“Great hotels for families!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2007

Hollywood Hotel is a great place to stay in when you intend to visit Disneyland in HK. We especially liked the current promo they had (you get to enter the theme park for two days straight when you are a guest at the hotel). As I was with two elderly parents and a baby, we appreciated being able to relax for half a day in the hotel before venturing to the park and then continuing for yet another day the next day. While Disneyland is much much smaller than the other Disneylands we've been to (Orlando and LA), the heat was too much for us and it was good to be able to go back to the hotel when we saw fit. From the time when I called to make a reservation (talked to somebody named Kevin who even called me up long distance when we got disconnected!) to the time when we had a lovely breakfast at Chef Mickey, it was an overall great experience. True, the hotel is a bit expensive and not what I expected (Disney hotels in the USA seem bigger and better) but it still had the Disney charm. From Mickey Mouse ballpens to Mickey slippers, they had adequate Disney touches. The service was good. They gave us connecting rooms as we had requested and also provided a Mickey-themed crib for my baby (complementary of course). The beds were huge and comfortable -- maybe a little bit on the hard side but I think most HK hotels are like that. Plus, they allowed four people in one room (so that's a big help if you're three or four people staying in one room like us). Most HK hotels charge you a triple rate or quadruple rate if you're 3 or 4 adults staying in one room. The only complaint I had was that the room size is small considering the beds were big. We can hardly open our luggages. Ended up opening them on our beds. True, other guests might be a bit noisy but that can be true elsewhere in HK also. Just a tip, if you're three or more people, it's better to take a cab from the city and go there (probably around HK$250 with a $5 fee per luggage in the trunk). And then take another cab from the Disney hotel to the airport (since it's just a 15 minute ride to the airport). Good experience overall and wouldn't mind staying there again.

Booked online direct with Hotel. July 2007. 2 nites before going to Kowloon part of our holiday.
Found the hotel a very classy establishment. The hotel is almost brand new and is very modern but has a Art Deco theme throughout - very well done.
The service at the front counter was very acceptable and we were at the room in good time. We got an upgrade in our accomodation for free and got a top floor seaview room.
Found the food at the Chef Mickey very nice especially the breakfast which we PRE BOOKED to get a 30% discount.
Had dinner at the poolside restaurant / bar which was ok with reasonalbe prices - not cheap not dear etc. Kids menu was good value.
Spent 1 day at Disneyland which was actually enough. Could have made it 2 days but kids had really done most of the rides.
Mainly aimed at the younger kids but some rides were for all ages. the 4D theatre was excellent - really fun.
Decided to spend the 2nd day catching the train and bus to the big budda as it is on Lantau Island as well, ( the excellent cable car was broken so we had to take disney bus to disneyland then get the disney train to Sunny Bay then change to another train to a station near the airport then caught a bus to big budda 45 minutes ride)
Pool was real nice with lovely huge slippery dip in a mountain thingo. Water so warm. Also not too deep for kids and had 2 lifeguards and nice piped music and pool bar hidden out of sight nicely with pool service. Also had nice spa.

Big Budda was great, very good views at the mountain top all round.
Returned at end of day to pick up luggage from storage and then taxi to kowloon. ( 180 HK )
Found going from airport to Hollywood Hotel then Disneyland was great.
Taxi prices - at hollywood hotel you can get a brochure which tells you the approx prices for trips in hong kong. Generally the taxis are very very good and very cheap. Watch the airport though as some taxi drivers approached us and offered to take us to Hollwood Hotel for 550 HK dollars. We ignored person and went to the BLUE taxi area and got a lantau island taxi to hotel for only 110 HK dollars which was great, ie about 18 dollars AU/NZ/US
Make sure you say by the meter.
PS taxis around kowloon are usually about 20 to 40 hk dollars ie from star ferry to mong konk is 35 hk.
We used the octopus card a lot for the MTR - very good system but need to keep your wits about you to make sure to plan where to go and make sure when u get off to take correct subway exits etc. MTR can get real busy in rush hour ie about 6-7pm it seems.
Buses good 2 get from Admilarty station to both Ocean Park and to Stanley markets - very cheep transport and buses have several tv screens showing cartoons and ads etc. Take the No 6 bus to Stanley and 629 to Ocean park.

