The Tian Tan buddha is a must. The cable car ride to the top has amazing views particularly of the Hongkong international airport. At the top there is plenty to see and do before you climb the stairs to the Big Buddha. Take the MTR to Tung Chung station the orange line, The cable car is very close. The cable car takes 25 minutes to make the trip to the big Buddha, buses and taxis are also available but not as good I'm sure. Have fun, its awesome

Visiting the Tian Tan Buddha was a great experience - a memory I’ll cherish for years to come. The Buddha was beautifully crafted and massive, at that. From the gondola, I could see the sight of the huge sculpture. If you have time in Hong Kong and want to see something iconic, and beautiful, then you have to see the Tian Tan Buddha. I would go as far as compare the Buddha to the Jesus in Rio de Janeiro, that’s how majestic it is.

We paid for a guided tour on this one which included a visit to a fishing village and a boat ride out to try and see pink dolphins but you also get to see the Macua Bridge which is huge and at the centre goes under the sea into a tunnel and then up again into a bridge. (to allow ships to pass through)

The fishing village is also very interesting but when you reach The Buddha it is amazing! A few shops there and places to eat- our tour included a vegetarian lunch which was OK but not great.

Seeing the Buddah is well worth while. Unfortunately while we were there the Cable Car was not running but my wife was quite relieved when we saw how high it was!

The trip up in the cable car to the Big Buddha was the best bit. The views are fantastic. It was HKD210 for a standard return ticket, but you can pay more for a glass bottomed carriage. I think it's worth paying the extra, we paid the standard rate but had very long queues to get up and even longer wait to get back. There is good free wifi at both ends as well.

I live in Hong Kong very near the big Buddha and can actually hike there. But I do ALWAYS take any visitors there. It can get very hot and busy so I would recommend going as early in the morning as possible.

Despite the amount of people and the commercialised stores, it still holds that tranquil serenity and peacefulness. Take time to visit the monastery and walk to the wisdom trail. The monastery also provides great vegan food!

TOP TIP: buy tickets for the cable car online the day befor to avoid queues!
