a square inch was unaccounted for. The marble in the bathroom, use of a calming and simple color palette and easy access to Central by foot made this place a standout. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Upper floors have fantastic views.

You like your place for you own and no hazzle in the lobby or waiting in the queue - take a suite in the jervois hotel - small boutique hotel in the middle of hong Kong Island - Chinatown. That is the choice if you want to travel in style and have a good time in Hong Kong.
All places are reachable quick and easy - you can walk to Soho or go shopping by Foot. The Place is great - wooden floors, fantastic views, stylish kitchen and comfortable bed. Form the bed you have a fantastic view through the windows. The staff is helpfull and you can go to the gym next door for free.

Room Tip: 28 A - view to the peak

Great choice in HK. Relatively spacious rooms, refined interior and sophisticated ambience and great location to venture out in the city. The only thing to bear in mind is that it is not a fully fledged hotel, but rather an hybrid between a hotel and serviced apartments. Nonetheless, we did not regret it for a moment (including the price - great value for money compared with other luxurious places in HK).

We found the staff to be polite and helpful at the Jervois. It is a smart, new and cleverly designed compact apartment is in a tall, narrow building, so there are only 2 apartments to each floor. There is a bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom, living room, couch and large TV (not that you will get much time to watch it as there are too many interesting things to do and see). Good closet space. No noise from neighbours at all and although in a busy vibrant area the room was very quiet. There are great views from the higher rooms (we were on 23rd floor). As other reviewers have pointed out Central Station is nearby, convenient for the Airport train. It was initially a bit of a walk from Central to the apartment towing our small suitcases but manageable for a couple of fit sixty-somethings and well worth the effort. Otherwise a short taxi ride is in order. The underground train system is excellent but be warned, you sometimes have to walk large distances to reach the platforms. It is a short walk to the Harbour through interesting winding streets in which it is easy to get lost (but that is half of the fun). Plenty of eateries around, best to choose one that has a lot of customers already as the locals know best:-)
We highly recommend this apartment hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Higher up for good views

I stayed at The Jervois in March 2013 for four nights. In my previous visits to Hong Kong I had always stayed in Kowloon and this time spent 4 nights on Hong Kong Island and then 3 nights on Kowloon.
Researched the internet for a serviced apartment so I could have a little more room than a normal hotel room and discovered The Jervois. It is situated in Sheung Wan close to the MTR and to Central and Hollywood Road.
The room was well designed with the bedroom being separate to a small lounge/dining area and a separate small galley kitchen in an alcove. I really enjoyed my stay at The Jervois and thought it was value for money would recommend it to others.
