What a fantastic place to stay. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. The complimentary breakfasts were tasty and filling. Service was top notch. We were a short walk from the subway in an area that has a ton of great food options and a park n shop grocery nearby.

Compared to other places we looked at, this place was a steal. We will DEFINITELY be staying here next time we're in town.

I was impressed by the security and cleanliness. The restaurant is unique and the decor interesting. There is a neat little gift shop too. The services are convenient for backpackers (laundry, wifi for purchase, breakfast included). Quite costly for a private room, but I think all of Hong Kong is this way.

3 nights stay in a double room during end of Mar 2014, much more than a hostel, more like a comfortable no-frills hotel. Luxurious room size, comfortable, very clean and good sleep quality. We love the location of the hostel, lots of local food, local culture, wholesale toys, clothing, electronics etc… A unique cafe on L1 with Good breakfast. More importantly, very friendly Hostel staff.

Positives: (a) Good location (5 min walk from Sham Shui Po MTR/Subway) + large and clean rooms. (b) Recently renovated. (c) Includes breakfast.

Negatives: (a) Staff will not show you dorm room; pay for room first and then see (b) wifi is HK $25 per day (c) Dorm room has lockers but locks are unconventional and weird. Buy lock on your own and it may or may not fit (d) No towels provided. Hostel will "rent" you towel for HK$10 (e) English to american electrical outlet converter required. Hostel will sell you converter for HK $20 (f) shower drain slow in dorm room

So be prepared to be nickeled and dimed. Then again large room for Hong Kong

Hi it's Damian here,

Thank you for your review of our hostel, we value your feedback. As we are a hostel rather than hotel, in order to help keep our room rates low, we don't provide towels in our dorm rooms, however in the private rooms towels are provided. With regards to the internet, we are now currently working on making some free wifi zones in the hostel as part of improvement and we hope to have this ready soon. For the maintenance problems with locker, I will ask our engineering department to investigate this for us.

Thank you for providing us your feedback and giving us the opportunity to improve.

We hope to welcome you back to stay with us next time you visit Hong Kong

Pros:
1. Within 5 minutes walk from Sham Shui Po Station. Therefore, you can find good dessert shops and food within walking distance.
2. The room is huge compared to HK standard, especially with this price. Big bathroom too.
3. Quiet, comfy bed
4. Free breakfast from internal HK style café shop
5. The room is clean and they even have hairdryer

Cons (to some):
1. No dental kit available. But due to its location, easy to get one from any convenience store
2. Towel change at every 3rd day
3. Upon check-out, you need to bring down the pillow case, duvet, and bedsheet cover, dump them in a big container for cleaning.

As there's no problem for the Cons for me, this YHA will become my 'home' when i'm in HK.

Excellent facility. Well appointed room and bath (We took a double room). Efficient, enthusiastic staff and team.Great atmosphere at the 'fullcupcafe' for breakfast or day dining. Very close to the MTR Sham Shui Po Station Exit D2. Just walk out in the exact same direction you exit, up the road for about 300 metres, past two cross-streets...up a slight incline... and you come to a cross-roads junction to your left. Diagonally across, on your left, is MHH, clearly visible. Very easy to get to, via MTR.

Room Tip: Any room would be terrific, frankly. But for details, ours faced East, which had a small Public work...

After a rocky start to our HK trip, where we were unable to stay at our pre-booked airbnb accommodation, the staff at YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel were very accommodating and we were able to stay here for the entire 2 weeks of our holiday.

The hostel building itself is one of the oldest housing estates in Hong Kong and has recently been renovated into a brand new Youth Hostel. What used to be one apartment is now one hostel room. There are two types of rooms to choose from - themed rooms styled like a hostel room from the 70's and the standard rooms. As a family of four adults, we stayed in two standard rooms - one King room and one Twin(2 single beds) room. Each room was clean and spacious and beds were comfortable. The rooms were more the size of a large hotel room with a lounge area including two lounge chairs, side table, dresser, tv cabinet, which was ample space for 2 people. The ensuite bathroom had a spacious shower with sliding glass doors and hand wash and bath wash is included. Other amenities are also included including towels, kettle, tv, in-room safe and hair dryer. The only thing about the room was the hot water was temperamental, it would sometimes flow smoothly while at times there was jumps between cold and hot water.

Breakfast at the cafe downstairs was included. The cafe has been designed like a retro Hong Kong cafe with three breakfast sets(Western, Chinese, Hong Kong style) to choose from for hostelers. Other than that there is also a museum on the ground floor showcasing the history of the area as well as communal amenities such as the kitchen, Chinese snooker table and coin-operated washing machines and dryers.

Being located in Sham Shui Po, it is only a 7 min walk to the Sham Shui Po MTR and less than 5 min to the nearest Park N Shop supermarket. It is also less than a 5 minute walk to the local markets located on Pei Ho and Fuk Wing Streets.

All in all, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel was beyond our expectations. It was more like staying at a hotel but at hostel prices. Kenneth, Polly and the rest of the front of house staff were friendly and accommodating to all our needs. We will surely come back to stay again.