What an amazing hotel. My husband, me and my two children 15 and 12 stayed for 2 nights in March. We absolutely loved it. The foyer was beautiful with statues of Mickey Mouse, check in was easy and staff very friendly. Rooms were clean and sprinkled with disney touches like the shower curtain, tolieties, pictures on walls etc. Rooms were perhaps a bit small with not a lot of room to move, but this didn't bother us at all. The outdoor pool and spa were great, my kids loved the water slide. The breakfast buffet was very nice, even the waffles were shaped of Mickey. The evening food was a bit expensive but if you eat in the park it is a lot cheaper. There was a free bus every 15 minutes to and from the park and we never had to wait for more than 5 minutes. It is a little out of Kowloon so really suited if you want the whole Disney experience. We loved Disneyland Hong Kong and would absolutely have no hesitation in staying here again.

My brother and I stayed here for the last night of our 4D/3N tour...our experience was awesome! from reception we were given an upgrade to a seaview room...we stayed at the 9th floor...the hotel staffs were all so friendly...check in was no hassle and check out you just have to go down your room at 11am nothing more to ask or do unless you avail of the internet connection etc, then you just leave your stuffs and go back to the park for another fun day...

Although the rooms and their bathrooms were very small, our stay in this hotel was memorable. The theming was great. Lifts, bedrooms, stationery and toilet amneties all had the mickey mouse symbol. Even breakfast waffles. It was fun. The hotel also had a nice swimming pool and a jackuzzi.

Stayed at Disney Hotel with family. Place was 100% full, and the hotel did not have the resources for so many bookings. Several hours in line to check in, no porters for bags, rooms are small and noisy, no room service or any extras.
Kids loved the setup, and surroundings however as adults paying A$300 per night, would not recommend more than one night experience

Upon returning to HK this time I took time to take the family to Disneyland. We stayed two nights at the Hollywood.
I had read all the reviews and quite frankly the bad ones didn’t deter me. It’s a given that theme park hotels world wide have some basic problems. These include the sheer volume of guests from various diverse locations from around the globe and a price point on most items you would never pay in the real world. You mix this with the fact that typically the facilities large, rooms are small and the staffs not the main attraction and you have a fairly soulless environment. I had no expectations; I went for the little one and for the theme park.

The hotel, visually, is very memorable and finished in a “complete” manner. As mentioned in previous reviews, even the toiletries are packed and presented in a Disney style. Little robes and slippers for the kids and large ones for the adults.

The main external feature to the bay side of the hotel is a pool facility with a slide and designed in a manner so that the depth is conducive to the little ones.
The pool was a welcome break in the evenings, complete with very observant and ever present life guards.

Some practical facts to know; There is no room service and all food comes from one kitchen, so the various themed “restaurants” do share common food items. A can (glass) (330-360ml) of beer will cost $60-65HKD. Put that in context, if you are new to HK / China, that same beer in HK will cost you approximately $4-8HKD depending on the source. Food and drink brands are also very limited. (Think about bringing stuff in for your stay) The rooms are no more or less noisy than other hotels I have stayed in. (maybe it’s the type of patrons and the long corridors?) The room size is typical (yes small) but typical. Shuttle buses to and from the park are clean and efficient at all hours.
Ultimately, I enjoyed the stay, it’s not an environment I personally liked but my kids loved it. The hotel, in all facets functions well and 2 nights was the maximum required for our needs. Staff were friendly and polite.
If you want greater food and accommodation choice and better prices stay in HK and take the MTR (25min from the island) in and out each day.

  • Liked — The comprehensive scene & feel complete with big smiles from the little ones
  • Disliked — Arrogant self centred tourists aplenty
