We recently stayed two nights at HK Disneyland Hotel, paid extra fee for birthday theme decoration inside the room and it was lovely. There was a big birthday card, big balloons, and a goody bag with a Mickey Mouse and towel etc. The hotel uses H2O products in the bathroom which is a fairly well-known brand in HK. There was also a balcony in our room and we managed to see some fireworks at night. All the room amenities offered were really good except the pillows, which were too soft which gave us a sore neck the next day. Excellent service from all the staff - everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, valet parking and Playroom was very friendly and helpful. The Storybook Playroom has a small theatre and free hourly activities to keep the kids busy. We also had dinner at Enchanted Garden Restaurant where Mickey Mouse and Goofy came in to take pictures with us; the food was suprisingly good and the atmosphere was warm and pleasant.
However I did have two major issues with this hotel. Firstly, the sound proof of the room was quite poor - the noise from guests walking / talking in the corridor was clearly audible. My kids were awaken several times because people were banging their door shut, or kids screaming while they ran in the corridor. With the price we paid for this hotel, we would expect a better quality of sleep! Secondly, we had really bad experience at the pool. For two nights consecutively we took the kids swimming. The pool water was quite murky. We kept seeing guests soaking their bare feet into the pool - while they were wearing day clothes on top, or some wearing shoes / sandals who kept dipping their feet at the side of the pool. There were even boys that look like more than 10 years old trying to jump in the pool with their underpants on. There was one staff on duty and she often stopped people from doing the above, but it's just not sufficient; as soon as she turned away the guests would go back and bathing their feet in the pool. It was just horrible to think that we were literally swimming in a big feet-washing bathtub. I seriously think that the hotel should just forbid people to enter the pool if they are not wearing proper swimsuits, or add extra staff to eduacate the guests on-site. It was a big shame, as otherwise the hotel should really deserve 5 stars rating.
