Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Causeway Bay
Ranked #145 of 730 Hotels in Hong Kong
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Booked two rooms, one single bed and one double bed with breakfast last February 2014.

From the airport you can take the Hong Kong Express and get off in Hong Kong Island. From there you have to take the MTR and get off in Causeway Bay. From the train to the hotel is around a seven minute walk.

Location of the hotel was great. It's located beside Time Square and a five minute walk to the other department and convenience stores.

We arrived in the hotel at around 12:20 pm. By 12:30 pm we were already in our rooms.

The rooms were clean and decent. It had a vault, sofa bed, LED TV, mini refrigerator (with nothing inside) located inside the closet. The rooms also had a work station. Sleep quality was ok.

Bathroom was clean and had the basic stuff like toothbrush and shower caps. If you need a comb or shaving kit you just need to ask housekeeping.

The soaps though came from a dispenser. I prefer that it came in bars.

Breakfast was served in a la carte sets. A and B continental. C to D Chinese. These sets come with one glass of orange juice and unlimited coffee. Serving was small and if you want additional food lets say sausages you need to pay 20 HKD.

Servers need an additional training on finesse. They are always in a rush like they are late for a meeting or something. They just abruptly put your food down and collects it the minute you finish it.

I hope that the hotel upgrades their breakfast into a buffet. I like my daily dose of crispy bacon and sausages. I am sure a lot of the guest will agree to this and this will definitely improve the rating of the hotel.

As my brothers and I agreed on, our stay would have been better if there was a buffet.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay in Holiday Inn Express.

Location is perfect. Just across Times Square, walking distance to Sogo, Forever 21, and many major shopping malls, boutiques and restaurants. For a budget hotel I guess it's ok. Rooms are tiny. We got a triple sharing room, we could barely move with the furnitures and suitcases especially when the sofa bed is pulled out. Surprisingly the sofa bed (futon style) was comfortable. Pillows were also comfortable. The sofa bed was worn out and tired looking. Bathroom was clean. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was a set menu and good. I think I will try and check out other hotels in the area for my next trip.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a pull out sofa bed instead of a futon style one. The latter is spread on the flo...

Dear Valuable Guest,

Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Causeway Bay for your recent trip to Hong Kong, meanwhile, your comments about our hotel has been duly noted.

We are so glad to have learnt that you are pleased with our great location, which is in the hub of Causeway Bay area and our easy access to the MTR subway system, shopping malls, boutiques and restaurants. As far as the hardware design is concerned, “No More No Less” is the core concept of Holiday Inn Express brand hotels, whereby all guests will enjoy a complimentary Continental breakfast and free use of the internet via Wifi throughout their entire stay.

In general, the size of a guest room in most of 3-star hotels in Hong Kong are around 180 - 200 square feet, whilst the size of our room is ranging from 220 - 250 square feet, which is comparably spacious especially in a prime area, such as the Causeway Bay. We regret that this was not your impression.

We look forward to welcoming you back and stay with us again soon.

Kind regards,

I chose this hotel for our 4 day vaccation at HK. the priimary reason for choosing this hotel was its location and I would say I was not disappointed at all. What disappointed me was the size of the room which is significantly small. It didnt bother us much as we were out of the hotel for most part of the stay but still for the money we paid we expected more. Or I would rather believe that the money I paid was for the location. Don't expect any posh interiors from this hotel, the lobby looks more like a busy crossway. Staff at the reception are helpful but need some help with the english.
I would say do a bit more search if you can befor making this as your final choice.

Location - excellent! the main reason for staying at this hotel. near shopping malls. near eateries - check out Tang Lung Street (a little offbeat but saw locals queuing at a noodle shop), cross Canal Road Flyover to Wanchai and had a nice walk around Bowrington Road market (it was very cooling and nice walking along in Dec2013), chanced upon Chung Kee dessert at Canal Road West with many locals inside, also chanced upon Dim Dim Sum.

Room - bigger than I expected. Not much of a view but clean and quiet. Basic necessities available (cups, spoons, kettle, coffee/teabags, hair dryer). TV had various cable program.

Service - had to wait 15 minutes for check in but friendly and professional staff. managed to help us get a cab when we needed to leave for the airport.

Breakfast - fuss free daily sets available.

Value - very average rating as dec prices were on the higher side.

Anyway - we decided to spend 7 nights in Hong Kong after a last minute change of plans courtesy of political unrest in Bangkok. Booked two rooms at Holiday Inn Causeway Bay. Located right next door to Times Square and Causeway Bay MTR, you really can't ask for a better location!

Check-in staff were courtesy and efficient. Stayed on upper floors. Room size was very good. Enough room to move around. Bathroom was a very good size. Beds were very comfortable and shower was very good.

Breakfast was included each day - I'm a bit puzzled by the negative comments some people have made about the hotel - especially the breakfast. This is a Holiday Inn Express, not The Peninsula! Restaurant where breakfast was served is a large sized dining area. Staff were very efficient with service. There are about 4 western set breakfast option, one local, one chinese and one vegetarian. Western option we had was scrambled eggs, croissant, ham, orange juice and coffee. Basic breakfast, but filling and tasted good. If you're looking for a better western style coffee (eg. latte, flat white, americano etc) two very short blocks away is the Coffee Academics.

Rooms were serviced every day. Free internet/VOIP service and computers in business centre on same floor as reception. Complimentary wifi available in rooms if you're an IHG member (which is free!) and was of a very good speed and reliability.

For 7 nights, I have to say this was a great hotel that exceeded our expectations. Great value for money! If I was to suggest an addition in a future refurbishment, I'd say put in a gym - but I guess that would increase costs!

Will definitely consider staying again on future visits.

Room Tip: Upper floors at end of corridors avoids the lift area. If you're a non-smoker, make sure you ask...

I thought the room quite small but was informed it was considered a good size by Hong Kong standards. It is well located and as others have noted a bit hard to find, particularly as it was my first time to HK. I gained the impression of it being a very well run establishment with an emphasis on efficency. The room was spotless. Breakfast was included and consisted of a 5 choice set menu with Western and Asian choices. If you are going to be out and about in HK and only need a room for a good nights sleep then this hotel should suit.
